I'm still having a difficult time liking Lyra. I don't get the thought process of making a protagonist whose best skill is lying.
And the attitudes about murder are just baffling to me.
The still with Dark matter, and now the Subtle Knife are interesting though. However much like the alithemometer, the Subtle Knife seems to be serving as a very convenient plot device.
It looks like I was right about the missing Shaman guy being Will's father. Apparently being in Lyrra's world allowed him to find/manifest his demon.
I think I like this one better than the last book so far, but some of my same problems exist. Maybe because I'm reading this as an adult instead of a kid? Maybe all the kids would find Lyra great? To me she seems selfish and petty. I know kids can be that way, but to be the hero of the story?
Then again, I like Will and he's a murderer. Of course most books I read seems to have the hero killing someone or another. Will was being pursued by bad people and there was nothing he could do.
I guess we'll see where the final section takes us. Maybe convergence of all the plotlines, since the pilot and Will's dad are heading toward the Knife bearer, not knowing who it is or that Lyrra is with him.
