W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 5 comments I am curious, because I applied last weekend and haven't heard anything yet. A friend of mine said it only took her about 3 days. Did it take you a long time to get into the Author Program? Did you receive an email when you did?

I can't remember how long it took when I applied a few years ago, but it shouldn't take long. Are your books listed on Goodreads and did you apply using your author name as displayed on the books?

message 3: by W.T. (new)

W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 5 comments Yes, and yes. I'm not sure what went wrong.

Eric Westfall (eawestfall) | 195 comments W, I respectfully suggest that...for the moment at least...you don't assume something has gone wrong. To the best of my knowledge, getting into the author program requires action by a person, not some software. So just because a friend got it done in 3 days doesn't mean that's GR policy.

As I recall, when I first signed up a few years back, it took several weeks and some reminder inquiries before it got done.

Perhaps give GR another couple of days, and if there's no word, then inquire about the status of the application.

Just my USD .02.

Eric

Your user name is showing as W or W.T., but your author name is W.T. Fallon. Do you have a user account at Goodreads as W.T. Fallon?

I am David George Richards. That is my user account here at Goodreads and it is the author name on my books. I just have the one user account at Goodreads as a reader and as an author. You should be the same.

I also agree with Eric's comments. His post and mine crossed over.

message 7: by W.T. (new)

W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 5 comments Well, I have W. T. as my first name. W. T. Fallon is the full name on the account.

Then maybe you should take Eric's advice and wait a few more days then send them an email. They should let you know if there are any problems.

message 9: by W.T. (new)

W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 5 comments Okay, thanks for the advice.

Abby Goldsmith (abby_goldsmith) | 4 comments I don't recall it taking a long time, but it was a few years ago for me. As others said, this is probably not an automated process.

Marie Silk | 223 comments I got one in April of this year and don't remember it taking more than a day or two. I hope you get set up soon :).

Mellie (mellie42) | 639 comments From memory mine took about a week.

How do we know if we are on the Author's Program?

message 14: by Marie Silk (new)

Marie Silk | 223 comments Looks like W.T. and Yves are set up as authors already.

Gerry, I think they mean switching from a regular goodreads profile to an author profile and being able to use the extras that come with it (blog, follow option, giveaways).

message 15: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn (jaclyn_w) | 417 comments W.T. and Yves, sorry for the wait! It looks like both of you have been successfully added to the program.

Gerry, if an author is part of the Goodreads Author Program you'll be able to see the "g" icon and the words "Goodreads Author" on the right of their name when visiting their profile page. I've had a look and you've already signed up.

Mari (anyone) | 20 comments It is confusing when you go to enter a new book. That leads to frustration. Surely, it could be more user friendly.

Mari, I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with that.

To clarify, you can add a new book on Goodreads by following this link. If there's a specific step of the process that you're having trouble with, please let me know. I'd love to help out with this!

message 18: by Mari (new)

Mari (anyone) | 20 comments I know my books are on Goodreads. That isn't the point. It is the difficulty in setting things up. It was easier (before I had a publisher) to set things up on Create Space.

message 19: by W.T. (new)

W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 5 comments Yes, it took me about a week but I finally got approved. Thanks for all the support!

message 20: by Ulysses (new)

Ulysses (greengablesfan) | 3 comments I'm working on getting two books published, one fiction and the other nonfiction. I'm currently using SmashWords for both but would love to expand it to Amazon, Kindle, Audible, and any other platform I can think of.
Since I am primarily pursuing a self-publishing method rather than going the traditional way through an agent, would there be a longer waiting time? Is one method for getting the book available on Goodreads be more effective?
Thanks!

message 21: by Mari (new)

Mari (anyone) | 20 comments Use the Smashwords style guide (its' free) to format for an electric or digital copy. Publish on Amazon's Kindle. You can then put it on Goodreads. You cannot go exclusively with Amazon or you woud need to remove it from Smashwords.

message 22: by Ulysses (new)

Ulysses (greengablesfan) | 3 comments Why can you not publish both on smash words and Amazon simultaneously? Why do you have to go if either one or the other? I know someone who did the former, which is why I find it confusing. Actually, I am familiar with the style guide and style sheets, so that is not a issue for me. But I will look at it if I have to, for more advanced features. Right now I’m working on trying to secure a cover diviner for both my novels.

Mari (anyone) | 20 comments If you sign to be on Kindle exclusively (I forget what they call it now), it means just that: no other publisher for ebooks. You can do printed elsewhere, just not ebooks. You can publish on Kindle without it being exclusive. Just watch what you are doing.
