As much as I liked them both, I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice more. I felt that it had more substance to it and I enjoyed the satire and wit in it more so than in Sense and Sensibility. The Bennet family had an interesting and extremely entertaining dynamic that I absolutely adore. Although I think that you can't go wrong with either, I vote Pride and Prejudice! (It does help that I have am in love with Darcy).

Even though, thanks to S&S I met Jane Austen as a writer, I´m in love with the character of Mr. Darcy and I liked more the story of P&P.

It's a shame that any adaptation of P&P didn't satisfied you because the miniserie of 1995 (i think that's the date i don't remember well) was the best one bit i have yo say that Emma Thompson's performance was awesome

One of my goodreads friends once said, maybe S&S was written after P&P. I'm not sure but it makes sense.
I think 5 sisters are too many. LOL.
And it's weird for Bingley's having given up Jane simply because of Darcy's persuasion, why couldn't Bingley love Jane while Darcy loved Lizzy, if it was because of their parents and younger sisters??
While in S&S, Edward had been engaged with Lucy, that was a more sound reason.
In S&S, Wickham was just a wicked soul. But in S&S, Willoughby was punished enough.
S&S is closer to reality. ;)
Maybe you are right but you need to have in mind that Austen introduces you Wickham as the one who "humilated" in some kind of way in a moment before the P&P story took place. I think 5 daughters are too many girls too but that's the beauty of Jane's stories, I think jeje.
About Bingley, I know it doesn't have any sense but you have to think that Darcy is his best friend and only want the better for him, also they are in the 19th century ;) Even though, if my best friend had told me that someone is cheating on me, i would have acted as Bingley.

Aah Jajaja yeah you're right, but you know how is Darcy and how his pride works Jajaja. I think Darcy didn't push his friend because he was ashamed because of his acts, his pride don't led him appologise. But at the end he changed his mind and that's the good part, he admitted his mistake and he tried to fix it.As you may notice, I love P&P and Darcy ;)

In my opinion, Darcy is more than pride. I mean, he's so proud of his social level but it gets hard to think in that way when he starts yo fall in love with Lizzy and he tries to cover it trying to separate Bingley and Jane, you know what i'm mean?
Ainhoa wrote: "In my opinion, Darcy is more than pride. For me has to be S&S , becuase i loved Marianne and Elinor soooo much . To be completely honest i enjoyed the plot *and Darcy * more in P&P but the Dashwood sisters have my heart .

Everybody likes Mr. Darcy, but he is surreal. ;)
The S&S film adaptation made me cry. :)
Maybe you are so right but when you face a character like Mr. Darcy, you fall in love with him, even if he's surreal, there's no other way. But that doesn't mean that real characters aren't good ones because I love most every Jane's characters

As you strongly recommended Jane Austin’s books, I’ll probably start Persuasion one day. P&P and S&S are the only two Austin’s books I’ve read so far, and they are so similar, I once decided not to read her books for a while. :)
Jajaja you're welcome to read Persuasion it is awesome like all her books. I also read Emma but I have to say that the her best works are P&P and S&S but you won't waste your time reading it
I love Pride and Prejudice more as i couldn't put the book down, Iloved the story and i love the characters as i really struggled to understand Sense and Sensibility and understand the story. But i did enjoy both but like i said i love Pride and Prejudice as i keep reading it over again and i still really enjoy
Pride and Prejudice though I love both books. The story line in both books are really good but characters wise I like Pride and Prejudice better. There is more liveliness in the characters in Pride and Prejudice than in Sense and Sensibility but I'm sure that is more due to difference in the theme. Anyway my vote will always be for Pride and Prejudice as the best of Jane Austen.
This is a hard choice, as both books are brilliant. I find that I can relate to the characters in both, as Jane and Elizabeth as well as Elinor and Marianne, remind myself of me and my sister. However, based on the fact that I gave S&S 4 stars and P&P 5 stars, I must admit that P&P is, indeed my favourite, even so far as reading it twice in one year. In my opinion the characters are so much more intriguing, as well as the story line, and goes into more depth of the era, delving deeper into social problems. But I do love both, and one cannot go wrong with a Jane Austen novel.
pride and prejudice, but I am a guy and It is probably more of a guy book than sense and sensibility.
These are both some of my favorite books but I would have to say I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice slightly more. It had more humor in it without trying to be overly humorous; and still maintained an amazing storyline. To me, these two books are more similar to each other than any of Jane Austen's other books. I had forgotten just how much I loved these books, now I'm going to have to go read them again.
P&P, most of its characters personalities are written very well, hence I don’t really have to imagine what they are really like.S&S however, I have to imagine hard to understand all characters, and when I re-read again and again, S&S has more depth.
I enjoyed both immensely; however, I gravitate to Sense and Sensibility more because it's darker, and I'm a sucker for the darker classics.
Pride and Prejudice. I loved both books, but I feel like P&P was better because of both the setting and the characters. I was sucked into the Bennett family's drama (and Elizabeth's embarrassment over them), and Darcy's attitude wholly. S&S had great characterization, of course, but P&P was more humorous, and stressful (in a good way!).
Catherine wrote: "As much as I liked them both, I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice more. I felt that it had more substance to it and I enjoyed the satire and wit in it more so than in Sense and Sensibility. The Bennet fa..."I agree!
I agree with Catherine also. I found Pride and Prejudice more tightly written and the irony is superb, particularly when Austen even turns it on Elizabeth, who finds herself warming to Darcy after seeing Pemberly. Delicious. I found the Colin Firth etc. BBC adaptation more faithful to the book than others I have seen, particularly in depicting Mrs. Bennett and various sisters. In my experience when I convinced males to read P & P, they fell in love with Elizabeth. I do not think that they would do the same for the Dashwood sisters.
I love them both although Pride and Prejudice will always have a special place in my heart because I read it first many many years ago. But my all time favorite is Persuasion - there was something about it that just moved me deeply.
I too was moved by Persuasion. When first reading it, the course it took surprised me and Anne's compassion and steadfastness is radiant.
Thanks to Jane's books, i love reading literature. And although i think her books are amazing, P&P was the first Jane's and after reading it i couldn't feel the same way with the rest of the books. It's not like the rest were worst, just i think that in that book you can see much more of feelings, thoughts but in a deeper way. Not just in Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's story, also you can see how good was created Elizabeth and Jane's relationship or how Lizzy realised, little by little, she was wrong, etc.I think that's were the difference is between S&S and P&P, just in little details
I like S&S more because I feel like it's the story of the whole family, not just a handful of characters. The Dashwood's are basically cheated out of their home because of the law and their in-laws, but they manage to attempt to make a new life for themselves.
Pride & Prejudice. I like the characters better and the story is a lot more humorous. I love Sense & Sensibility too but I prefer the former to the latter here.
Just read S&S and liked it, but I prefer P&P more.
I like both, though P & P is probably more enjoyable. Or could be that I could relate better to Elizabeth rather than any other of the female leads. Darcy is also a much more interesting character as compared to Edward, in my view.
Pride and Prejudice seemed more interesting and has an amazing plot. Compared to P &P, S&S seemed boring and bland
I vote for P&P, although parts of the novel showed some rather cruel satire through the minor characters. The personality traits in P&P were often exaggerated for thematic or comedic effect. In S&S, Marianne at times drove me crazy and needed some restraints, as she was so wild in her feelings. But, then again, she was very young and I believe, not too smart. And Darcy! Enough said!
