Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments Thought I'd share a word with everyone as my TBR gets ever longer.
Tsundoku: the act of acquiring books in order to put them in a pile at home with more [unread] books.

Saw it in a magazine of my sister's this morning and thought I'd share it here, since I am the mistress of this.

Definitely a lot of Tsundoku-ing going on at my house too... :-)

Thanks for sharing!

Catherine | 126 comments You can be the mistress, Holly, but I'm the Queen of Tsundoku. Or at least a Princess.

Ashwini Priya (ramblesandbooks) Hi I'm Ashwini. I'm a first time climber. I've a huge pile of books sitting in my bookshelf ready to be read and around 1000+ books in Kindle device. I'm planning to reduce the size of it by achieving my target of 50 books this year. I'm aiming for Mt. Ararat. I hope I can achieve my target and make the pile a little less intimidating.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) I somehow missed the announcement in the 2016 group. This will be my second time up the Vancouver Mt (36) --- I almost made it to 48 TBR books last year, but hit a huge reading slump in the last part of the year.

I have over 1000 books on the TBR, mostly kindle. I do read a fair amount from library too. I have a problem that I really like to support local bookstores, which means that if I go into one, the odds are that I will leave with at least one book.

Meg (makeli2) | 28 comments Hi, I'm Meg and I'm an addict...book addict, that is! Always have been and always will be. I don't know how many books I own; I can only say that the rooms overfloweth!!! That's not even counting the 1300 (give or take) unread on my Kindle. Can we say this girl has a problem?

I've chosen Mt Toro for a start, as I plan to read books exclusively for this challenge...iow, they will be different from those I read for my other challenges. Take that, tbr!

Welcome, Meg! I'm always pleased to meet a fellow book-aholic! I just indulged my addiction again this weekend--brough home 33 more books from my favorite used bookstore. As if I didn't have anything to read in the house...

Good luck with your climb!

message 215: by Camilla (new)

Camilla Hi everybody! I just joined and want to try mountaineering. My name is Camilla and reading is my main obsession hobby. I have about 200 physical books unread, which I think is not too bad, but after I got my first Kindle last summer, I've managed to acquire over 3,000 ebooks (don't ask me how...). As I also do read a lot of library books, I think I will start cautiously with Ararat.

message 216: by Nell (last edited Jun 16, 2017 04:58AM) (new)

Nell Welcome to the climb, Camilla. I missed your post!

It's easy to accumulate e-books because you don't see them pile up like print books do. Still 3,000! That's impressive.

Good luck on your climb.

Hi, Camilla! Welcome to the climb! I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier. But I'm very glad you're joining us.

message 218: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 6 comments Hi! I'm joining super late, but this has pretty much been my goal all year. I own about 130 unread physical books and 80 unread e-books. I've been trying to focus on getting through some of the books I've had for a while, especially the physical books so I can get rid of the ones I know I don't want.

For 2017, I will aim to read at least 48 books that I acquired prior to 2017.

Conny Hello there :)
I am another late arrival, but I finished the PopSugar challenge yesterday and have sworn to spend the rest of my reading year decimating my impressive TBR pile. And that's just so much more fun with another challenge attached :)
I have only pledged 24 books now, seeing as I have only 3 1/2 months left, and that should be easily doable for me. I may climb a higher peak, we will see. And since my TBR pile is really, REALLY high and already includes loads of book acquired some time this year, I will definitely be back here next year :)

message 222: by Nell (new)

Nell Welcome to the climb Conny.

fyi - The challenge rules allow you to count any books you read this year if you bought then in 2016 or earlier.

Whoah ... nice. I did read the Rules post, but I must have missed that part. I thought I had to start counting from the point where I signed up ...
I may have already scaled my peak, then :D

message 224: by Miz (new)

Miz (twiggyunderworld) Hi, my name's Danira and my objective is Pike's Peak, simply because I've already read 10 titles this year and I want to read at least 10 more. Unfortunately, I'm in a fight with free time and I often get readers block, so I don't know how much I will accomplish in the next 2 and a half months. I have an online ever growing tbr pile and I kinda hope I'll read it all eventually.

message 227: by Elena (new)

Elena Johansen Hello! I found about about Mount TBR in late 2016, when I did a Pike's Peak for the end of that year, and I committed to Mount Olympus this year! I can't believe I didn't think to check if there was a group here on Goodreads for it, so in the next day or so I'll set up my challenge thread to document my success--I'm currently reading #149, most of the way through, so I'll probably finish this weekend!
