Welcome, Laura! Good luck with your trek. Hope to wave at you on Everest as I travel to Olympus. I'm hoping to finally reach the top of that one in 2017.

message 105: by Susan (new)

Susan | 5 comments Hi I'm Susan and once again I'm starting at Pike's Peak, I failed miserably last year but want to accomplish it this year. I mean really I've got a ton of books (mostly ebooks/audiobooks).

I picked up a lot of new reads last year that didn't qualify for a TBR read. Trying to get caught up on some series that I read also. That worked for a while. I seriously need to try to clean up my shelves here on goodreads.

I am also trying to be better at blogging, I swear I say that every year but I have been better at it this past November. December has been a very hard month. Glad it is coming to an end.
My husband had a Basel cell carcinoma removed and that is taking it's own precious time healing. Then my cat had to be put down (12/20 two days after my birthday), we got a new love seat on Monday, refrigerator went out Tuesday. Love seat delivered today, frig tomorrow and it's my stay-cation! SHEW!

I thought I would be able to finish my Goodreads challenge with reading 60 books this year (going for the same goal next year) with my time off, just didn't work out that way.

One more thing: I had an ipad that I would read off of, it died earlier this year and I waited out "thinking" I would get the ipad pro. Then I got disgusted with apple after my ipod wouldn't upgrade anymore. So I thought about getting a samsung tablet. Well then I thought I should really be using my kindle fire that I got on sale for myself. So that is what I've been using and kindle unlimited has killed me. I know I can't use those for this challenge no worries there. But for Christmas my hubbie got me a galaxy tab A. I am so excited to use it but waiting on my otterbox defender to arrive Jan 2 or 3rd to protect it. I'm not hard on a tablet but I just feel better not having oily grimy fingerprints on the screen, so it is just patiently waiting to be used.

That's enough for now.

Hi, Susan! Hope that 2017 will be a better reading year for you. So sorry to hear that December has been rough for you--I hope that your husband is healing nicely now. And my sincere condolences on the passing of your kitty. It's tough saying good-bye to our furry friends.

message 107: by Susan (new)

Susan | 5 comments Thanks Bev, we had him cremated and we brought him home today. House feels less empty now that we have him home. Hubbie is still in the healing process he can't do anything strenuous for the next 6 weeks. He's a drummer so he hasn't played drums since Dec. 02 and probably won't be able to until February. I have to keep reminding him of what he can and can't do.

message 108: by Caz (new)

Caz (caz963) | 1 comments I'm in again for 2017 and am going to climb Mount Blanc again. I've managed 24+ books the last couple of years fairly comfortably, but don't quite have the stamina to get to 36, so I'm playing it safe :)

message 109: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments My TBR is growing by the day -smh- damn you kindle sales!

message 110: by Tina (new)

Tina (godmotherx5) | 6 comments My name is Tina & this is my first time tackling this challenge.

My TBR seemed to get out of control when I had a bad flare due to Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Reading comforts & distracts me. I am 43 & married to a husband who enables my book addiction.

I just bought my first eReader. Oh boy, has that added to my purchases!

In all, I have roughly 200 books between hard copies, audiobooks and an eReader. A majority are hard copies. I decided 2017 would be the year to start clearing some shelves.

message 111: by Shatterlings (new)

Shatterlings | 11 comments Hi, I am Ellie, a first time climber but I really need to do something about the tbr box, it's full. My "problem" is charity shops, they do 3 books for a £, it soon adds up to a big pile of books. I thought I would start off at a low level then work up, even getting 12 books read would be a start.

message 112: by Kathryn (last edited Dec 30, 2016 03:22PM) (new)

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 46 comments Long time bookworm but first time challenge participant. I'm looking forward to it! :)

I purged most of my physical books this year but have about 80 books on my Kindle that I would love to make a dent in. I'm going to tackle Mt. Vancouver for 2017. Thanks for organizing!

message 113: by Fr. Andrew (new)

Fr. Andrew (nitesead) | 93 comments Okay, I kind of flubbed my first go at this, only reading 30 of my huge stash of books in 2016. During that year, I certainly accumulated a BUNCH more books. My goal isn't necessarily to get rid of everything on my TBR piles, but certainly as I go forward, I plan to donate anything I have no reason to keep (ie, won't be reading again, consulting, etc). So 2017...yep, I'm going to do much better! Yes I am! (Is that what everyone says when they make new year resolutions?)

One way to keep me on track will be to check in with this group a couple times a week just to see how everyone's doing, and to participate with conversations now and then. I didn't do that very much in 2016.

So thanks, Bev. My intention is strong, and may we all move mightily forward up the mountainside!

message 114: by Fr. Andrew (new)

There is that! I've made a list already, but it is very much subject to change. Just have to not buy any books in 2017 now. Which is never going to happen.

Any ways, happy new year y'all and good luck in your book hikes!

message 125: by Neil Jon Louie (new)

Neil Jon Louie Miranda (metamerism) | 3 comments Hi all! Neil here. Bookworm since time immemorial but I've been fairly new to taking reading challenges. I tried last year's Popsugar reading challenge but managed only 33/40. I already have heaps and boxes of books that are yet to be read (the Popsugar reading challenge didn't help--I had to buy loads more to fit the prompts). I'm hoping this challenge can help me reduce that pile (until the next book sale, that is).

So, that's enough of me. I wish you all the best of luck, and see you at the summit! :D

message 126: by Steven (new)

Steven (aturing) | 37 comments Hey, my name is Steve. I own too many books. Across to many mediums. I'm a non-fiction enthusiast, although I'll dive into popular or recommended fiction. I have a soft spot for graphic novels as well.

This year, in addition to this challenge, I'm going to try to knock off the big classics I've been putting off. I love the concept of the mountain challenge. Outstanding.

Good luck everyone!

message 127: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments I realised earlier that I can DL books onto the SD card of my kindle tablet too... so along with the kindle 7, my kindle for PC app and actual hard copy I should get a bunch of books read this year XD

message 128: by Lacy (new)

Lacy | 3 comments Hi all, I'm Lacy. This will be my first year joining you on the climb! I planning for many challenges and think this will help keep me motivated. I'm going for Mt. Arafat (48 books)!

message 129: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 33 comments Hi. This is my first time being involved in this challenge. I figured I'd start at the Mount Blanc level. My TBR pile is an entire bookshelf.... and maybe a giant bookshelf height stack on the floor next to it. I have been collecting these books from many places- the teacher swap shelf at work, books sent down from my upstairs neighbor (with totally different tastes in literature), gifts and books I have bought myself. I'm sure my reading will be an eclectic mix!

Anna Underground Broke The Camel's Back (annamurderunderground) | 12 comments I have just signed up for the Mont Blanc challenge, looking forward to it! And 60 pages away from finishing my first, The Tiger's Wife, which has been sitting on my shelf for about five years. My post on joining the challenge is here: https://murderundergroundbrokethecame...

message 132: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan | 100 comments Hi, I've decided to get my TBR pile down a bit this year. I'm really trying to concentrate on the physical books I own but will probably also include some on my kindle. I shall aim to ascend Mt Blanc—as I typically only read about 50 books a year committing to 24 off my TBR pile will be challenging but I think I can do it.

Good luck everyone!

message 133: by Diana (new)

Diana | 2 comments Hello Fellow Readers!
I do love challenges and I am planning on tackling three this year- Book Riot's Read Harder, Litsy's A to Z and for the first time, this Mountain Challenge! Starting with Pike's Peak, but who knows, maybe I'll love climbing! Have not faced the real number of TBR books that I own, but I know they do not fit on my shelves and I can't even physically see what I have!

message 134: by Pim Ooraikul (new)

Pim Ooraikul | 24 comments Hi, all!
I'm Pim. This is my first climb ever and I set my eyes on Mt Ararat (though it will take a couple of years on Mt. Olympus to clear all my TBR piles.) I also participate in many challenges this year in order to keep myself motivated. I hope to read what I should have read long ago (and have more space for new books. LOL) But no hurry, I just want to enjoy the climb. :)

Sheryl_at_Ubookquitous (ubookquitous) Hi Everyone -

Sheryl here --

Most of my TBR is ebooks, making it deceptive since the kindle doesn't weigh more or start shrinking available space in my home when you add a book. With few excepts, new books will be severely limited, and most of my reads this year will be from the TBR mountains. I'm taking on Mt Ararat but the size is about how many I can realistically read in a year, NOT the mountains (stacked on each other) of the TBR pile.

Best of luck to everyone.

message 136: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (covered_in_rust) | 123 comments Hey everyone! My name is Jessica.

This is my first year participating in this challenge and I'll be taking on Mount Olympus. Seems like a lot but I, like a lot of you, have a ridiculous amount of books on my shelves. My classes will also be ending this spring/summer, so I'm looking forward to having a lot more time for reading.

Good luck to everyone in the challenge!

message 137: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 18 comments Hi everyone, I am Miriam from Germany and I have
just discovered this challenge and hope it will help to reduce my massive TBR piles, both electronic and páper. Also I think it might be nice to actually keep track of what you read, as I tend to read a book and then often forget the title and/or author of it, even though I liked it.
I am trying Mount Blanc, as I am sure, I will want to buy and read new books as well, so I need some reading space for those as well. Since this is my first challenge I also really don't know how many books I usually read per year, as I have never actually kept track of that.
Have a great time reading!

message 138: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (cocoreads70) | 5 comments I'm Colleen and I'm a first time climber. I have lots and lots of books, both print and e format. Most of my print books are in the basement, where we've run out of bookshelves (and rooms). I have 6 bookcases down there, many many bankers boxes full of them as well as stacks of them. Plus 3 bookshelves upstairs, and books under my bed, stashed in drawers, etc. Plus my 16G nook is almost full and I just bought a kindle fire for Christmas. I think I'm going to try for Mt. Kilimanjaro. I read over 100 books last year, mostly ebooks and library books but I really need to cut down the piles of print books too. So I'm excited to get started!

message 139: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 23 comments Mount Olympus it is. I've already chosen 52 ebooks that I already own to read this year so another 100 books or so won't be a problem. I think. I might be overachieving. But what's a goal if you don't shoot for the stars? - Jamie

message 140: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani (tiffanipassportbooks) | 6 comments I'm back for the third year, hoping to reduce my TBR, or unread pile as I like to call it, by at least 36 (maybe even 48) books this year.

message 141: by Rokkan (last edited Jan 03, 2017 03:43PM) (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments I'm pretty certain my book pile is going to increase tomorrow. I've 'only' bought two books so far this year ( the translated book of Spanish poetry that arrived this morning doesn't count, I ordered that in December) and one of them was the Kindle First option I get. But I have christmas money itching to be spent, and a short list of books to hunt for so it's... looking good for me coming back next year I guess!

message 142: by Emma (new)

Emma (wordsandpeace) | 6 comments Hi, this is Emma at Words And Peace/ France Book Tours. It's my 6th year as a book blogger. I usually do 12 or more reading challenges. this year I'm limiting myself to a happy few (and no longer organizing French Bingo either), the big goal being my TBR. Here is my post on what I'll meet on Mount Ararat: https://wordsandpeace.com/2016/12/30/...

message 143: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 126 comments I have made it 3 whole days without buying any books, or candles. This is probably a record for me! Seriously though, I am going to try to buy fewer books and add fewer books to my TBR pile this year. I say that every year, but this might be the first year that I genuinely make an effort ;)

message 144: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie (kenziejo15) | 17 comments 2017 will be my first Mount TBR climb. I have chosen to embark on a trip up Mount Blanc. I am starting small, because I am big on borrowing books, especially from friends. I have had many of my books on my TBR shelf for years that I desperately need to read through. I'm hoping this challenge will make me go back to those titles that I continuously overlook. Hopefully, I will progress even higher than this mountain. My shelves would certainly thank me.

message 145: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello,
I'm Kerstin and this is my third year with the MTBR Challenge. And I love it. This year I hope, that I count every book I had read, because I forgot it last year.
My first mount is Mt. Vancouver like every year.

message 146: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments Good luck everyone.

Me: Has a TBR list that could fill a small phone booth type library

Also me: -walks into the bookstore, sees a sale, spends money on more books-

there are some classics in there though, so I can be forgiven, right?

message 147: by Sue (new)

Sue Lauzon | 8 comments I'm back for another year. I did reach my TBR goal last year of 60 books but unfortunately did not make the Popsugar challenge or my overall goal of 100 books for the year (the two challenges combined). I did come pretty close to my overall goal with 92 books read for the year (the most I have ever read in one year!!). I have decided to make my goal for TBR the same this year (60 books - Mt. Kilamanjaro??) and also do the Popsugar challenge again but I am going to amend it slightly so I can use books already on my TBR list/shelves (I have lots of books). My goals for this year are 60 books for TBR and 52 for Popsugar for an overall goal of 112 books. My biggest challenge will be to stop buying books as I think I added way more to my shelves (really boxes) last year than I managed to read.

message 148: by Susan (new)

Susan | 52 comments Hi, I'm Susan. I did this challenge in 2013, and it's definitely time for a repeat. This time, I'm aiming at Mt Killimanjaro. I love to read, and I love books, but my piles of " homeless" books (no room on the shelves) are growing a little too high (ok, a lot too high). I read mysteries, fiction, poetry, children's books, letters, diaries, history, and some classics. Looking forward to mountain climbing in company!

message 149: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (thecrazyninja) Hey all!

I'm Sarah and I'm starting the 2017 Mount TBR. I have an never ending supply (it feels like) of books that I mean to read but never do. I want to try Mt. Vancouver for starters. I'm excited to try and read that many. Wish me luck!
