I am trying to find a book for a friend. This is what he remembers about it. A man has an affair, his wife and him are going on vacation to try to save their marriage. He visits his mistress to break it off with her, misses his flight. His family dies in the plane crash. He marries his mistress and becomes a millionaire. At the end he finds a note in a vent that says "You don't deserve this." The cover was light blue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know who moved this to Abandoned, but the last paragraph of the book (relating a dream the MC is having) finishes with:

He lies down on the bed and looks up at the ceiling. Someone has nailed a piece of wood to the beam over his head, perhaps the same person who has carved, "This is more than you deserve."
