Let me just cut to the chase: This is the funniest, freshest, most wonderful book I’ve read in ages! I love, love, love it! Victorian poet Lionel Savage finds himself bereft of funds, a situation he remedies by marrying Vivien Lancaster. Six months in, the two hate each other and Lionel’s ability to write has deserted him. One thing leads to another, Vivien disappears, and Lionel realizes that he may have accidentally sold her to the Devil, who is a rather nice fellow, actually. He also realizes that he does love his wife after all. A rescue mission is planned with the best cast of characters ever assembled. It’s a farce and as one character exclaims, “By Christ, it’s an adventure!” Oh, this book made me happy!—Susan
