He laughed. "I'm sorry, Miss Anya, I mean no insult, but..."

"I'm insulted. You obviously didn't get the memo. I've killed dragons singlehandedly before."

[mels]

"That's great. I'm human. Have you killed humans?"

She looked down. "I could."

"No. You couldn't."

"He could make me."

"No he couldn't."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Because, miss Anya, I believe that you are too strong willed for him to use you in that way."

"Yes. And he's done it to me too. We weren't expecting it that time. Now we are."

"Anya, you can manage to fight it too."

"You heard him. I've bonded with the creature twice."

"That... Might not matter... It'll just be harder for you than me. But you can."

"Help..." she said, hands knotting in her tunic. She squeezed her eyes shut. "Run."

"Run!" she screamed, trying to fight it. She grunted, trying to keep it from taking her over.

[mels]

"Your dragon Anya, think of your dragon!" He shouted, backing away. "Think of how he manipulated you into killing your dragon!"

[Ilsa, Veratri, Ember, Nigethion, Shinrai, Anya, Adara]

She closed her eyes and focused, trying to, but it was hopeless. Adam had only escaped control because of being unbonded.

[mels]

"Anya, focus! Please. Your dragon, think of your dragon!" He was backing away faster now, and keeping a wary eye on Adara and her dragon, though they were far down the hallway.

[Ilsa, Veratri, Ember, Nigethion, Shinrai, Anya, Adara]

Adara and Razeth grabbed Adam's hand. "We have to run!"

Anya stood, eyes lifeless, reaching for her weapon.

[mels]

"Agreed," he replied, glancing at Anya with regret. "I'll get you out of here. Then we separate."

[Ilsa, Veratri, Ember, Nigethion, Shinrai, Anya, Adara]

"She's after you! I'll handle myself!" Adara shoved him into a door. "Lock it and go!"

[mels]

"Are you sure?" He asked, pausing at the door.

[Ilsa, Veratri, Ember, Nigethion, Shinrai, Anya, Adara]

"Run!" Anya turned the corner. Adara slammed the door and continued down the hall.

[mels]

He locked the door, and took off. Anya would come after him. And he could hold her off... And then what? He could... What? Anya would keep coming as long as he headmaster told her to, and where was there to run, anyway?

Anya was raised here after her parents died. She knew it better than anyone. She was fast, coming after him with expert training, training that she hadn't known had been to kill.

[mels]

He wouldn't get anywhere running. She would find him quickly. He switched direction.

She tracked him, running quickly, soul stifled.

[mels]

He sighed, standing still.

She caught up, eventually, slowing for dramatic emphasis.

"Anya, you can fight this. Come on."

Her face seemed very pained, more alert than during her previous control, but she couldn't effect the onslaught.

"Anya, you're aware of it, you can control it."

[Ilsa, Veratri, Ember, Nigethion, Shinrai, Anya, Adara]

She was completely helpless as she raised her sword.

"Anya! Concentrate. Please, concentrate. Think of anything other than what he's telling you to think about."

She closed her eyes and-
-and fell asleep. She'd forced her brain to shut down.

He breathed a sigh of relief, catching her an instant before her head hit the ground.

She was still going to try to kill him when she woke up.

He sighed. Maybe he should lock her in a closet... But when she woke up, she would still try to kill him. What could he do?

She was obviously trying to dispel the bond, even in sleep.

She was trying... But would it help?

He sighed, wondering what to do. Even if he left, she would only find him again. And really, there was nowhere to go if he did run.

There was a closet locked from the outside right in the room.

He just sighed, and backed up, sitting against the wall.

The headmaster gave up control over her and chose a random human walking by.
