Heloisa Angeli (heloisa_angeli) | 9 comments I read part of this book in the beggining of the present year, 2016. It is a horror book, aimed at adults, although as far as I read is suitable to teenagers as well. The book is probably around 100 years old, it is public domain and available at "Project Gutenberg". If I not mistaken it was written by a woman using a man's name as pen name (maybe "william", I'm really unsure).

The plot:
It is a horror book wrote in first person. The main character is a man who has the abillity to see into the future. He begin his story saying that he is about to die, he knows because of his ability, he knows that his maid and footman would be too far away to help him when he gots a cardiac arrest.
So he tells us about how in his youth years he realized that he had such ability through visions that would assalt him kind out of the blue...
He falls in love with a beautiful rich girl who should marry his brother. He sees into the futue again, and knows that if he tries he will be able to marry her. But it will be a very bitter marriage. Even so he doesn't care, he wants her and he wants her now. At some point he gave her an opal ring as birthday gift or something.
He also end up travelling through europe with his father. I remember clearly that he goes to prague - he has visions about how the city will be when he gets there.

Thank you for attention =D

What nationality is the author? (British, American, other....) You said part of it takes place in Europe - where is the protagonist from? Europe? America? Somewhere else?

Heloisa Angeli (heloisa_angeli) | 9 comments The author is probably british. The protagonist was british, and his house in the beggining of the book seems to be in england. But during the story he travels, he goes to university for a while.

Oddly enough, it turns out I just read this. It's The Lifted Veil by George Eliot. It's more of a long short story, or a novella. Good story.

There's a major twist at the end which you didn't give away so I won't mention it.

Just in case the OP never shows up again, I'm certain this is the novella. All details match including the opal ring.
