Elaine I am hoping to thoroughly clean out my Kindle (around 3,000 titles I haven't read yet) this year but I expect a lot of them to be DNFs as I tend to download lots of freebies hoping for the diamonds in the rough. I have found some great authors this way but many more duds. I am also hoping to get some of the 100+ physical books out of my master closet shelves so I can either move them into the guest room where books I have read and love live, or donate them to my local library where books I liked-but-didn't love or DNFed go. I am a reading challenge junky which is why I am reigning myself in and starting at Level 5 rather than going straight for the 150+ level. If I get there, great. However, with all the other challenges I have going, I don't want to overwhelm/overburden/overextend myself.

Thanks, Bev, for hosting this challenge!!

Nell Greetings fellow mountain climbers. I am starting with Mt Vancouver for 2017. I've reached the summit of Vancouver this year and moved on to Ararat. But the number of books I own hasn't decreased. There were so many shiny new books to acquire this year that I can only hope to break even. Maybe [N]ext year I will make a dent in the mountain range.

Lynn (larainey) | 122 comments Hello again everyone! I'm back for the fourth year and I want to 60 books from my TBR pile.

message 60: by Sunsettowers (new)

Sunsettowers | 29 comments Hi everyone! My name is Becca, and I blog at The Bookkeeper's Apprentice. This is my second year doing the Mount TBR challenge, and I have a ton of books on my TBR bookcases to tackle. Looking forward to reading with you all! I'm going to try for Mount Everest with aspirations of going for Mount Olympus if time permits.

message 61: by Allison (last edited Nov 27, 2016 11:38AM) (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) Hi everyone! I've been working on reading my owned books for three years now, starting with this challenge back in 2014, which revolutionized how I read (and buy) books.

Since then, I've continued prioritizing my tbr list but didn't continue with the group. But now I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (sky at the top of the mountain?) and am rejoining to give myself another push.

I'm going to start at Mt. Vancouver level and then see if I have room to level up. I need to leave time for my second challenge focus, which is to make progress on all the series I've started. Many of my tbr books have been first in a series, so reading them all has created a whole new range of mountains to climb!

Nina Sharma Hello! I'm Nina. This is my first time doing a reading challenge. I'm going to go with Pike's Peak. I'm really looking forward to being part of this community.

message 63: by Pooja (new)

Pooja (exploringthe42) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Pooja from Bangalore, India.

I used to read everything under my nose in the past, but have been sluggish lately. I attempted one reading challenge in 2014 [Mainly to clear off my TBRs, but failed miserably - what? with a new marriage and all!! :D]

Well, I'm a new Mommy now, but am still hopeful to be able to climb up the Kilimanjaro at the least! [I've an year's worth of 'sabbatical' from work]

I *Absolutely* *Loved* your group, Bev! and am really thrilled to be a part of your group here (Honest!) :)

Laura (sweettartlaura) | 133 comments This is awesome! I'm climbing Everest in 2017. I might just hit Mt. Olympus.

message 65: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 126 comments Hi everyone! I'm Catherine and I'm a book addict. 2017 will be my second year participating in this challenge. I am half a book away from completing Mt. Kilimanjaro (60 TBRs) this year, so I'm going for the same goal in 2017.

My TBR list hit 1,000 books this year, and is currently at 1,002. Despite that being a huge number, it would actually be manageable if I could stop buying so many new books! I'm also not great about getting rid of books I've already read. Someday I'll have to do a big purge, but for now I live in a house with overflowing bookshelves.

message 69: by Suzze (new)

Suzze Tiernan | 3 comments Hi! I'm Suzze. My mountain actually has 300 books in it. Physical books. I won't mention the ebooks. Or a whole double stacked shelf of advance copies. My oldest book is probably a Michener that I bought new in 1988. I am going to combine this challenge with Litsy's #AtoZChallenge, so my goal is at least 26 books off the TBR. If you're on Litsy. I'm @suzze

message 70: by Anna Louise (new)

Anna Louise Kallas | 5 comments Hi! I'm Anna. This is my second year doing Mount TBR. I loved it this past year and was able to tackle 36 books from my TBR piles. In total however, I've read 130 books with December to finish 2016. We'll see where my grand total is on the 31st. This year, I'm going for Mount Blanc only because I was able to read a lot of my TBR books last year. I'm so blessed to be a part of this group and huge thank you to Bev for keeping this going!

message 71: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (escapinginpaper) Hi there, I'm Zoe! This is my first time doing the Mount TBR challenge. My TBR mountain is huge, and I have an embarrassingly large amount of unread books.

I'm going to shoot for Mount Blanc this year. I think 24 books is a good start for me with this challenge. I'm kind of a slow reader, and I also am in school which keeps me from reading a lot. (Plus I know I won't be able to resist continuing to borrow new books from the library next year...) But who knows, maybe I'll get to climb Mt. Vancouver too!

All in all I'm super excited to have discovered this challenge, and ready to start reading more of the books I actually own. :)

message 77: by Kathleen (last edited Dec 06, 2016 04:43PM) (new)

Kathleen (towers_kt) | 6 comments Hello all, I'm Kathleen! My TBR-pile is still rather towering (though most of my purchases this year were electronic, so more figurative than literal mountains of books at this point). Even so, I think I probably have one double-filled bookshelf and a few stacks on the floor besides to read my way through, since between book giveaways and a mystery novel conference and my own bookaholic-ness, I still acquired a good number of actual books this past year.

In the coming new year, I hope to actually finish 36 of them off rather than running out of breath about halfway up Mt. Vancouver (as seems to have been the case this year--barring, well, probably more than the expected number of miracles over the next 25 days).

message 78: by Donna (new)

Donna Twichell (twich56) Hi. Since I, too, will be reading mostly from my TBR list this year this is perfect for me. I'll be climbing Mount Blanc slowly but surely, I hope. I hear the view from the top is lovely!

message 79: by Donna (new)

Donna Twichell (twich56) I'm sorry, I just read through the rules again and saw one either I didn't see or didn't read correctly. It states that we must own the books- no library books. I will need to remove myself from the challenge, then, as a lot of the books I read I get from the library. I'm sorry to have to do this.

message 80: by Jeannie (last edited Dec 10, 2016 09:53PM) (new)

Jeannie | 4 comments This year I finished a 50 book challenge a local library hosted. It was my first time in a reading challenge. Alas, they will not be repeating it again. I have plenty of TBR books, most of them bought at library book sales, so, I'm glad I found your web site. I'm starting easy with Pike's Peak.

message 81: by Amy (new)

Amy | 24 comments Hi everyone! After much internal debate I decided to join you in the quest to tackle the TBR pile. I have about 55 books and 40 ebooks that I have not read. my hope is that this group will help me as an accountability partner in getting some of this collection read and passed on. I'm going to start with Mount Blanc and see how the year progresses. Looking forward to the climb with all of you! Amy

message 82: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hi, I'm Jen. I'm a first time Mount TBR climber. I'm starting with Mount Blanc. I don't know precisely how many unread books I have but between my bookcases, my kindle and my audible account I know it amounts to decent number.

I actually counted by TBR books and it turns out there's 178 of them, so I might actually try for Mt. Vancouver.

message 86: by Christine (new)

Christine Hi Bev, been a year, or maybe two, but I'm back for another tackle at my mountainous pile of books.

I've already got the camping gear airing, mothball smell, and the climbing gear being checked, don't want to fall and break something.

I'll start at the bottom and see how far I can get.

Best of luck to my fellow climbers and may we have a year full of wonderful books.

Christine

message 87: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 35 comments Hello all!

Moving on from 2016 with an even bigger TBR pile than before. So I'm'a make the jump from Mt Vancouver to El Toro. I have no doubt that I can read 75 books in a year, it's just making them all be from the TBR that's the trouble! Allllll the shiny new bookses, precious. Doesn't help that my favourite book store does buy one get one half price... But my nan has discovered a love for reading so I can at least pass a few books on to her...

message 88: by Roxy (new)

Roxy (bookchick313) Hi all, Lisa here. I'm a veteran whose been with this group since its first year in 2013. However, I've only completed the challenge once or twice...oops. In my defense, I've been working on first an Associate's degrees and now two Bachelor's degrees during the majority of these four years. But enough with the excuses! I am a 28-year-old soon-to-be English teacher (high school). I am married but my only babies (my precious dog and two cats) have fur at the moment. I read primarily from the YA genre, but that's getting a little stale for me as I've been reading heavily from that genre for the past 9 years. Recently, I've been getting more into mysteries and thrillers and wanting to get into high fantasy, but it seems to be very hit or miss for me. In 2017, I hope to read more classics. I really want to read Great Expectations before the New Year, but we'll see how that goes. I have 116 physical books on my tbr pile and about 600 unread books on my Kindle. Even though I was wildly unsuccessful this year (so far I've only read 22 out of my 48 book goal), I am going to try to read at least 48 of the books I already own in 2017. I know that I can do it if I put my mind to it! My biggest downfall this year was a major reading slump I fell into that lasted pretty much the entire summer. In 2017, my goal is to catch up on completed series that I have not finished yet and also to read 100 pages a day. For someone that works 25 + hours a week and commutes two hours a day for class , takes an online class, and commutes two hours a day for a student teaching position, this is quite ambitious. However, I'll be graduating in 2017, and I really want to prioritize reading again.

message 89: by Erica (new)

Erica (erfette) Hi! My name's Erica and I own a lot of books. I've never done the Mount TBR challenge before, but this year I'll be combining it with my usuals - the Book Riot Read Harder challenge and the POPsugar reading challenge. My own personal goal is for at least half of the books I read in 2017 to be ones I already own. I'm shooting for Mount Kilimanjaro for now. We'll see if I can up that later in the year!

message 90: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Wahle | 4 comments I have over 300 owned books on my TBR. Library book sales and used book stores are a weakness of mine. I'm attempting Mt Vancouver because I want to clean up the TBR, but I want to leave room for new stuff as well...

message 91: by Jazz (new)

Jazz | 21 comments I've set up base camp and gathered all my climbing gear, and then realized I hadn't introduced myself. I will be needing the support of all of you ascending Mt. Ararat, so that's just not very nice of me. My nickname is Jazz, and I read mostly mystery. I'm a long-time follower of Bev's posts because she likes many of the same mystery writers that I do—the classic vintage mystery authors. Bev, you are my "go-to" reviewer when I'm choosing my next book. I have far too many books (I'm talking thousands) to bring them all on this climb, but I plan to bring at least 48. I'm very excited to join you all on this adventure, just hoping that my stash of wine doesn't freeze on the ascent. Good Luck, everyone. See you at the peak!

message 92: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Solomon | 37 comments Hey all, I'm Ashley. I absolutely love reading, but I just recently discovered the fun of reading challenges. In 2015, I did POPSUGAR's 2015 reading challenge, and this year, I did POPSUGAR's 2016 challenge and the Back to the Classics 2016 challenge. They have all been fun, but haven't done much for my TBR books. So for 2017, I am going to take part in this challenge. I will start at Mt. Vancouver (36 books). I will be marking all my TBR books with sticky notes today. So excited to get started!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 7 comments Hello! I'm Lianne, I blog at The Towering Pile, and this is my 6th time doing the Mount TBR Reading Challenge! I think I've only succeeded in it the last two years, when I signed up for the lowest level, Pike's Peak. This year I'll be doing the same but with high hopes of upgrading during the year.

I currently have 883 books on my TBR pile. Yeah, I have a problem. For the last year and a half I've been working in a library, which has somewhat cut down on how many new books I've bought, but which has also made me read more library books and thus fewer books off my pile.

Diane McCarthy (bintie) | 2 comments Hello, I'm Diane in Colorado! I am about to fail my 50 books in 2016 challenge (by 7 books) so am shooting for something more manageable. Doing a Mont Blanc TBR trek, giving me room to read other things that catch my eye. If I make it up a higher mountain, all the better! :D

Laura (sweettartlaura) | 133 comments Hi, I'm Laura, & I can't wait to conquer my mountain of unread books! I should be able to hit Everest, but because this is my first MountTBR, & for the sense of accomplishment, I'll go peak by peak. Looking forward to see you all on the way up!

message 97: by Amanda (new)

Amanda R (fairyteapot) Hello! This is my second year doing this challenge. Last year I tried to read the 12 oldest books on my shelves, I did read some but not a huge amount due to other challenges and there's a reason they're the oldest :) This year I'm tackling my TBR pile. I own over 400 print books. I have a bookshelf upstairs and downstairs but now there are piles on the floor. I have a book buying problem. I hope to rein myself in this year so that I can put those piles on the shelves. I'm starting with Pike's Peak and plan to move up as I go.

message 98: by Katharine (new)

Katharine (kathyh256) | 27 comments Hello, I'm Katharine. I don't usually do reading challenges because I don't like to feel pressured to read a particular thing, but I really need this challenge. My TBR piles are so huge I don't dare to count them. I'm starting with Pike's Peak as even a small reduction in my huge heap of books would be a good reduction. Best of luck to everyone else.

message 99: by Janine (new)

Janine | 2 comments Hello, I'm Janine. Excited to find this group! This will be the first time I participate in the challenge, and I'm going to start out small, with Pike's Peak.

I have an entire bookshelf (or two) full of books I've either read and loved or bought with every intention of reading and just never actually....read. I work at a library, which helps keep me constantly stocked with reading material, but those due dates and new things constantly coming out and being made available means I never actually read what I own. I'm hoping participating will help me start to make a dent!
