Hey just a question! We’ve had a bit of drama in my extended family and my cousin who is 40 has been admitted to hospitals with Anorexia she’s very ill. Only weighs 24 kgs. It’s tragic and she may not survive. But my mum read a book about a biography of a girl with anorexia she said it was excellent. But I can’t find it. Has anyone read a book about this subject that’s any good that I can get for my Aunty and my Mum.?Or can you recommend one you have heard of?

I am so very sorry to hear that! I will talk to my niece who also went through Anorexia then Bulimia, I do know she went to therapy and that helped a lot.

I'm sorry about your cousin, how awful! I remember seeing on tv a mom who helped both of her daughters get through anorexia and she wrote some books. Her name is Peggy Claude-Pierre. Maybe this will help? I remember she had some unconventional methods which worked.

The thing is we think, we aren’t sure she was being held captive and only when this man thought she was going to die he called the ambulance. She has no id at all and they couldn’t find any relatives. But then she remembered her brother worked in a hospital and they contacted him. But she was living with no identity.

It’s really like a book, can’t really believe it myself. He’s 75 years and she’s 40years. He’s had her for 12 years. We think. She’s a bit sketchy on details but she’s petrified of him.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts. But we are trying to find a particular book on Anorexia. As my cousin her brother is not coping at all. We thought maybe he could understand. She has 2 brothers and one is in the medical field, he’s fine but the other one. Just can’t comprehend.

Just saw this post now, I´m sorry to hear about it.This virus is a mess!!! My parents had also to go to the hospital, both on same day and different hospitals...It was a nightmare. My mother stayed in the hospital for 6 days and my father 14 days! They are both home and well now but it takes time.... Hope Grey gets better soon!

I am here! The upshot is, I am still alive and kicking. Feel free to skip this LONG post, but I wanted to update you all on what my life has been like for the past two months.

(view spoiler)[This has been an absolute nightmare. First off, I should premise this by telling you how ridiculously careful I was. We'd known from the beginning of this pandemic that if I was unlucky enough to get Covid, that things probably would go south... d/t my medical history. We hadn't been seeing anyone, or going anywhere except to work, and the kids to school...and I was fully garbed in my PPE all the time when I was working. I hadn't gotten my Covid vaccine yet, because the NP at my dr's office recommended that we wait until summer... Winters are always rough with my asthma and I have a pretty significant anaphylaxis history.

So, rewinding back to Mid-Winter break. Our family was going to be enjoying a week of no alarm clocks and just chillin', see above...not going anywhere or doing anything exciting. Well, that Monday, my youngest son spiked a fever and was c/o a horrible sore throat. Usually around this time of year, he gets strep, so I called our dr's office and they asked me if I could do a Covid test on him before bringing him in for a strep swab. (because I'm trained and do them in my office) Almost shat myself when his test popped positive, as we'd had zero cases in our school for a month. And if there was anyone who was more cloistered than me...it was my youngest. At that point, my test was negative. 36 hours later, my middle son came down with the same symptoms. 24 hours later, it was me. We later found out that my middle son had been exposed to a positive case through the wrestling program and that's how it came into our house. I am happy to report that my boys both had relatively mild cases. Fevers, headaches and sore throats that cleared up within 3 days for my youngest and 5 days for my middle.

Because I'm a health care professional, the hospital rapid tested my PCR. It came up positive immediately. My doctor called the major medical center that we deal with to see if I could get in for convalescent plasma...and I was denied because per their protocols I'm not old or fat enough. Isn't that a kick in the ass?

I have autoimmune disease and severe asthma...and things spiraled downward fairly quickly. You name the symptom and I practically had them all. On day 2, I'd popped a fever of 104.7 and my entire body hurt, it hurt even to blink. And it continued to get worse, day 5 I was so super sick, and had that feeling of doom hanging over me, I just...instinctively knew that I needed to get to the hospital, or I wasn't going to be okay.

I called my doc, she sent me to the ER and told me they'd call her when I was there. My husband drove me to the hospital and at that point, I didn't know that would be the last time I'd see him (or my kids) in person for 2 weeks. And as a sidenote, my husband never came down with Covid...my doctor is convinced that he had it before and that's what caused all of his heart issues...but I don't suppose we will ever know.

On the other side of the bed is not what it's cracked up to be. I'm a nurse, not meant to be the patient. Things happened so fast when I got to the hospital, lab work and IVs and oxygen and continuous nebulizer treatments and cardiac monitoring. The crash cart was brought in and remained in my room...

I'd made my wishes known that I absolutely did not want to be on a ventilator unless it was a last ditch effort. Asthmatics that go on the ventilator have a horrible statistics set that surround them. Luckily my doc knows me and went to bat for me with the Chief of Emergency Medicine who was my ER doctor...he was ready to tube me practically from the moment I stepped foot in the hospital (or my wheelchair wheel hit the ER to be specific).

To put it mildly, I was knocking on death's door and I was on my way out. I had a nurse with me for the first entire 12 hours I was in. And the crash cart followed me when I was admitted. There was not one normal lab value out of the multitude of tests they ran on me. It was terrifying.

I remained on high-flow nasal cannula for almost the whole 2 weeks I was there. And had more discussions about the ventilator than I care to remember. Because I had covid, I was in strict isolation. I had setbacks, but I fought. I was fighting to stay alive...and it was the hardest/worst thing I've ever gone through. I wound up with a huge hematoma on my abdomen from Lovenox that I had to be on because they were worried I threw a pulmonary embolism because of my D-Dimer. After days of poking for multiple lab draws a day and all my IV fluid, they put in a PICC line when I had no peripheral sites left. Day 5 in the hospital I had a huge setback when my lungs filled up and had the oxygen/concentrations up to the max settings.

I had covid pneumonia, superimposed over bacterial pneumonia. So I was on 3 different IV antibiotics and the Remdesivir IV for the Covid. I wanted to throw up all the time my stomach was so off because of all the medication I was on. I had a pounding headache most of the time. It was not a good time. And I was crazy petrified that I wasn't going to get see my kids and my husband in person again.

Eventually, I did improve, but failed all of my oxygen weaning trials that we've attempted, so when I finally was able to come home, I had to wear oxygen all the time...and here I am, almost a month later from my hospital release...still on home oxygen. I haven't been able to go back to work...and if anything, it has made me incredibly humble and more than a little frustrated...that this is my life for the foreseeable future.

But, I'm still here...and able to talk about it. And for a while, that wasn't a guarantee.

I wasn't able to read for much of this nightmare, between the massive headaches and just ...I don't know, I couldn't focus enough to read. I binge watched so much TV, it's ridiculous. Over the past couple weeks, I have finally begun to try and read again, but it's at a much slower pace than I used to read.

I appreciate everyone's prayers and positive thoughts. This has been a journey, to be sure. I am keeping my fingers crossed that none of you have to deal with this. (hide spoiler)]
