Who is the character you're most excited to write about and why?"

In the future? I'm excited to write the Caruthers brothers from the Fall Away series and Damon for Corrupt. I'm intrigued by the characters, and the dynamics of their stories are extremely interesting to me ;)

Hi, Grey! Thank you!

I would probably be most comfortable with Rika or Tate. I feel like K.C., Ryen, and I are too much alike. Fallon and Easton would be intimidating to me. Rika and Tate are easy to be around.

Hi, Amy!

That's a good question. Yes, I probably do draw lots of inspiration from movies and music, if not for the plot then for a scene at least. I can't think of anything off hand, but yes, other artists inspire me, too.

I always wondered what happened with Claire and Bender and how it was seeing each other in the halls Monday morning. I took a little inspiration from that.

I connect with Rika in that story the most. Trying to own who you are and not worry about breaking a few rules. I'm most excited to write about Damon, though. I don't think it's a secret that he excites me the most! Lol

Hey, Noreen!

Yes, I have considered writing paranormal, and I've thought about angels and ghosts (ones that you can touch ;) ) I think vampires have been done a lot, so I'm not sure I could bring anything new to the table.

OMG OMG OMG!!! Hi Penelope!

I love love LOVE your books!!! Been a huge fan since I read Bully when it was first published back in 2013! I recently read Punk 57 on my birthday week and I was totally blown away! Misha, owns my heart! ❤❤❤

My question is:
Is Misha based on or inspired by someone you know in real life? I love the idea and originality of Misha for a boy's name and Ryen for a girl's name. Btw, I totally LOLed when Misha went through the phase of signing off as "Mish". Haha! I totally adore him!!! He's so badass, yet so sweet and sentimental... *SWOON*

Thanks so much for answering my question!

message 158: by Hanne (new)

Hanne | 758 comments I LOVED Punk 57! I started it on release day and didn't want to stop reading. Did you know from the start that Misha is a musician? Was it difficult to write those lyrics?

Since Punk 57 happens at high school, I was wondering what your favorite courses were at high school?

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Stephanie wrote: "Hi Penelope,

What is your all time favorite author and book?"

Hi!

I actually don't really have one. :( Books that I loved at one time might no longer be my favorites. I read based on blurbs, not necessarily based on the author. Kind of strange, I know, but the plot has to interest me. If I'm not grabbed with the blurb, then I kind of lose interest.

Hey!

Basically just a lot of think-time. I needed space and silence to dream up the characters and scenarios. I thought about my own fantasies and turn-ons, and I think that's a valid point to make to any aspiring writers. If you like it, others will, too. I was delighted by how many people connected to and loved my crazy teens. ;)

Thanks!

Oh my goodness! Lol

Um, well, I think the bad people. Thomas and Nate from the Fall Away series and maybe Trevor from Corrupt. Out of characters I liked, probably Madoc and Will. The funny guys always go first. ;)

Thanks for the question!

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Steffi wrote: "Hello,

Do you have a hard limit that you absolutly hate to write about?

I love all your books! You are my favorite author so THANK YOU for writing such amazing books!! xo"

Hey!

I wouldn't say I will absolutely not write about something. If it calls to me, I will. But as a reader, I hate reading about prison rape and child abuse. Those things have to be written well so as not to make it too painful for the reader. Otherwise the romance gets lost.

On a lighter note, I hate beards and skinny jeans. If you put a hero in those, I might lose interest. ;)

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Melissa wrote: "Hi Penelope!
I have some of your books on my TBR but sadly haven't gotten to read yet, so my question is....what book of yours would you recommend that I read first?"

HI, Melissa!

I would recommend Bully (it's the start of the Fall Away series), or if you want stand alones, Corrupt, Punk 57, or Misconduct would be fine.

I personally loved Corrupt the most, BUT it is very rough, so if you prefer tales just a bit softer, Bully or Punk 57 ;)

What's your biggest challenge to write Devil Night's series and divided into 4 books?"

Hey, Elle!

The biggest challenge is how to keep the suspense up. The secondary plot is as much a part of the story was the romance in these books, so yes, the plotting is a huge hurdle. I eat lots of candy. Lol

Thank you! So glad you love the books. If I weren't writing, I'd still be teaching. I miss it sometimes, but I love being in control of my career now and doing what I do.

And I'm not sure about Magic Mike. The movies disappointed me, but if the show gets better reviews, I'm game!

Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with the world!"

Hey!

My Pinterest boards help a lot, and also I spend a lot of time day dreaming. That's really the most important part. You need time to think.

And I don't really have a favorite book, actually. I've loved lots of different things from so many, and my tastes change over time, too.

Thanks for the questions!

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Irene wrote: "What's a TV show that you had to give more than one chance and ended up really liking? :)
Aaand, same goes for books obviously :P"

Hi!

Well, I had to watch more that one episode of The Vikings and American Horror Story to get hooked. But I ended up loving both series.

As for books, I can't really think of any. If I don't like the book, I stop. My free time is small, so I don't waste time on books I don't like. I just stop and find a new one.

Thanks for the questions!

Hi! Thank you! That's a huge compliment, and I'm thrilled you loved it so much.

The idea for one girl facing several guys she sent to prison came from a news story. It wasn't a good story, but it got me thinking about in a couple years when those guys get out and perhaps run into that girl, what would the dynamics be like? Would they still be angry with her? Would they seen revenge?

Corrupt took a long time to plan, and I'm glad it was delayed. Think time really helped.

Then I saw the movie Mischief Night, about a blind girl in house alone, and two masked guys break in to terrorize her, and I thought it would be intriguing to center the book around Devil's Night. With Pinterest and my playlist, the whole story just came together over time.

Thanks for the question!

Hi, Lillia

My top 3 most interesting are Michael, Kai, and Damon. I love all of my characters, especially those from the Fall Away series, but I consider Corrupt my pride and joy. I did exactly what I wanted, wrote these dynamic men that were assholes but I couldn't help wishing they were real. I would love to see them in the flesh ;)

Hi, Gabriella!

The second character? When I write a series, I always plan on following a side character from the first book. Was that your question? I don't follow the same couple through multiple books. It's always a secondary character from the first book.

And yes, all of my books have playlists. They can be found at the beginning of the book or on my website!

Yes, I would love to. I like to be very versed in what I write, though, so that scares me a little. I've traveled, but I don't feel fluent in daily life in other countries, slang terms, and social norms, so I would need to prepare. A lot. Lol

Other than that, if it's well written, I'll buy anything.

And no, at this time, I'm not planning another contemporary. Maybe eventually.

I love Kai and Will, of course, but I'm interested in th bad guy, too. It didn't seem like he wanted to harm his friends. Where did your inspiration for him came from? Will he get a book of his own? He seemed to kinda start to like Rika at first, but then... Well, we all know what happened. Did he really like her, even if just a bit? Did he act that way 'cuz that was what he learned early in his life, that females ruin everything and he was trying to protect his "turf" and his friends, or was there something personal, too? He seemed like someone that didn't take orders from anyone, so why did he lower himself to taking orders from T.?
Next, Fall Away Series. Will you write a book only about Quinn or about the rest of the "young generation", too?
And finally, will you write any other books about other characters in Punk 57 (if, yes, which characters?)?
Thank you so much for taking the time to even read my infinite questions XD "

Hey!!

Okay, I'll do my best to tell you what I can, but I can't answer all your questions quite yet.

Damon wasn't taking orders from Trevor. He alluded to Rika that Trever would be next, since he was at fault technically. I think he was using him as back up. As far as Damon and women, that's a VERY complicated man with strong issues, and you'll start to peel away his layers in Hideaway, so rest assured that things will start to open up. I think Damon is a very complex character and there's more going on with him than what we see. Yes, he will have a book, and I'm not so sure he and Rika are done battling. ;)

I don't want to give away any more, so just be patient. You'll see him again.

Yes, I will write a book for all the Fall Away kids, and no, I have no plans for more Punk 57 books at this time.

Thanks for the questions!
