I hope our country isn't. I've spent months listening to a man say and do things that I never thought a president of this country would do. I hope that I am not about to see things happen in my country which I do not recognize.

You are not alone. I'm feeling sick to my stomach. I felt so positive when I went to vote yesterday. I was in line with several older Spanish speaking neighbors who were there with their adult children to vote for the first time. This is what Trump and Co. are afraid of, but I thought it was exactly the picture of my America that I wanted to see.

Work was hard today, in part because I didn't sleep last night but also in part because our school clientele is about 90% Hispanic. Some of our children's parents are here "illegally". They are scared.

That's understandable. They are probably better off in California than they would be in Texas.

We (Australia) also have the inglorious sight and sound of over-educated, over privileged schoolboys from an 'elite' Sydney school using those words in celebration. Our ignorant , undereducated, racist leader of the Pauline Hanson Party who won 3 or 4 seats in our latest parliament, based on Muslim hatred, Aboriginal blah blah blah. UGLY people..

I despair.

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments I am known with the nickname 'Polly' as I usually can find a silver lining. For us in OZ, I hope we get the wave of people who DO leave the States. Our medical breakthroughs need cash and clever scientists which will benefit the whole world.

So many great breakthroughs, in recent times, but no funds for a fast track clinical trial.

Have to see rainbows or make some with a hose...

I'm devastated, also. I just stayed offline today - figured it would upset me for no purpose. I am so sorry for your students and their families, BnB. I just recently learned that Clinton won the popular vote.

My 32 year old daughter was so upset. She asked what this said to her and her friends about how society views women. That they are unimportant objects?

I just don't know. I think that while so many were willing to believe the worst of Hillary, they didn't believe the worst of Trump, even when there was record of what he has said and done.

I have long had the theory that whoever appears the most dynamic on tv will win the presidential election, but I thought that there was a certain level of decency which was required. I no longer think that.

I know what you mean, BooknBlues. My students are all special needs students and many noncitizens. If they were to be sent back to Mexico I doubt there would be very much in the way of services.

I think back to how he mocked the disabled reporter and wonder who thinks that is an acceptable way for our President to act? That alone should prevent him from being President, but there is so much more.

He has been allowed so much leeway and yet Obama has been mocked for how he has bowed to other heads of state or his present to the Queen of England.

Denizen (den13) | 566 comments This morning I uncurled slightly from the fetal position and read the headlines on the NY Times and Washington Post. I am still not ready to deep dive into any analysis of what his presidency looks like.
