By "true" do you mean nonfiction, or just realistic fiction (i.e. set in the here-and-now)?

message 153: by Kateb (new)

Kateb | 959 comments a bit of both, but mainly stories based on a real life situation

Kateb | 959 comments I forgot edgar rice burroughs and the mars lot of books, yes I read them in my first 10 years of reading. I wonder what they would be like now, very dated I think

Doubledf99.99 | 136 comments I read a, Princess of Mars, a year or two ago, and it wasn't bad at all.

Doubledf99.99 | 136 comments Yep same here as well, in my photo section I have a picture of some of my old Martian series books.

JT (tophat665) Loved the John Carter of Mars Books. Started on them in 81, I think. I've got the Pellucidar series queued up for sometime in the next couple years, which will likely lead to Tarzan too, since there is a crossover.

message 160: by Kateb (new)

Kateb | 959 comments i would have read them in the early 70's or maybe before that , just looked them up and they were written from 1917 onwards

message 161: by V.W. (new)

V.W. Singer | 371 comments I started on John Carter of Mars too, followed by the rest of the series. After that it was Andre Norton, Dune, and all the others of the Golden Age.

J. Patrick | 6 comments Hi, I was already a big fan of science fiction I think. Star trek mainly at the time. I was 13 years old. My parents bought me an original star trek book called "Death Count" unfortunately I lost my entire book collection when moving house :(

But death count introduced me to one of my favorite st book authors and had a really cool space battle. it was a good book to get hooked on. I never forgot it or the space battle. 20 years later I can remember captain kirks strategy during the battle.

Winnett | 8 comments Mine were the Xanth novels by Pierce Anthony. I picked those up in junior high. Then I read the Pawn of Prophecy novels after that and some others mixed in, but I read everything Anthony for quite a while.

Jason (joppy) | 4 comments I got started on the Chronicals of Prydain in grade 5 or 6. My teacher was also reading The Hobbit, and I received the boxed set of the Narnia books that I still have in ratty condition after 40 years!
