Searabbits | 54 comments So unfortunately this is all based on the blurb I read on the back of the book... whose title I swore I would remember >.>
I read this about a month ago. It may be historic/fantasy fiction (maybe??). I think it's adult fiction.
Book 2? in the series. Princess 1 is off doing some task or other (getting a group together/finding something (a carry-on from something that occurred in the previous book)), while Princess 2 is attempting to pretend to be Princess 1 and is doing such an awful job at it that the Trickster God comes by - and only wants to help.
Princess 1's name may have started with an M? (or not).

Marie | 273 comments Trickster's Queen The main character isn't a princess, but her mother IS a legend in all the land AND use to date the king. MC ends up in a foreign land under a secret mission from the Trickster God to protect two young sisters in line for the throne. She has to pretend to be a slave to get access to the girls. The God wants one of them on the throne, but the girls have different priorities. There are a lot of magical creatures, which ties in with the previous books about MC's mother and other characters' adventures.

Searabbits | 54 comments Nope it's not Tamora Pierce (I've read all her ones :D). This is the problem when trying to google for it because when searching for anything with 'Trickster' it brings up her books :)

Thanks anyway!

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments This sounds like a fun story. I've got a few questions hoping you can remember some more details ... How does Princess 2 manage to trick people into thinking she is Princess 1? Are the two princesses sisters or from neighbouring kingdoms? What happens when the Trickster God appears? Does the situation turn pear-shaped? Can you remember anything about book 1? What's the setting like? Is it medieval, European or some other style, castle or palace? Any other characters you can recall?

Searabbits | 54 comments But this is the problem - I didn't read the book itself. I read the blurb on the back on the book. >.>

I work in a library - so read the back, thought - that sounds interesting, then sent the book off to its borrower. There is a very slim chance I'll see it again but since my library is a hub for 11 other libraries I'm hoping that someone else may have read it?

It's just difficult in that searching for a 'Trickster God who only wants to help' just brings up Tamora Pierce's books. Not to mention any other details that would help would have been if I'd actually properly read it.

But let's work with your questions. How does she trick people? Hmm - I'm going to have to assume she was her twin sister - I have searched for twin princesses (knowing my luck they're going to end up not royalty when I actually find the book again).
I have no knowledge of book 1 at all - I'm assuming there's a book 1 from info of the other book saying something like - they've achieved something (battle?) but now things are getting difficult.
Trickster God - Probably gods appearing is pretty not cool. This one seems to have appeared to help Girl 2 in her masquerade (she apparently needs all the help she can get).
Setting- It really reminded me of the Tamora Pierce style - medieval with battles and whatnot.

I shall keep googling and see what I can find!

Searabbits | 54 comments AHA!~ I have actually found it (I think)! I gave up searching my library catalogue and went onto searching all NZ libraries (failing that I would have braved worldcat).

Meet: The Lyre Thief

The key phrase that worked was 'only wants to help'. Unfortunately for me every blurb/summary I've now read of this book is different >.> but at least I got some parts correct in my memory of it.

Princesses were involved. Trickster god did want to help (called God of Liars so whoops there). The wrong princess started with the M. The book was referencing something that had previously happened (which was actually a whole another series >.>).

But it is found! And I shall read it/the entire series :D.. and now I shall shelve this :) ... (now I shall fail at shelving this. Gah) - nevermind it's not possible for me to shelve this. Would someone be so kind as to do it for me?.
