“I’ll let them know.” She replied, studying him for a moment before clearing her throat. “I was going to get some lunch. Do maybe want me to bring you some too?”

"No, you don't have to," Rowan said, shaking his head. "I'll get something to eat soon, when I can be around people." He didn't really need it, but he'd like something other than blood sometime soon.

“Is being around me hard for you?” Ever asked, studying him a little differently now. More like a nurse than a friend or someone smitten with him.

“I know it’s hard for me.” Janelle replied in annoyance, not caring if Rowan felt bad about it because it was his fault this girl wasn’t gone already.

He tried not to give Janelle a look at that comment but only because he didn't want to look crazy. He was trying to be nice to his friend who was upset and even though he was sorry, he wasn't backing out of it. "No, I'm fine. You're just one person. Being around dozens of people is a different story. But I'm not hungry yet, so I don't need to eat any food."

“Oh, okay…” Ever replied, but she wasn’t exactly sure he was saying the truth. It did feel awkward, though, that they didn’t really have anything light to talk about.

"Are you doing okay?" He asked, since that was more of the reason he'd asked her in. He knew she really didn't have anyone to support her while her sister was unconscious, so he was concerned with her wellbeing.

“I’ve been working to keep my mind off of… everything.” She replied, and she at least wasn’t lying to him about that. “Fire and her siblings went to some part of town where a bunch of old-style witches live to get information about Siphons. I couldn’t go because they… hate us. Like, a lot.”

"They hate you but they have information on you that you don't even know?" Rowan asked. He supposed her situation was unique, and that he had the luxury of there being a million and one vampires while there were just a few Siphons.

“Siphons aren’t exactly in the history books as heroes or innocents.” She replied, frowning a bit. “They kinda killed my kind off in the beginning so… I can’t exactly go find a siphon and ask for their opinions or something because the few that did survive got out of here. Raelynn and I are probably the only Siphons left in town.”

"That doesn't make sense," Rowan said, frowning too. "How do you exist then, if they killed everyone off? There's got to be someone. I feel like your powers don't just spontaneously appear." Well, he supposed it was possible, but that would make them as twins an even rarer phenomenon.

“Well, think of it as a… recessive gene.” She replied, rubbing her arm. “Some witches have the gene but don’t have the actual curse…. Oh, and Raelynn and I don’t know who our father is so we can’t say for sure that we didn’t get it from him.” She added, having forgotten that bit because she just assumed everyone knew already.

"Right..." He said, but he didn't think he'd actually known that. Raelynn talked less about her family than he did which meant he knew virtually nothing. "But still, they're holding that information away from you for no reason. Wouldn't it be better you understood?"

“We’re under the impression they’re still trying to kill us one way or another.” She replied, trying not to make it seem too serious although… it was. “So helping us with anything wouldn’t help their agenda.”

"They're sucky people then," he said, frowning. At least they weren't actively trying to kill them as far as he knew. It was definitely awful though. "You're just kids still, technically."

“And you’re so old in comparison.” She teased, kicking her foot to his because he was so serious out of nowhere. Well, not out of nowhere but… she wanted him to be happy.

If she were capable of doing it, Janelle would have strangled the girl with her stupid ponytail for acting so… in love with Rowan. Why did the universe put this girl in her way? Hadn’t she suffered enough boredom?

He huffed a laugh, but he didn't feel much like being cheered. Coping that way never helped so he wondered if that was what she was doing now. "No way. I'm holding on to my kid-ness as long as possible."

“You’re more mature than what you’d think.” She replied, smiling a bit because she didn’t think it was a bad thing. Raelynn would likely tell him the opposite but then again she wasn’t Raelynn so… it didn’t matter.

He just shrugged. "I don't think so, but...whatever. everyone has to grow up sometime but I'm still really young for my species too." He didn't necessarily care if he was mature or not. He had enough to worry about.

“How old is the oldest person in your family?” She asked, since it was interesting to think the same person pampering kids and giving them cookies was as old as the town. She of course never had any pampering when it came to her but that was because her grandmother was a cold-stone bitch.

"Um....that's a tricky question. Are you talking immediate family? Because Dad is really old. Older than my grandparents," Rowan answered, not sure how really to answer that question. Because he was pretty sure his sister's boyfriend was older than even that. And he had no clue how old his grandmother was....and he really never wanted to get close enough to ask her.

“As far back as you can come up with.” She replied, tilting her head to the side. She supposed he wouldn’t really think about it, though. But immortality was fascinating.

"Then Dad. Unless my sister's boyfriend counts," he said and shrugged a little. "We don't deal with Dad's family at all and Mom's is...pretty much all human. Kind of. Not really, but yeah." As he was trying to explain, he realized it didn't really make sense but that was how it was. His siblings were vampires, his cousins were angels, and his grandparents were....human.

“Oh.” She replied, rubbing her arm again- there was just something in the room bothering her and she couldn’t figure out what it was. “My grandmother is… like, eighty. She had my mom and aunt when she was really old. My grandfather died before I was born so I don’t know how old he would be now. But I did hear he was a cool guy.”

"I bet. Grandfathers are usually pretty cool," he said. But it also usually only applied to grandfathers who were still around. For whatever reason they were. "My grandfather is like....um...maybe sixty? I think? Grandma's a little younger. But because I didn't grow up here, they aged slower than we did."

“She’s the headmistress or something, right?” She asked, although she wasn’t sure. His family was pretty influential here, so it was impossible to keep track of all of them.

"Yeah, she is," he said, shrugging. It wasn't a big deal to him, other than how important it was when he let her down. "You should know like...a lot of my family by now, working where you do."

“I only know the basics.” She admitted, smiling a bit. “I know a lot of them are In the medical or educational fields. Um… I know only a little about the younger ones, though. Besides their medical histories but you’re the only one that has an outstanding one.”

"Well you know my older sister at least, right?" Rowan asked, since he'd seen Leah working around the hospital wing a lot after the attack. "My younger siblings aren't as reckless so I'm sure they're not around as much."

“Whitlea.” She replied, nodding. She was always pleasant with her, but Ever didn’t exactly know how to do small talk so… that was about it. “I might have seen them when I was going to school too, I think. Not as troublemaking but still very easy to pick out of the bunch.”

"Green hair is hard to hide so yeah," he said and chuckled a little. "Redheads are way easier to blend in, here more than anywhere else, apparently. Except maybe Scotland."

Ever couldn’t help but to laugh at that, playing with one of her strands because… well, it was true. “Point blindly in any direction and it most likely landing on a redhead.” She agreed, saying something that Raelynn had once noted. She also said something about Scotland but she didn’t remember exactly what it had been. “I don’t know…I think having hair like yours would be nicer. More unique.”

"Unique is fun and all but I don't know if I would have chosen it for myself. Maybe, I don't know," he said and shrugged again. His own hair color never bothered him aside from when he couldn't wear some colors because of how weird it made him look. But he could settle on black.

“I think I’d have liked having pink hair.” She replied, after a moment of consideration. “I know it’s close to red but… I think I’d work it. Maybe.”

Rowan tilted his head, trying to imagine it. She was so...natural that he could barely consider it. Her whole personality was that way. But maybe he could picture it. "Maybe. I think you could make it work."

“I’ll consider pink, then, if I do ever decide to do anything to it.” She replied, smiling still. She likely wouldn’t but it was still good to know it was a possibility. “And I think you’d look great with black hair.”

"Black, really?" He asked, considering it. Black hadn't even been on his radar when he'd been considering it. Even as non commitally as he had been. "That would be interesting."

“You’d look like… Jason Priestly? He doesn’t have black hair but it is dark and you’d look like him.” She replied, tilting her head to the side to study him. Not to mention he was also attractive.

He held back from asking who that was because it probably didn't matter to him, and it was easier not to be rude by omission. "Huh. Cool, I guess," he said and leaned back a little. This was nice but he would rather be doing other things. Sleep would also be a better alternative, not because Ever was boring or anything, but because he'd been drained and pushed himself too early. But Everleigh clearly needed the company, so he was trying. He was trying to figure something out too, when his stomach began growling a bit. Quiet but unfortunate.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go get something to eat?” Ever asked, glancing down at his stomach before looking back up at him with a raised eyebrow.

Rowan made a face. "I'm not sure I'm ready to do that," he admitted. One person, one heartbeat, was fine. But he was being overly cautious now because he didn't want to overestimate himself and hurt anyone.

“Then how about your order something and I go get it for you?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. “You can call the order in and I’ll just bring it here for you. I don’t mind.”

"You're not going back to work?" He asked, since it had looked like she was earlier. And he hated having to bother her like this. And it wasn't even his own neglect that made this happen. Well....not completely.

“I am, but I’ve still got half an hour left. Longer, even.” She replied, shrugging a shoulder. “If we order here it’ll save more time.”

"Um... Sure," he said, still hesitant but he had to eat. If he wanted to feel sane anyway. "Alright I'll order something if you can get it for me."

“You can order now so that I can order too.” She replied, ticking her hair behind her ear. That way, they’d just get everything at the same time.

"Sure," he repeated, since it made sense. He wished he didn't have to call it in, though. Someone around here should have an online ordering service but no one actually did. "What do you want to eat?"

After a few minutes of calling in the food place and ordering their things, Everleigh left to pick them up- returning maybe ten minutes later. They ate and talked- Ever did most of the talking- until she had to leave. After one last reassuring hand squeeze where she felt the strange energy from the bracelet, she was gone.

Rowan slumped back on his bed when Ever finally left. That, he felt, hadn't accomplished anything but made him more exhausted. He pulled out one of the blood bags Ever had brought earlier and started to drink from it. Basically, the whole day was shot now, because he'd probably need to sleep again after this.
