This was a bit of a disappointment. It started with a promising scenario that set it up well but sort of limped off into nothing. The dialogue was tortuous - the characters spent so much time avoiding discussing what was happening - and the style of the narrative was very ponderous. It could have been really sharp and original. I have read Daisy Miller, which I liked a little better, but I think James' style will always put me off.
I didn't much care for this. I agree with Pamela on all her points. This just didn't go anywhere. I've read quite a bit by James, most of it required college reading. This is the worst.

Things to consider:
1. Did you like the book?
2. Did you like or dislike the main characters?
3. Do the characters develop?
4. What did you think of the plot and the ending of the story?
5. Do you have any particular favourite quotes or scenes?
6. Would you read anything else by this author?
