I would prefer to invest my energy in a theme which is technically more sophisticated. For example, I'd start with a theme which includes a custom homepage option, and one which has several menu bar locations.

Automattic's themes lack many features found in better themes. I delete them whenever I start building a new blog.

Nate Hoffelder (nate_hoffelder) Another suggestion (which applies to everyone):

Disable the Photon CDN feature in Jetpack. It is not the best way to serve images.

Also, I would install and run the Ewwww image optimizer plugin. This will reduce the size of your images without affecting the resolution.

Which plug-in did you use for the split screen? I'm assuming it stays fixed while the chapter scrolls.Cool.
