Well, it took naked self-interest to get me over to post in the (not so) new Goodreads group. I'm glad to see lots of familiar faces! And I would have dropped by in December to submit a top 10 list. (I've read about 297 books so far this year; narrowing it to 10 books is going to be a blood bath!)
The reason I dropped by is that I'm trying to mobilize my network. I'm sure a lot of folks here don't know or remember me, but for those who do, any help is greatly appreciated. Please see the email that I'm pasting below my signature.
And since I'm here, I'll try to post some of my recent shelf talker reviews to the board--if I can figure out how things work around here. There's a learning curve! I hope you're all doing well. I wish I had time to visit more frequently.

I wanted to ask you for a favor. Well, some of you. Please don't feel obligated, and I hope you don't find this presumptuous. Many of you have interacted with me in my capacity as a bookseller. I didn't hear about this until too late last year, but for the second year in a row, novelist James Patterson is giving away a quarter of a million dollars of his own money to independent booksellers. Not bookstores--he's done that too--but to the actual booksellers like me. He's awarding "holiday bonuses" in amounts ranging from $1000 - $5000, and I, for one, would not be too proud to accept his cash. So, that's what this is about.
Nominations are due by the end of the month, so basically in a week. If you want to nominate a bookseller you know, you will have to go to this web page:
At this point, I'll mention that you should nominate any booksellers you want to have a chance at this nice thing, and I don't have to be one of them. Seriously. But since I'm the person currently soliciting you, here are my details:
How long have they been a bookstore employee?: 2 years, 10 months
Again, please don't feel obligated to do this for me. But if you do think I "deserve a holiday bonus," I'm sure you can articulate it in 250 words or less on your own. However, I will mention a few... thoughts? Basically, I work hard, I love my job, I have really terrific relationships with our customers, I am literally incapable of not giving a book recommendations, I read an average of a book a day to better serve our customers, I'm networking like mad as the store's event coordinator, I threw a wildly successful 11-hour Harry Potter release party this summer bringing joy to small children, and finally... It's really challenging to live in San Francisco on a bookseller's salary. Well, that's why I think I deserve a holiday bonus, but you'll have your own thoughts, and will put it in your own words.
