My library has the In Death books on overdrive. The search is super wonky (for my library) and only pulls up the most recent by author name. But search by title and they come up, even if in an omnibus edition which it didn't used to do. (Overdrive recently had an update.)
And one reason your library may not have them in ebook/audio format for download is ebooks/audio downloads are more expensive than traditional books for libraries to buy a license to use. That license can run out after X number of checkouts (depends on the publishing house if there's a limited number of checkouts).

Scribd has the audios available.
If your library doesn't carry something you can usually request it. Our library fills a good number of my requests (which are considerable).
Overdrive no longer carries the audios - which is why the libraries can't get them on Overdrive anymore. some contract thing. My library had them on Overdrive before about a year ago.

It just strikes me as odd, as popular as the IN DEATH SERIES is, you would think that Overdrive, Hoopla, Axis 360, and many of the new audiobook download sites would have for down. But as usual, it probably has to do with money and publishers probably ask way too much money for the download sites to carry the books. eBook or audio.
In all honesty, I find that Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb books are not on many of the download sites. eBook or audiobook.
Mara, I remember reading some time ago that all of the audiobooks had been pulled from digital library systems by the publisher. You'll also recall that Nora has changed publishers.
Overdrive carries all of the eBooks. Each individual library system decides what books they will make available. My two libraries are my resource for the eBooks. You may want to check with your librarian (send an email) for clarity. I've done that before on other issues.

Yep - Scribd is a subscription service that is true. Still cheaper than buying the audios.
Overdrive no longer carries the audios as I mentioned - due to contracts with publishers that had changed. However, they do carry the ebooks, and hoopla I believe carries at least some of the audiobooks. Library, by library determines which items they actually have patrons get access to - they don't automatically get everything. So, request from your library audio versions of the in death books and see if they can get some of them at least.
EDIT: Oneclick has some of them. I don't know about Axis and others.

As popular as Nora Roberts, I just find it odd that her publishers aren't more accommodating.
These are the same publishers who refused to allow libraries to carry new releases after December 2011. Took them over a year to end that nonsense.

Yeah, right now they're gaming the system by limiting the digital sales and inflating print so they can say demand for digital is fading. You'd think they'd learn after the price fixing debacle.

I don't know where to post this but I just found out the name of the book being released in Sept. It's Secrets in Death being released on Sept 5, 2017.
Someone posted the info earlier and we added it to the book list. Thanks, though! We'd rather know than not.

Thank you. Now I know where to look. Excited to always hear about a new J.D. Robb book!!!

I love audiobooks because I can listen to them while I do other things.

Ebooks are all about instant gratification - I don't have to go to the library, I can download it at 2:00 in the morning, and when the lending period is over they just go right back and I don't get the mega fines i do with real books lol
90% of my reading is done with audio though - I don't have time for sitting down and reading real OR ebooks...

Roberta, that happened long before she changed publishers. And, the old publisher probably has retained the rights to those audiobooks (that's my speculation, don't know that it's a fact).

Contracts with publishers are complicated things. Either Nora or her last publisher contracted with Brilliance and those rights regarding library availability would have been part of the terms. We have no idea who placed the restrictions though my money is on Penguin based on past history.
My point above was to make certain the new publisher isn't blamed for this as it preceded their contract.

When Nora started writing no audiobooks were just catching on, and downloading sites, Ebooks, or iPhone /iPod were just a thought in someone's mind.
No one foresaw how popular electronic publishing and digital downloading 20 or so years after Nora started writing.

I'm curious to see if I think as highly of the series after experiencing Jacqueline Carey's Namah series or Robin Hobb (who is now my fave author - greatly surpassing Harry P in fantasy).

They recently discontinued using Overdrive rentals for the Audible discounts.

To be honest, I don't think that many books by Nora are available for download on Overdrive, Axis 360, or Hoopla.
Amazon or other download pay services seem to think that everyone has money to throw around when it comes to Nora's or J. D.'s book.
Mara, to clarify....all of Nora's books seem to be available on Overdrive in eBook format. It's only the audiobooks that are not.

Everyone is frustrated by the absence of In Death available in audio from the libraries, but as far as the digital ebooks are concerned, I guess it depends on the library in question, as I believe Jonetta stated above. I belong to 6 public libraries, and JD Robb's In Death Series are available at all of them, although only 3 have ALL her books, except for the unreleased books which I have on hold for when they *are* released. All of the In Death Series are available to me. The Brooklyn Public Library, which costs $50/year for non NY residents, has 53 In Death digital books available (NO audio). The Fairfax County Public Library which costs $25/year for non VA residents, has 46 In Death digital book titles available, also NO audio. Honestly, if you love this series, maybe consider paying the $25 for Fairfax County and read all you want! Hope this helps you. It's not a bad workaround.

Amazon has no say in what audiobooks are available through Overdrive. The publisher has the rights and is the one to decide whether or not a library can purchase the audiobook for their patrons. I don't think the author has a say either.

It's unclear to me -- are AUDIO versions of IN DEATH books available via any of your librarys?

My library has 17 *cd* audio books of Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, but 0 digital audio books.
My friends library has 0 audio cd's.
My backup library has 23 nora roberts and 20 j.d. robb audio cd's.
My backup backup library has 43 nora roberts and 54 j.d. robb audio cd's.

Roberta, none of the libraries I belong to offer JD Robb's books in audio. Interestingly, even Nora Roberts books are limited to like 5 audio books, compared to 392 digital books, so it is frustrating.
In comparison, Michael Connolly has 58 digital (for Kindle) books, and 43 for audio.

I'd like to know who I should DISLIKE for this so I can send them a little note:)

That's a really good question Roberta. I wouldn't know where to start, but maybe asking your library, also posting on Nora's website?
OK, I Googled and found this. Might be outdated by now, but after reading this, I believe the publisher of the In Death series is who you (we) need to contact.
To summarize, OverDrive has been working toward the goal of eliminating the WMA audiobook format for some time now, and they’ve convinced many publishers to provide OverDrive with MP3 versions of their titles. This is important because MP3 format is easier to download and works on devices that couldn’t handle WMA audiobooks. (Reminder: WMA audiobooks always had to be downloaded to a Windows computer first, and then transferred to a device. They couldn’t be downloaded to a Mac, and often couldn’t be transferred to Apple iPods, iPads, or iPhones due to publisher restrictions.
MP3 audiobooks, on the other hand, can be downloaded to Mac or Windows computers, transferred to MP3 players, or, using the OverDrive app, they can be directly downloaded to most smart phones and tablets.)
Unfortunately, not all publishers have agreed to provide their content in MP3 format. This means that some audiobook titles that are only available in WMA format will be removed from the OverDrive service beginning tomorrow morning (Tuesday, May 19). Because of this, we will be losing approximately 1,100 titles from out collection, including all or most audiobooks by the following popular authors: Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb, Lee Child, Greg Iles, Dean Koontz (25 of 47), John Lescroart, Jennifer Crusie, John Green, Kristin Hannah, Debbie Macomber, Sandra Brown, Fern Michaels, Iris Johansen, Mary Balogh, Linda Howard, Karen Robards, and Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick. Note that we still own over 7,000 audiobook titles that are available in MP3 format.
I haven't seen a WMA format on Overdrive for at least two years.
Roberta, you can look at the publisher for the audiobooks and start there (Brilliance Audio). You may also contact J. D. Robb with your comments. Hopefully, one or both gives you a response and lets you know why the audiobooks are not in most online library inventories.

Thanks Randi. I have listened to Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" series on audio - d/l from my library... LOVE IT:)
AHA! - Brilliance Audio was bought by AMAZON (the evil empire) in 2007. OF COURSE AMZN needs more $ than the pittance libraries would pay:( They sell the 'MP3 CDs' via other sellers - but looks like the actual Audio d/l is only available on AMZN. Bastards:( They want $15/month for the "Audible" membership via AMZN:( Complain to Amazon?! lolz They (along w GOOG & AAPL) run the flipping world:(
