ABANDONED. Sci-fi Aboriginal boy on colony ship enslaved

"Slow Moving" colony ship is intercepted by aliens centuries after it leaves earth. Colonist in stasis of some kind. The ship is taken and the people enslaved. The story follows a young man. He is a low ranking menial slave until special mental abilities are discovered. His abilities are tied into "the dreaming" but most humans of his "era" do not possess any abilities. His abilities elevate him to the highest possible status, and he goes into training.

Sorry that's it. I read it over a decade ago. Thinking it was closer to 20 years, but can't swear to that. Would assume based on the subject that it is YA, but again assuming.
