Melanie (mvalente89) | 2197 comments I've been working on fixing authors with initials (mostly public domain stuff) and I'm not sure how to fix names where an initial and full middle name are included.

For example: Francis H (Francis Henney) 1812 Smith

Should this author be edited to Francis H. Smith or Francis Henney Smith?

I'm inclined to go with the full middle name rather than the initial, but I wanted to get another opinion first. I run into names like this a lot and was just skipping them, but I'd prefer to fix them.

lethe | 16359 comments On public domain editions, authors will often be mentioned with their full name, even when in their lifetime they published under a shorter name.

In these cases, you should go with how the author was published in their lifetime. Books that have the full name should have that name added as secondary author.

According to the Library of Congress, he published as Francis H. Smith: https://catalog.loc.gov/vwebv/search?... (see f.e. results #4, #6-11).
