30.6 - Alison's Task: Summer Birthdays

As a kid I always loved the summer. My birthday is in July and I would start a countdown to my next birthday almost as soon as I celebrated one. This task will focus on the family members I have celebrating summer birthdays.

Please select TWO of the following options and read ONE book for each.

Option #1: Red Haired Girl
I have 3 sons, 4 nephews and only 2 nieces. Our youngest niece is also the only one of the nine of them that has reddish hair like me and she will be turning one year old on June 21st.
Read a book that has someone with obviously red hair on the cover or mentions a character with red hair in the goodreads description.
ex. The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley Visions of Magic (Awakening, #1) by Regan Hastings Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Some lists for inspiration, but be careful not every book will work for this task:
Girls with Red Hair
Redhead Reads
Red Hair

REQUIRED: If you choose to use the cover option please include the cover in your post

Option #2: Day You Were Born
My birthday is on July 10th and this year that falls on a Thursday, just like it did the year I was born (and also the year I got married!)
Read a book that has a day of the week in the title, subtitle, or author's name. Plurals and possessives are fine but no other variations.

Option #3: Baby Boy
The youngest of our gang is our nephew Elliot and he will be celebrating his first birthday on August 29th. He is baby Elliot to everyone and I think it is likely the nickname will stick even as he becomes not a baby anymore ;-)
Read a book where the cover shows a baby of either gender. The baby must relate to the storyline in some way and "baby" or a synonym (newborn, infant, etc) must appear in the title/subtitle
ex: Baby on the Ranch by Susan Meier Baby on the Ranch,
Bringing Up Bébé One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting by Pamela Druckerman Bringing Up Bébé: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting)
or in the book description The Boss's Surprise Son by Teresa Carpenter The Boss's Surprise Son "now she's expecting his baby!"

REQUIRED:Include the cover in your post

Option #4: Birthday Buddies
Our oldest son will be 8 on August 30th and last year he was at the hospital when his cousin was born and he loved that they almost got to share a birthday. I also have a cousin that was born on my 6th birthday and it is a very special bond we share.
Read a book by an author who shares a birth month with you. These sources may help Author Birthdays, Famous Author Birthdays

REQUIRED: Please include the month of the birth you and the author share in your post

REQUIRED: Indicate the options

Will this work for option 1? The Hero and the Crown It's a little hard to tell with the cover, but the description does mention that she's a redhead...

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3057 comments Okay for option 1 would you accept The Faerie Path (Faerie Path, #1) by Allan Frewin Jones or In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness, #2) by Tamora Pierce

For option 3
Would Baby, Oh Baby! by Robin Wells or Baby Alicia Is Dying by Lurlene McDaniel

Susan A | 1828 comments For Option 2,
Read a book that has a day of the week in the title, subtitle, or author's name.

Black Gold has two authors. Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid Is a dual authored book acceptable?

Bea The Good Luck of Right Now - description mentions a redheaded grief counselor. Would this work for option 1?

All of these work for red hair as they each have at least one red haired character on the cover. A few you linked to an eBook version so make sure you follow the rules for ebooks and length as well as I can't approve them for that in this thread. :)

The description definitely makes it clear. Great choice. I loved that book!

For Option 1 the first one won't work, it doesn't look red on my screen and its not in the description. The second one works for red hair but it won't work for length unless the genre children's falls off the main page.

For option 3 both books work for the baby part of the task but the second one won't work because of the genre children's on the main page since it is less than 300 pages.

Alison | 185 comments Rhiannon wrote: "does Allergic to Death work? the first page of the book says she is a red head http://www.barnesandnoble.com/sample/...

I'm going to have to not allow this one because the task specifies cover or goodreads description, just to make it clear for the mods awarding points.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3057 comments Ok, I can read "Eleanor and Park" since that was already in the approved books for option 1 and Option 3 I will go with "Baby,Oh Baby

That works and it looks like a good read. I added it to my TBR.

Alison | 185 comments Andy wrote: "For option 4 Birthday Buddies Michael Crichton and I share a birthday month. May I read something by him written under one of his pseudonyms? i.e John Lange, Michael Douglas, or Jeffrey Hudson?[boo..."

In general no to pseudonyms as it adds another step to verify for task moderators but in this case I'll allow it at least for that particular book because goodreads lists John Lange's birthday on the author page so as long as that matches up with your birth month you are good to go!

The Selection on my screen appears to have brunette hair so that one won't work.

All of the rest will work for their options in the task.

This looks blonde to me on my monitor so it won't work for option #1. I am sorry.

This one won't work I'm sorry. I already ruled on one of the selection books further up thread and in person the book really looks brunette not red and this looks the same on my screen.

I'm sorry but without having a copy of the book in front of me I can't approve it based on what is inside the book. I'm going to have to let it stand as the task is written, only cover or goodreads description will work to confirm.
