I'll be posting mostly my poems here, but also whatever other quotes and such I find and love :P

I have a lot of poems, so I'm just going to put them all here. It's cool if you don't read them all, I probably wouldn't considering there's so many xD

Fingers In a Glove

Her fingers flew across the keys
She bled into the piano her memories
For once she had no worries, she could finally forget
As she played half of a duet

He could hear from out the door
The song was beautiful but it meant more
He wove his words among each note
And created a place where he could just float

She heard his voice and her heart skipped a beat
He made all her imperfections smooth and neat
He'd held her close to his heart all along
Had loved and hated her but still sang their song

Maybe what used to be can't be again
Maybe they couldn't recreate how they had once been
The general's daughter and the disobedient slave's love
But they still fit together like fingers in a glove

Glassy Eyes

Her ran again through all her lies
He pictured her glassy eyes

She wished she had told him the truth from the start
She wished she hadn't kept up the act that shattered her heart

He wished he could piece her back together again
He knew it couldn't be the same as it was then

She'd made so many grave mistakes
She'd played her precious game for the highest stakes

He could still hear of phantom of the sounds they'd made together
They'd be the ringtone of his thoughts forever

She'd felt the strings of fate pull so many times
But it seems the strings of fate snap sometimes

He'd lose his country but that couldn't compare
To the loss of the girl with the gold-spun hair

She had lost her beloved father's trust
Doing everything she thought she must

Maybe this was how it was meant to be
Him escaping by the sea

Her locked away in a prison wagon
With her fox's mind and the heart of a dragon

In The Meadow

Feeling so far away
Lost in a sea of thoughts
Wondering why she'd had to stray
Swarmed with regret
At least she could say
That she'd gone down fighting
And now she'd been left to lay
In the meadow she'd loved
When the flowers bloomed in May
And when the dewdrops kissed the petals

Sooner or later
She'd be forgotten
Each day she'd come closer and closer
To ending this way
Maybe if she'd be wiser
Maybe she would've lived
At least she could relive each Spring shower
In the Meadow she loved so dearly
But then she hadn't had the power
So she'd lay in her meadow for all of eternity

Sea of Confusion

How could something so wrong feel so right?
Just another wave in her sea of confusion
This moment could only last for tonight
And then she'd be left alone to swim in that vast ocean

Maybe accepting someone else's idea of honor isn't right
And maybe people in the light can't see into the dark
Maybe they weren't meant to win this fight
One of these arrows would have to hit its mark

They'd stormed in like a sudden night
They'd brought explosions and chaos
The day had lost all its light
The odds became a dice toss

She'd thought he'd been lost
To the mighty explosion
She thought that must be the cost
And a tsunami rippled through her confusion

The Lady in the Tower

A story to be told,
She couldn't remember how old,
She told it to herself each night,
When she remembered everything she'd lost in the fight

A beautiful lady who lives in a tower
She has all she could need, she has mighty power
But she keeps her heart in a porcelain box
One night a thief slips in, clever as a fox

The thief leaves her sleeping
And runs with the box he plans on keeping
But he doesn't know what he holds in his hands
But the lady knows, and she's angry enough to shake the lands

But when she finds him frightened in a cave
She chooses, maybe her heart was something she gave
Perhaps he could keep it there
For the lady certainly could share

How do we know what is right and wrong?
Why do we never question?
We just nod our heads and move along.

How do we know who to believe?
Who lies and who tells the truth?
Maybe like this we're too easy to deceive.

Why don't we just think fully for ourselves?
Why don't we just act like us?
We just blend in like nondescript books on shelves.

Why don't we make the best of each other's quirks?
Why do we encourage uniqueness, but then fight it?
I guess we've just decided this works.

How could he?
Angry was all she would be.
A fire to her gaze.
Her realization an escaped maze.

She saw him clearly.
He had hurt the friend she loved so dearly.
He would pay.
She'd find some way.

A trap to lay.
A game to play.
How best to punish him?
She'd be sure not to act on just a whim.

She'd have her payback.
Her anger as stinging as a whack.
He had played her friend like a game.
Maybe she'd do the same.

The Sky

The beautiful sky
The stars that refuse to die
While we wonder why.

The lit crescent moon
It'll vanish sometime soon
Birds will sing their tune

The sun's blinding light
Chasing away the dark night
A marvelous fight

Sunset and Sunrise
The moon and sun's slow demise
Neither truly dies

Shards flying
People crying
Something broken
Panicked words spoken

Shattered glass
Slowly time will pass
A pained yelp
Rushing to help

Blood dripping
The world tipping
Dizziness taking control
The floor begins to roll

Can't see
Everything's blurry
Looking around
Can't hear a sound

Stumbling around
Falling to the ground
Heads turning
Stomach churning

Vision blackening
Dull hearing
Too quick to comprehend
The glass they begin to mend

A wondrous creation
It doesn't warrant explanation
Created by a mind, so beautiful, so smart
Made for art

A soul made for learning
A heart full of yearning
Always making,
The world's theirs for the taking

They're made to dance in the rain
With beauty they can't contain
It comes from inside,
Where the best of them hide

Overflowing with color and words,
Meant to fly as high as the birds
They hold the keys to infinite doors,
And when I say "theirs," I mean "yours"

The Girl and the Devil

She told them she was leaving
They never asked where
She walked alone into the night
Headed right for the demon's lair
She let the tears fall when no one could see
And she went where no one would dare
Where he held her as she cried
Until her pain became too much to bear
He gave her the only thing he could
He offered her something he hoped would help repair
The hole in her heart
That was an ever-growing tear
He offered her power beyond imagining
But there was a price to pay that wasn't so unfair
She'd have to help destroy the world
But she couldn't make herself care
For the world had been so unkind
So she would set the world on fire, light it up like a flare

Child of the Cosmos

The child danced in the night,
She played in the skies,
She held a galaxy in her palm,
With stars in her eyes

The little one twirled all around,
Stirring up the glittering moon dust,
As she watched the skies shimmer,
With a never-ending lust

She was a child of the cosmos,
Stars tangled in her hair,
Always smiling,
For the stars followed her everywhere

Fairy Tales

The fairy tales you've been told are lies
Made to make some weak in your little eyes
But that one mermaid sacrificed herself so the prince could live
Instead of killing him to save her life, she gave all she could give

The girl spelled into sleep, was not waken by a prince,
As you were told, and believed ever since.
She was awaken by her child
But what fun was that? Makes the story ever so mild

The girl with skin as white as snow
Was ordered dead by her own mother, unlike the story you know
But the huntsman took her body to play with, finding her dead
Maybe that's not the best image for a young one's head

Don't believe everything you hear,
The truth isn't made for a child's ear
Don't believe everything you're told,
The truth belongs to the bold

A Dance Through The Night

She was in a glittering ballroom.
It was bright,
Not an ounce of gloom.
As she danced through the night.

Her eyes alight with the joy
of being young and free.
Up on the balcony stood a boy,
Going to her, he said, "Who might you be?"

"I am dust, and wind. I have no name,
I am the darkness when the sun doesn't shine,"
She was wildfire, not the least bit tame.
He said, "So for a dance or two, let me call you Mine,"

We stood up because we thought no one would
We held our ground when they thought no one could
We protected what was right
But here we are, meeting our ends tonight

You can't stand against the gods
Sometimes you try to defy the odds
But here we our at our end
We broke something you cannot mend

We destroyed the world silently
We became exactly what we swore never to be
It wasn't our fault it went so wrong
But it seems we were the villains all along

We thought they were meant to be the enemy
It wasn't until it was too late that we could finally see
We took the world down without a sound
We burned it all to the ground

We scream out with our last breath
Our voices ragged as we try to fight our death
We've watched as our loved one dies
We've watched with tears leaking out of our eyes

We fought for a prize we should not win
We committed more than one dangerous sin
But it was all in vain
We drove ourselves insane

They say before you start a war
You better know what you're fighting for
We threw our cares to the breeze
Maybe that's how we brought the world to its knees

But this is how the world ends,
Not with a bang.
But with a w h i m p e r

Little black paws creep into the room
A little tail, peeking over the bed
He strolls on in, purring happily
He pokes up his little head
And lets out a pathetic sound

He jumps on up, quick as, well, a cat
A little black blur, come to cuddle
He walks on over, taking his place on your neck
And melting you heart into a puddle
A tongue of sandpaper, cleaning your face

He stares with bright green eyes
Laying on his side
You can see his baby fur
And feel his silken hide
While his swishing fluffy tail tickles your nose

Soon he gets up, headed for the corner
To raid your trash for something to play
He tears up what he finds
To your dismay
But he's too cute to stay mad at for long

Killing From Within

Something's tearing me up from within
It lurks beneath my skin
Where no one can see
That it's killed the girl I used to be

I'm dying but no one knows
Because it's not something that always shows
They can't see me disappear
I'm screaming but no one can hear

I need someone to see it in my eyes
I need them to call out all my lies
Because maybe I'm not okay
Like I always say

I'm drowning and nobody can see
That they're doing nothing to help me
Everyone's pushing my head under
But the worst is they don't know that they killed her

I used to be someone else
But that's not the story everyone tells
I tore myself apart inside
Until that girl in me died

I sacrificed it all for them
But now I'm just their pretty little gem
There's nothing I can do
Just make it end, I beg you

Please someone look into my eyes
And tell me I'm not alright
Just wrap me in your arms
Be the one in my world who causes no harm

Someone has to understand
If no one does I have a dagger in my hand
So easy to turn on myself
Than to kill another innocent elf

Someone needs to hold me tight
As the dreams haunt me through the night
I need someone to help me
I'm begging you, please see

The prince who loved to sail
Who was at home on the sea
Maybe you don't know him
And his sailing academy

The explorer who showed his right hand
While his left carried out his true plans
You no doubt know him
And his lies to all the lands

A sailor who proved the truth
Whose name lives on today
Maybe he didn't discover anything
But he made his mark in his own way

The king content to follow the crowd
And take the path of the known
You don't know his name do you?
I guess he didn't make good use of that throne

Can you name them all? Maybe not
Prince Henry, Columbus, Amerigo ring a bell?
The next did nothing special, nothing different
His name I won't tell

To be remembered you can't be the same
History proves it well enough
Following the crowd is so easy
You'll remember the ones who did what was truly tough

Imaginary Friend

Remember me as I fade away
I was your friend once upon a time
In a time when we'd play all day
And every night we'd read a nursery rhyme

But you're all grown up
What about me?
I'm fading away and you just don't remember
Was I really just imaginary?

Lost and forgotten
You're not a little kid anymore
Who will I play with?
Am I just to be left, forgotten forevermore?

You never talk to me
You don't even care
You can't hear my cries for help
We did make such a good pair

But I guess that's over
I guess this is goodbye
I'm fading and forgotten
I'll see you again, sometime

An hourglass full of doom
A mermaid in the top
With water filling the room
But it's sifting out from below

Where a human is stuck
She's drowning and dying
She pounds on the glass, with no luck
In her last moments to live

She reaches her webbed hand
Down through the hole
Reaching for the stranger, in this moment, a friend
She struggles to stay in the water

The girl reaches up and meets her grasp
She holds on for dear life,
Knowing each breath could be her last
Her head plunges under, no more air to breathe

And they died together,
Because neither wanted the other to die alone
And nothing else mattered
Because in the end they weren't all alone

The Song of Death

The war raged on around her,
Blood sloshing at her feet,
Every blow aimed to kill, to maim,
She brought up her mighty sword to meet

She shut out the screams
As people fell, and didn't rise
She took in the death and despair surrounding her
And fought the urge to close her eyes

She thought of why she was fighting,
Why she had to survive such pain
But the soldiers never stopped charging
And the arrows came down like rain

She closed out the world, just for a moment
A second of peace in the wildfire of a battle
She let herself pretend the rivers weren't flowing with blood
And that men weren't slaughtering one another like cattle

She made her hope a shield around her heart
As she ended the lives of innocents
Forced to fight a battle that was not their own
They stormed the camp, stealing people from tents

Women and children, lined up to die
Day after day the death reigned
And even the victors prayed for its end
But it was too late, their souls already stained

Somewhere in the mix, they'd paid
For each soul they'd stolen
There hearts were torn in shreds
The faces of their prey never to be forgotten

They haunted her dreams,
The ghosts of what she'd done
Sometimes she remembered those dead,
And wished she'd been one

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time...
A boy and a girl from opposite worlds met
No worries, this isn't just another story of Romeo and Juliet

The boy was an angel,
White wings and golden halo
He was a bringer of all things good, as pure and white as snow

But she was a demon, full of fire
She let her evil out in flames
She showed all of her darkness and played evil games

They fell in love
And fire met snow
How stupid of them, how couldn't they know?

Once upon a time
A demon fell in love with an angel
And it did not end well

Poor little princess
No knight to be seen
Coming along, heart set on rescuing

Poor little princess
To face the darkness alone
By herself to defend her throne

Poor little princess
Pitted against the dragon
But she'll be brave until she's done

Poor little princess, the evil queen now
Because all evil queens are princesses forced to be brave
Because they couldn't be bothered to save

Maybe you don't believe in magic
But we live on a planet of blue
Spinning around a ball of fire
Next to a moon that controls the sea
And why don't you believe in magic, tell me

But magic is in the little things
The way words on a dead tree
Make us cry and laugh and cheer
The way friends make eye contact, and burst into laughter
So hard it hurts

There's definitely magic
In the silent conversations we all have
In the way we do anything for the ones we love
So if you don't believe in magic
Look a little closer, or live without it, you pick

Rest in Peace, little rabbit,
So gentle and good,
Rest here little rabbit,
In your ever-loving wood

And Rest in Peace
Lovely deer,
Rest in Peace my darling,
For you are forever welcome here

Rest In Peace, clever fox
Come into the tree's open arms
Rest In Peace, little fox,
You who never harms

Rest In Peace, big bear,
Who only wanted some honey
Rest In Peace, my little friend
But why'd you eat the bunny?

Rest In Peace, poor raccoon
Left to run the streets alone,
Rest In Peace,
You without a home

And Rest In Pieces, Horrid Human
Who do you think killed the raccoon, deer, fox, and bear?
Rest In Pieces little human,
Because now you're not welcome anywhere

We'll meet in the inbetween
Where the sky meets the sea
A place of beauty never before seen
I'll meet you there

Where the stars become waves of light
And the beach becomes the clouds
With water of pure night
We'll meet in the inbetween

Where the lighthouse is the North Star
Guiding you to it
I'll meet you there, no matter how far
Because I have no power to resist

I'll see you in the inbetween
Where reality fades away
The world becomes a dream
Of the stars and sea, singing a song that I can't resist

One day at a time
I want so badly to walk in the light
Your life was mine
Now you're gone, but I think I did what was right

Even you said days don't last forever
With a promise to fight
Sometimes the sun sets earlier,
How right you were, now I've lost this beautiful light

I saw you one last time before I let you go
I knew what I wanted would come with a cost
I've made mistakes, I know, I know
But this time I wouldn't, even if you were what I lost

I've hurt you before, and I won't let it happen again
You won't remember me, and that's okay
I can't undo the pain I caused you then
I only ever harmed you anyway

A little girl afraid of the dark
Hiding under the covers each night
So scared, shaking with fright
But the dark was always there for her

When she was older
Lonely and afraid again,
She let her hand fall off the bed, and she found a friend
The darkness reached out and held her hand

Because darkness isn't the material of nightmares,
It's the home of stars
Shining through the dark even from so far
And she realized she wasn't so afraid

Sometimes all I want to do is burn
Every single thing I earn
Sometimes I'm just so mad
There's no reasoning to be had

Because the monster doesn't live beneath my bed
It's pacing back and forth in my head
We're fighting a battle, but I know it's won
There's no coming back from what it's done

It's twisted me beyond repair
I see through my eyes with my soulless stare
I'm not sure if the person in my head is me
But really I don't want to be crazy

Maybe I need help, but it's too late
All I ever feel is emptiness and hollow hate
Couldn't I just destroy everything?
I can feel myself losing my way of thinking

I don't know where it went wrong
I think he's been there all along
Well that's too bad, doesn't matter anyway
He'll have full control any day

I've lost to the person in my head
I think the real me is dead
Now I'm a walking ghost
Just that person inside me's helpless host

A season of sweaters and Uggs
Of falling leaves and blowing trees
A season of jumping into piles of leaves full of bugs
Oh how I love the Fall

It's the season of Pumpkin Spice everything
A season for bonfires and costumes
Full of rainy days meant for reading
Such strangely beautiful, red, yellow, and orange

It's the season of Halloween
A season of Tricks and Treats
No matter your age whether you're thirty or thirteen
So lovely, even though everything's dying

If you could go anywhere,
Would it be to a 'where' or a 'who?'
If there's one thing I'm sure of
I'd go to you

Because home is where your heart is
Whether it's right next to you or a thousand miles away
You can still feel it beating full of love
Each and every day

My home is a person
And I know you're always there
And no matter what
I'd go to a 'who' not a 'where'

If you want the truth,
It still hurts
I can joke and laugh and mention it casually
But inside it hurts me, really

It's been 2 years,
And it's still a dull throb
Maybe it was for the best
But it still hurts, deep in my chest

I don't think you understand
But you changed little innocent me
Now 2 years older, I get everything
I've learned to put up a mask and just keep pretending

I remember I cried for days
And didn't tell even my best friend for months
I learned too young to keep quiet, not to make a sound
To hide my feelings deep down

And I don't think you see
What it does to me when you divide us even farther
How it hurts when I can't tell you the full story
Because you'd just twist the knife, buried deep inside me

I became the buffer
Between two separate worlds
I was always the protector of it all,
Just because I was the oldest, I was always the wall

I hold everything in
No one knows the real me
Because you don't realize
It still hurts even though I've dried my eyes, silenced my cries
It still hurts

What is a hero?
Someone who saves the world?
You're the hero of your own story

Because you don't need to save us all
You don't need to end terrorism
You don't need to always stand so tall
You don't need to end World Hunger, or create World peace

Really, you just need to save one thing
And that's your world
Don't stop believing
That you can change the world,

But know you don't have to
You only need to save one person,
And it's okay if that one person is you
Some people say we're the water going over the rocks

That we can't make a difference
But the water will slowly change the rock
It just needs time, so give it a chance
So be your own hero, that's all the world can ask

In honor of Halloween xP

The monster isn't to blame
He's not a monster anyway
Frankenstein is named after who made him
So who's the real monster?
Maybe they're just one and the same

The Spider Queen didn't choose to rule
She was made
Because she'd make a mistake
So who's the real monster?
The creator or the accidental fool?

True, they're still not good, they've done bad stuff
But they didn't choose this
To be hated for what someone else made them
So who's the real monster?
Why not the people who make their lives so rough?

(Sorry I swore once in this poem only bc there was no other good rhyme lol)

A boy, who, at age eleven
Almost brought his own life to an end
And his mutual enemy
Was the one to save him

He's a year older now
And he's got so many stories to talk about
He thinks he has no friends
But I haven't met a person who isn't one

The fifteen year old boy
Seemingly full of joy
Planned to kill himself
And give up

But the twelve year old talked him out of it
Because he knows what it feels like to feel like s***
I don't think he realizes
That he so easily makes friends

Both thought they didn't matter
And that they could've died that way makes it even sadder
But they're not alone
They'll always have a friend

She looked around at the wreckage
At the proof of her wrath
She stood on the shore of the sea
Stepping around the debris in her path

She beheld her power
With a smile she didn't know she could possess
She held her head high
Because she was the all-powerful demoness

She brought her sword down on survivors
No mercy to be shown
She had gotten her revenge
But she wasn't content to just sit peacefully on her throne

She let the rain fall,
Dancing in it in a way only she could, joy in her eyes
The girl of storms
The daughter of the skies

We swim between the stars
No one knows what we are
Our song sound through the dark
Dragging astronauts to our trap

Their screams can't be heard
No one can hear a word
We're inescapable
We're the darkness between the stars,

But we pull men to us like a beacon
By the time they hear us they're already done
We haunt every galaxy
We are space sirens

I don't know what job I want when I'm older
I don't know where I want to live
I don't know who I'm going to be
Or what in life is going to change me

And I don't know who will stay my friends
And who I'll say goodbye to
I don't know who I'm going to love someday
I want somewhere that I love in every way

I want a place that's warm and messy
I want to go to Starbucks everyday
And grow little plants along my window
And paint things and no one will ever know

I want to draw and write
I want a thousand pillows
And shelves of books lining my wall
I don't want to choke on responsibilities at all

I just want to be free
To be able to go where I want
With a one-way ticket to anywhere
And maybe never look back there

I want to read books
When it's pouring outside
And sometimes I'll stay up all night to cry
Just because my favorite character dies

I want to wake up each morning to the sun on my face
I want to hold someone's hand
I want to take pictures of everything with beauty
I'll put them everywhere, my collection of memories

I want to stay up until the stars are out
Without having to worry about getting up in the morning
Really I just want somewhere cozy
A place all for me

So this one isn't so great but to be fair I wrote it at 11pm when I was half asleep xD

Earth's a battleground
We've got pieces of Heaven
And broken shards of hell
In every sight and sound

Our stars are a touch of Heaven
A caress of the dead lights that used to be
And fire is a beautiful gift from Hell
A burning truth of what has come to an end

But this is home
Our silver moon that moves our sea
And our planet of blue and ball of blinding light
This is our home, this is where we roam

There are storms and clear skies
The lines here are blurred
We're a place of good and bad
Of happy hellos and painful goodbyes

This is a land of truths and lies
Of people just living their lives
Some of us are little rebels following the rules
There's mischief in our eyes

This place is a field of beginnings and ends
We're the place in between two worlds
And I've never seen somewhere so perfect
This home of ours where good and bad blends

Welp by tomorrow I'll know whether we have a criminal who I don't want to be the FIRST female president bc she's terrible, or a sexist, racist billionaire who wants to build a 100ft wall. -_- Rip America 2016

This is something I had to write for school. We had to have some sort of symbol that changed what it represented by the end of the story.

The little girl held out three ribbons for her twin brother to choose from. He pointed to a red one, and she turned around to let him put it in her hair.
Jack muttered as he tied it at the end of her long blonde braid, “Up and around, make a bunny ear.” His sister, Jane, laughed cheerfully. He pulled it tight for her, and grabbed her hand as they burst out their back door. They giggled together as they raced to the woods. Jane shot her brother a grin before she put on a burst of speed. He laughed as he tried in vain to catch up. He reached out to snatch her back, only reaching the ribbon and pulling it off.
She yelped in surprise, giggling as she turned back. She reached out her hand and demanded, “Ribbon, Jack.” He just laughed as he shook his head. Jane scowled in mock annoyance right before she lunged for him.
They both toppled to the ground, tumbling over each other. They were both laughing hysterically. Jack crawled to be on top of her. He sat on her legs as he held her wrists to the ground. “I win,” he said with a triumphant grin. She threw him off her and jumped to her feet, ribbon in hand again.
“I'll race you to the treehouse!” she challenged. She sprinted into the forest, jumping over rocks and tree roots with a practiced ease. She spotted their ramshackle treehouse and its rickety ladder. She climbed up it, Jack close on her tail.
Jane reached the top, shouting, "Now, I win!"
Jack rolled his eyes, "First is the worst, second is the best," he retorted in a singsong voice. "Nuh-uh," Jane said, shaking her head. She tied her ribbon back in her hair and leaned against the thick trunk of the tree. Jack plopped down, sending the floor shaking. Jane yelped, and her brother only laughed and rolled his eyes.
“Scaredy-cat,” he teased, shoving her gently. She huffed in annoyance and walked over to their little window, looking down. “If you push me, Jack…” Jane warned him, but they both knew it was an empty threat.
“I won’t. I won’t. Have some faith in me, sis,” he joked. “What do you want to do now?” he asked. “Hide and seek?” Jane suggested. Jack shrugged, “Sure, but you’re ‘it’ first.”
“Fine,” she muttered, starting to count, “One, two, three.” Jack scurried down the ladder, running deeper into the forest.
He ran to a tree with low-hanging limbs, pulling himself up with a grunt. He moved as far up against the trunk as he could, trying to stay in its shadow. He could hear Jane shouting in the distance.
“Ready or not, here I come!” she screamed, and the sound echoed in the forest around him. He heard her crunching around in the dry fall leaves for a while, but suddenly, the noise stopped. He guessed she was going to try to sneak up on him. His heart was beating fast and he tried to quiet his breathing. He quickly looked on the other side of the tree, barely poking his head out. He expected his sister to pop out to scare him at any moment, like she usually did.
He looked again at the part of the forest he had his back to. Still nothing. It was starting to get dark, and he knew Jane would make some animalistic noise and grab at him. He leaned there in a state of ferment, waiting. After another five minutes, he jumped down from the tree with a quiet thump. He snuck back to the treehouse, trying to stay quiet and hidden.
When he got there, he climbed the ladder cautiously even though he couldn’t hear any sound coming from above him. “Jane?” he asked, beginning to get worried. “We should go home now, it’s getting dark,” he called out for her again, “Jane? Jane come out it’s not funny anymore!”
He looked around frantically. “Jane?! Jane!” he shouted as he searched her favorite hiding spots for her. He was near tears. “JANE?!!” he screamed, his voice high-pitched and cracking as he started crying. The only response was the echo of his own words. He waited for her to show up at his side and mock him for being such a cry-baby.
But she didn’t. He searched until it was pitch-black out, and decided he would return to search the treehouse one more time. He told himself she had to be there for sure.
As he approached the ladder, he saw something waving in the wind. He broke into a run, tripping over roots and snapping twigs loudly. He grabbed the string. When he held it, he realized it wasn’t just any string. It was the ribbon he’d tied into Jane’s hair that morning, now in tatters. He shook with a sob. “Jane?” he whispered. He turned around and ran back home, crying the whole way. He held the ribbon with a sense of wistfulness. All he wanted was to have his sister back. Even though he knew he was never going to see her again, some part of him hoped he would, so he kept the ribbon. He’d been looking towards the woods ever since, waiting for his twin sister to walk back out, her braid messy and a mischievous grin on her face.
