I took part in a bookmark exchange earlier this year. It worked on somewhat similar principles, and was also a lot of fun. It would be a little less $$ investment, but still a great way to interact and get presents.

I will start doing some research and see if I can plan something for Feb :)

i actually just made a bookmark for my secret krampus at work, so i know i have the skillz to deliver if we do one of those. even though i don't really use bookmarks. i just like trading things,.
