Bam cooks the books (bamcooks) I read an arc of this new book for week 45--I definitely have a passion for Alaska!

"With gorgeous descriptions of the Alaskan wilds and a vivid cast of characters -- including Forrester, his wife Sophie, a mysterious Eyak guide, and a Native American woman who joins the expedition - TO THE BRIGHT EDGE OF THE WORLD is an epic tale of one of America's last frontiers, combining myth, history, romance, and adventure."

Excellent--highly recommend! My favorite new book for 2016.

Katie | 2360 comments Is this an epistolary novel? I started listening to the audiobook, and it seems like it probably is. I might save it for that week.

Valerie | 385 comments I read this book for the 2018 ATY challenge Week 24: a book with a map.

Sophie and Allen Forrester, joined together in their hearts and lives, endure hardship apart. He on a military assignment to explore and map an area of the newly opened territory of Alaska that has refused to be mapped and explored. Sophie at the military post in Vancouver, WA, while she awaits his return. They are both looking forward to the birth of their child and being reunited before the next winter. Both face hardships and loss during this time they are apart. And both seem to face mysterious spirits. It is a hard book to put down. Based on a historic exploration, it is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat as Col. Forrester and his men face a harsh Alaskan winter, spring, and summer. It is impossible to even imagine those hardships.
