Lorcan ~ Character Discussion

I kinda hated Lorcan at first and couldn't understand why people shipped Elorcan but then I read EoS and he grew on me until the end where I kind of hate him again. I know he'll probably redeem himself and he only did it to keep Elide safe BUT WHY
I think the best thing about Lorcan is that he is a complex character - complex characters are Sarah J Maas' specialty! One minute you love them, the next minute you're unsure, maybe you even really dislike them...because they seem so real and have so many facets to them. Regardless of your feelings towards him, you have to love the way Sarah J Maas has woven him into the tapestry of the series so effortlessly. I'm hoping that ToG #6 shows further growth in Lorcan's character and that we get to see a different side to him :)

And it's selfishness that drives him to summon maeve. It's also his selfishness that gets him screwed out of Elide's trust. And that last thing is going to make him reflect. Because he's now a broken and desperate male who wants to redeem himself
I'm not sure if this has been discussed on other threads but does anyone think that Lorcan and Maeve are related? Like closely related. Maeve wouldn't sleep with Rowan because they're too closely related and the only other cadre member that was reject was Lorcan. Plus he's demi-fae and she seems to dislike demi-fae except those with her powers. Her nieces and nephews all have powers related to her sisters so it would make logical sense those demi-fae with her powers are her descendants. There's that girl who was mentioned in HOF that had Maeve's powers and she was snapped up, the fact we don't know anything also bugs me. I digress back to Lorcan, I'm just not sure if he'd be her son or grandson. The grandson theory would explain away him growing up on the streets, Maeve is a cruel b***h and I'm sure any children of hers would want nothing to do with her. Especially since she's massively insecure about other fae rulers so it stands to reason she'd suspect her own heirs.
I saw this theory online and it kind of makes sense. I just think it's kind of gross because Lorcan was in love with her.
It is a really good theory but she most likely wouldn't have allowed Lorcan to reside in her palce because she wanted almost nothing to do with her relatives. Also, Diane has a great point.
Also he wouldn't have taken the blood oath if he had known Maeve, which you said was his mother or grandmother, had cast him aside.
^^ Definitely agree with that!
I don't know though. What I like about Sarah J Maas's characters is that, oftentimes, their behaviour can be unpredictable. I love the complexity to the plot this brings and, while I would like Lorcan to redeem himself, I would also like it if he didn't as it may bring more emotion and more complexity to the tale. So I really don't know. I guess I'll just be happy with whatever Sarah J Maas chooses.
I think Lorcan is just really old and the lines have blurred for him. He doesn't really know how feel love but Elide is showing him what it is to feel again.
I agree with that. I think that Lorcan has just seen so much destruction and despair in his life that he has given up and fallen into cynicism and bitterness, maybe even depression. It's up to Elide to help him out again.
Also, do you guys think that Lorcan still loves Maeve?

I'm guessing that this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think that Lorcan has never really loved Maeve. I don't think he ever realized what true love was as he was never able to witness it considering the environment that he grew up in, so even if he did experience some feelings towards her I highly doubt it was anything even remotely close to love, more like fascination.
Yeah I totally agree. I think he 'loved' her more because she sort of took him in and because the blood oath made him feel like he was a part of something. But it was never true love. The fact that he thought it was is proof enough that he doesn't know what true love is. Hopefully he will discover that with Elide. I am so excited to see where there relationship will go in the final book. I ship them so hard!!
Honestly, I don’t think it was love at all either more like lust and fascination. I don’t think at this point he knew what love truly was and I don’t think he was ever really shown true kindness or love. He was abandoned and grew up on the streets until Maeve noticed him for his abilities despite he was Demi-fae. I think him being Demi-Fae is why she did not take him as a lover. I get the feeling she would only take Purebred Fae lovers. I really love Lorcan he has become one of my favorite characters.

I think she always gives them what they don't want, especially if they betrayed her, like when she 'freed' Lorcan from the blood oath. She knew that Lorcan fancied her and refused to sleep with him, while she more or less forced Fenrys to sleep with her even though he doesn't want to.
I agree, Booknut. I think nearly every main character in sjms tog books has growth, whether it is small or immense. Lorcan goes through big emotional development in eos.
Lucia wrote: "Didn't Fenrys sleep with her so she didn't hurt connall? I hope I spelt those names right"Yeah, I don't know if it was to keep Maeve from hurting Connall, but Fenrys slept with her to protect Connall. But nonetheless he didn't wanted it and she was like: either you sleep with me or I do something to Connall.
I just finished Kingdom of Ash and every time I think of Lord Lorcan Lochan I start laughing, poor guy.
