YES! I cannot get over how everyone is twisting this to make Stacey out to be the bad guy. I mean, I get that sometimes people accuse without anything actually happening, but the whole town automatically assumes that because Stacey is from the wrong side of the tracks and Dooney is a popular, rich, basketball player, that she's obviously trying to ruin his future. No way, that is not the way to look at this. Even if she did make it all up, then she need help, not threats.

Exactly! That is not how you treat people! It still angers me the way Stacey is treated in this book by the others of the town. Like you said, just because she is seen as the rotten apple, doesn't mean that she lies about everything. Even the police takes what she says serious, that should say something as well.

I hate the mindset that dehumanizes people. The folks in town don't have a problem with all the things they're saying about Stacey because they no longer see her as a person. She's just this thing. It makes me very sad. I see it in real life too and it always breaks my heart.

I totally agree with you guys.
I can not believe what people were saying, and tweeting. I was discussed and angry.
I couldn't believe how Dooney acted when the police showed up at school!
I had to take a break from reading it after chapter 15 because I was so angry.
