This is my mother's book which I have edited and published on Kindle for her. She has been working on it for at least 12 years and I think it makes for a very good read.
In 1954 my mother and a friend sailed from Sydney, Australia to start what turned out to be a 5 year overseas stay. This book detail in first 6 months in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain Portugal and Morocco. It recounts their experiences on the road where they rely on the kindness of strangers to give them lifts, show then the sights and in some cases offer accommodation. The book reflects a time where it was perfectly safe for girls to hitch lifts from strangers and when the Youth Hostel system across Europe was very much rough and ready.
