Q&A with Penelope Douglas *CLOSED*

If you could be best friends with any character that you've ever written... who would it be and why?
Thank you for writing all of these amazing characters and stories for us to submer..."
Hi, Grey! Thank you!
I would probably be most comfortable with Rika or Tate. I feel like K.C., Ryen, and I are too much alike. Fallon and Easton would be intimidating to me. Rika and Tate are easy to be around.

Hi, Amy!
That's a good question. Yes, I probably do draw lots of inspiration from movies and music, if not for the plot then for a scene at least. I can't think of anything off hand, but yes, other artists inspire me, too.
I always wondered what happened with Claire and Bender and how it was seeing each other in the halls Monday morning. I took a little inspiration from that.

Thanks :) <3"
I connect with Rika in that story the most. Trying to own who you are and not worry about breaking a few rules. I'm most excited to write about Damon, though. I don't think it's a secret that he excites me the most! Lol

Have to say from the minute I picked up Bully I knew I would love the book and have loved every book you've written since.
I see you commented that you would like to write with J.R. W..."
Hey, Noreen!
Yes, I have considered writing paranormal, and I've thought about angels and ghosts (ones that you can touch ;) ) I think vampires have been done a lot, so I'm not sure I could bring anything new to the table.
Thanks for the question!

Hi, Abby!
I really loved True Friends. Bring Me the Horizon was very Punk 57, I thought. <3

OMG OMG OMG!!! Hi Penelope!
I love love LOVE your books!!! Been a huge fan since I read Bully when it was first published back in 2013! I recently read Punk 57 on my birthday week and I was totally blown away! Misha, owns my heart! ❤❤❤
My question is:
Is Misha based on or inspired by someone you know in real life? I love the idea and originality of Misha for a boy's name and Ryen for a girl's name. Btw, I totally LOLed when Misha went through the phase of signing off as "Mish". Haha! I totally adore him!!! He's so badass, yet so sweet and sentimental... *SWOON*
Thanks so much for answering my question!

Since Punk 57 happens at high school, I was wondering what your favorite courses were at high school?

What is your all time favorite author and book?"
Hi!
I actually don't really have one. :( Books that I loved at one time might no longer be my favorites. I read based on blurbs, not necessarily based on the author. Kind of strange, I know, but the plot has to interest me. If I'm not grabbed with the blurb, then I kind of lose interest.
xoxo

Did you have a specific muse or inspira..."
Hey!
Basically just a lot of think-time. I needed space and silence to dream up the characters and scenarios. I thought about my own fantasies and turn-ons, and I think that's a valid point to make to any aspiring writers. If you like it, others will, too. I was delighted by how many people connected to and loved my crazy teens. ;)
Thanks!

My question is: from all of your characters who would be the first one to di..."
Oh my goodness! Lol
Um, well, I think the bad people. Thomas and Nate from the Fall Away series and maybe Trevor from Corrupt. Out of characters I liked, probably Madoc and Will. The funny guys always go first. ;)
Thanks for the question!

Do you have a hard limit that you absolutly hate to write about?
I love all your books! You are my favorite author so THANK YOU for writing such amazing books!! xo"
Hey!
I wouldn't say I will absolutely not write about something. If it calls to me, I will. But as a reader, I hate reading about prison rape and child abuse. Those things have to be written well so as not to make it too painful for the reader. Otherwise the romance gets lost.
On a lighter note, I hate beards and skinny jeans. If you put a hero in those, I might lose interest. ;)
xoxo!

Hi! You'll get their story in Next to Never. It won't be full length, but enough to see how it begun and played out.
xoxo!

I have some of your books on my TBR but sadly haven't gotten to read yet, so my question is....what book of yours would you recommend that I read first?"
HI, Melissa!
I would recommend Bully (it's the start of the Fall Away series), or if you want stand alones, Corrupt, Punk 57, or Misconduct would be fine.
I personally loved Corrupt the most, BUT it is very rough, so if you prefer tales just a bit softer, Bully or Punk 57 ;)

What's your biggest challenge to write Devil Night's series and divided into 4 books?"
Hey, Elle!
The biggest challenge is how to keep the suspense up. The secondary plot is as much a part of the story was the romance in these books, so yes, the plotting is a huge hurdle. I eat lots of candy. Lol
xoxo!

I seriously need to calm down. I really love your writing and your books are my go to for love-hate stories! It was exciting to read your replies since most of my questions were alrea..."
Hey!!
Thank you! So glad you love the books. If I weren't writing, I'd still be teaching. I miss it sometimes, but I love being in control of my career now and doing what I do.
And I'm not sure about Magic Mike. The movies disappointed me, but if the show gets better reviews, I'm game!

Besides music, what else inspires your story/characters? Also, what's your all time favorite book?
Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with the world!"
Hey!
My Pinterest boards help a lot, and also I spend a lot of time day dreaming. That's really the most important part. You need time to think.
And I don't really have a favorite book, actually. I've loved lots of different things from so many, and my tastes change over time, too.
Thanks for the questions!

Aaand, same goes for books obviously :P"
Hi!
Well, I had to watch more that one episode of The Vikings and American Horror Story to get hooked. But I ended up loving both series.
As for books, I can't really think of any. If I don't like the book, I stop. My free time is small, so I don't waste time on books I don't like. I just stop and find a new one.
Thanks for the questions!

Thank you for taking your time to spend with us this week. I am pretty new to your work but so far I really enjoy what I've read.
My question for you is:
Where do you get your ideas ..."
Hi, Loyda!
I get inspiration from Pinterest, music, and just a ton of daydreaming!! Lol.
But yes, I'll surf Pinterest, finding images that inspire feelings or scenes.
Thanks!

Hey!
I just answered this on the question above. ;)
And yes, it feels great. Love it when I get a kick ass idea I can't wait to dream through and work out in my head.
xoxo!

I didn't sleep for a week after reading Corrupt. Or even the night I read it lol. I stayed up till 4 am to finish it and had to wake early but it's the first time I could honestly say it was so..."
Hi! Thank you! That's a huge compliment, and I'm thrilled you loved it so much.
The idea for one girl facing several guys she sent to prison came from a news story. It wasn't a good story, but it got me thinking about in a couple years when those guys get out and perhaps run into that girl, what would the dynamics be like? Would they still be angry with her? Would they seen revenge?
Corrupt took a long time to plan, and I'm glad it was delayed. Think time really helped.
Then I saw the movie Mischief Night, about a blind girl in house alone, and two masked guys break in to terrorize her, and I thought it would be intriguing to center the book around Devil's Night. With Pinterest and my playlist, the whole story just came together over time.
Thanks for the question!

Thanks!
Linda"
Hey, Linda!
Good question. Playing with my new puppy Eevee helps a lot. She's so cute. But I also like to play music in my empty house when I'm alone during the day. You might catch me dancing horribly to 80's rock. Lol
Thanks for the question!

Hi, Lillia
My top 3 most interesting are Michael, Kai, and Damon. I love all of my characters, especially those from the Fall Away series, but I consider Corrupt my pride and joy. I did exactly what I wanted, wrote these dynamic men that were assholes but I couldn't help wishing they were real. I would love to see them in the flesh ;)
xoxo!

Hey, Carmen!
I think I connect to K.C./Juliet and Ryen the most. They were very flawed heroines, and I just loved their growth.
xoxo!

Yes, I have! I hope to someday :)

Hey! Not at the moment, actually. I'm working on the Devil's night series, and then I plan on getting started on the Fall Away spin-off some time next year and juggling the two for a bit. Who know what could pop up, though?
Thanks for the question!

Corrupt is one of my all time favorite books.
Do you have a rough release date for kai's book? And will Michael make an appearance in it?
Thanks in advance"
Hi, Sarah!
I'm hoping for March, but nothing is official yet. And yes! Michael, Rika, and Will will be very big parts of the story. They're a gang ;)
xoxo

No, I read in many genres. I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the Nevermore series, the Gretchen Lowell Series, and lots of erotica, as well. I don't have a favorite book, but I get work out, so I like to change it up.
xoxo!

Will you write any stories from the other characters in Punk 57?"
Hey!
I have no plans to do so at this time. I would love to, but I'm about to juggle two different series, so I can take on more right now.
Thanks!

Well, I don't enjoy upsetting anyone, but I love that you feel something. I want people to love or hate the books. If you're indifferent, that's the worst. But yes, I love writing angst. It comes naturally. I love raw emotion.
xoxo

Absolutely loved Punk 57!! Will you be writing more books about Misha & Ryen? I haven't had enough of them and I need more please "
You will probably see them later in the Devil's Night series. Misha is Will's cousin, so I'm sure we'll see a glimpse of them in Will's book if not before.
Thanks for the question!

Hi!
I like Michael and Jax. They're strong without being so angry. I found them complex and very dynamic.
Thank you!

This was asked a few times, but just in case you didn't see, I actually don't have a favorite author. I choose books solely off blurbs and if the plot interests me.
Thanks for the question <3

Hey, Kelly!
Romance, of course, but I like thrillers, too.

Hi, Gabriella!
The second character? When I write a series, I always plan on following a side character from the first book. Was that your question? I don't follow the same couple through multiple books. It's always a secondary character from the first book.
And yes, all of my books have playlists. They can be found at the beginning of the book or on my website!
Thank you!

Have you ever thought about setting a story outside the USA? Maybe in Europe?"
Hey, Silvy! Fancy meeting you here ;)
Yes, I would love to. I like to be very versed in what I write, though, so that scares me a little. I've traveled, but I don't feel fluent in daily life in other countries, slang terms, and social norms, so I would need to prepare. A lot. Lol
Thanks for the question!

Thank you for the chance on this giveaway as well!"
From the same genre? I think probably Tijan or Abbi Glines, because we all enjoy young love and have similar styles, but I doubt I will ever co-write with anyone. I'm too much of a control freak. ;)
Thanks for the question.

Where do you get the inspiration from for your male characters? Are there people in your life that you draw the characters from?"
Hey, Angie!
They might be loosely based on experiences with guys I grew up around, but I improved them 110% ;) Lol. Most of the boys just come from my head, my playlists, and other characters I've read. Like Jared was, in part, inspired by Dank from Existence.
xoxo

If you could hire any actor that YOU like for Jared and Tate (just your, not anybody else's opinion), who would it be? Who would you think could bring the emotions onto a screen as be..."
I'm so sorry, I couldn't possibly answer that. I am not on the up and up of who's young and hot in Hollywood these days. I honestly have no idea!! :(
But no matter, they're better in your head anyway ;)

Hey, Jennifer!
I don't have a favorite author unfortunately. I choose books based on plots, not the writers. And I probably wouldn't be good to collaborate with. Lol. I'ma control freak, and I always fall behind. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!
Thanks for the questions!

Becky, Becky, Becky...Kai is gay.
I'm just kidding. ;) But he is soon to be very taken. Lol
And yes, there may not be a threesome per se, but the books won't be getting tamer, so hang on.
xoxo

Hey!
I really hate prison rape scenes. I still haven't watched the final episode of season one of a certain series on Showtime, because I knew what was about to happen!
Other than that, if it's well written, I'll buy anything.
And no, at this time, I'm not planning another contemporary. Maybe eventually.
Thanks!

Ryen and K.C.! They have a lot of me in them, and I loved writing them most.
xoxo

Hi!
I don't have absolute favorites (it changes), but I love the BDB series, the Gretchen Lowell series, and the Nevermore series. I also love Frankenstein.
Thank you!

Next, Fall Away Series. Will you write a book only about Quinn or about the rest of the "young generation", too?
And finally, will you write any other books about other characters in Punk 57 (if, yes, which characters?)?
Thank you so much for taking the time to even read my infinite questions XD "
Hey!!
Okay, I'll do my best to tell you what I can, but I can't answer all your questions quite yet.
Damon wasn't taking orders from Trevor. He alluded to Rika that Trever would be next, since he was at fault technically. I think he was using him as back up. As far as Damon and women, that's a VERY complicated man with strong issues, and you'll start to peel away his layers in Hideaway, so rest assured that things will start to open up. I think Damon is a very complex character and there's more going on with him than what we see. Yes, he will have a book, and I'm not so sure he and Rika are done battling. ;)
I don't want to give away any more, so just be patient. You'll see him again.
Yes, I will write a book for all the Fall Away kids, and no, I have no plans for more Punk 57 books at this time.
Thanks for the questions!

THANK YOU!!

I'm a huge fan of all of your books especially the Fall away series and I fell in love with all of the heroes in every story (Jared and Kai <3) I've been requesting this as a gift f..."
Haha, okay!

I'm very curious about Will. There's not much about him in Corrupt. Do you have something in mind for him? Could you tell us?
Thank you!"
Hey!
Yes, Will will have a story, and basically what you read in Corrupt and Punk 57 is about all I want you to know right now. I'm still working him out, so I don't want to say things that could change. I will say the Cove in Punk 57 will be very important in Will's book.
xoxo

What is the hardest thing about writing?
Thank you :)"
Hi, Irma!
The actual writing. Lol
Dreaming and plotting is fun, but the writing is tedious and hard. And writing action scenes is the hardest. You have to stay in the moment, so it's a trial.
Thanks!

3 Books you've read more than three times? :D"
Hi!
Honestly? None. I've read a few twice. Like Frankenstein and Fallen Crest High, but I don't read much anymore, other than my own books when I'm editing them. It sucks. :( My free time is zilch, so yeah... Lol
Thanks for the question!

Who is the character you're most excited to write about and why?"
In the future? I'm excited to write the Caruthers brothers from the Fall Away series and Damon for Corrupt. I'm intrigued by the characters, and the dynamics of their stories are extremely interesting to me ;)
