Nay (4ukcats) So sorry, Lisa! That all just sucks. I really hope things get better soon and that your mom is able to get in a better frame of mind. It's really tough when they don't want to fight. Praying for all of you!

And the cat will be okay. When I was younger and my Mom wanted to downsize from the house I grew up in, she and my dad/stepmother switched houses, and the new house was about 5 miles away. She took the cat to the new house, he disappeared for a week, and then he ended up showing up at the old house 5 miles away where my dad/stepmom were now living. Twice! But he eventually adjusted just fine.

Lynette Habak (lhabak) Lisa I am so so sorry to hear of this devastatingly stressful news you are experiencing😢. I hope she doesn’t give up and that it is just the pain and stress talking. Let me know if you need kitty help. Get some feliway spray or defuser and that may help with her stress level.

And if you really want to be extra amazing, let me ship my husband to you for a few days while I finish unpacking. He's housebroken!!!

I love you girl....but I do not think I can take an extra husband...especially one who sounds as picky as my own. Maybe we can all chip in and send him to a hotel for you :-) Or better yet, send you to a hotel and let him finish unpacking ....just saying!

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Thank you for all the positive words and encouragement, ladies. Yes, my cat is okay. She ate yesterday, is pigging out on treats, and she's using her litterbox. She's wandering around the new place meowing like a lunatic, beating up on doors, afraid of every noise, but she's settling in. I am obsessed with this cat. If I don't see her for an hour, I'm panicking. Like she's suddenly grown opposable thumbs and opened a door to make her great escape or something. Maybe I'm the one who needs the chill pill!!!

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments How is everyone holding up? Anyone need anything? (I truly mean that - it's not lip service. If anyone is in need and I can something to help, I will!!!) At my work, they have finally told us we can work from home (but it's not mandatory) through March 31, and longer if it's needed, so that we can all do that isolating thing. However, I absolutely HATE working from home. I have two monitors and a laptop at work, all my stuff is here, and when I'm home it's just my laptop and I'm out of sorts. Right now I've decided to continue to come into the office because there really is no one here anymore, so it's perfect for social distancing and I don't have to look at my husband 24 hours a day. I know I will be home very soon, as it will be mandatory! Anyone else out there a hypochondriac and worrier extraordinaire like me? Every throat tickle, every cough, every twinge, every extra gas bubble, and I'm convinced I have the virus. My anxiety is through the roof. I go from wanting to stay in my house and never leave again, to worrying I have symptoms, to thinking I'll never be able to find another roll of toilet paper in the wild again, to wondering if this is the collapse of society as we know it. I can't stop from watching the news non-stop and in the next breath I'm railing at the fact that the media seems to take glee in bringing us 24 hours of doom, gloom and famine, pestilence and plague. I need to get in my right brain and get a grip. Please tell me I'm not the only one!!!

Ugh I'm with you. We're "at risk" from being in Europe and I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to pick up the groceries I ordered for Monday. It's curbside so I didn't think anything of it at first, but they usually have me sign something. Even more importantly...booze!! Wonder if my liquor store will take payment over the phone then casually set the bottles outside on the sidewalk? 🤔

You're not alone. I don't think I ever realized just how paranoid I really am until recently. I went to the store over lunch for some items for work and decided to pick up some more things for home....$350 more in groceries later...after I dumped a shit ton the other night....I think I have a serious problem....let's just say...we won't go hungry...and we have LOTS of alcohol to drink....but there still wasn't any TP (I still have plenty at home though so not worried)...there was NO bread or milk and they are even rationing potato chips people...what the hell...when you have to tell people they can only buy so many bags of potato chips. I'm seriously questioning our society....

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Let's not panic me even more about a lack of alcohol. My husband bought me four bottles of amaretto (I'm an amaretto and diet coke girl) on Sunday. OMG amaretto sounds so good right now! I love it in a frozen margarita!

I could only order 60 items for grocery pickup so you know this girl got 2 Black Boxes of wine instead of 8 bottles. #maths #noshame 😆

I know what you mean about the news...when I'm home I want to watch non-stop, but then I start to worry...and I really need to have a conversation with my girls to see how they are feeling...I'm still working (here right now actually) but that may change soon, changes are daily...(view spoiler)I'm really not that important in the food chain, however, my job is client based in the office so working from home is not an option...but I'm fine with it bc everyone else is home so this is a break from that! :) lol...groceries are definitely hit and miss here as well...to get TP is purely luck if you're in a store when they put some out - limits everywhere of 1 or 2 pkgs...my priority tomorrow is getting booze ;)

I'm homebound for the foreseeable future now too, my work school shut down Monday. I have a call with the CDC tomorrow though, still keeping up with all that (even if I don't really want to...lol!) Had to take my kids to their school today to pick up work/their Chromebooks...and I basically told them to say goodbye to society, because we're not going back out. I'm in a high-risk category, I have severe asthma, high blood pressure and I have a couple of auto-immune things going on...so yeah, I'm sitting this one out. It's hard because I'm an RN, so I'm having a lot of mixed feelings about it...my heart wants me to be on the front lines helping people...but my head tells me that I need to be home where it's safe because rationally my body may not be able to fight this off.

I've been stress cleaning, my son was supposed to be having surgery on the 30th...which has been pushed back now. I'm kind of a hot mess over here.

My hubby does the shopping...so I can't even tell you the state of our grocery stores here. Again d/t my issues we're not taking any chances of me coming into contact with anything. But we're all set on TP...we always buy that stuff in bulk at BJ's anyway...I've got teenagers. *shrug*

Jean | 1658 comments Feeling the same anxiety as you all! Hang in there everyone! (I just can't watch too much of the news anymore.... it's like doom and gloom)!

Lisa, most of my office is working remotely too....but I'm going in because I'm totally set up there and it's empty! But today, my husband is actually having emergency oral surgery! Ugh!!!

Grey, you are doing the right thing by taking care of yourself. I keep thinking of all our past comments about having enough books for an apocalypse.......so I'm definitely stocked on ebooks because I'm an obsessive book buyer!!!

Robin, can't imagine what you guys are going through!

Michele, my store shelves are empty! It's freaking me out and I'm losing sleep over it and having nightmares of finding peanut butter!

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Well, to add to the fun, we are in an alert for tornadoes and hail today. Honestly, life goes on. This stuff happens every day to everybody all around. I get it. But enough already!!! I'm expecting a plague of locusts and boiling frogs dropping from the skies. I'm probably mixing my signs of apocalypse there, but you get my point, LOL I am giving in and taking an extra monitor and keyboard home with me from work today and locking myself in. I think we have enough food and necessities to get us through at least two or three weeks (if I ration the booze). I may FINALLY have to give in and eat the damn bag of lima beans that's been sitting in the freezer for several months. I am a complete hermit, yet I'm also so very used to being able to just pick up and get what I need without thinking about it. Ohhhh, want Fritos?
Just write it on the list. Out of pancake mix? Let me just run to the store. It just points out to me what a selfish and entitled society we (and I'm including myself) have become and everything we take for granted. Yet, in the next breath there is someone doing the most kind and selfless thing that brings tears to my eyes. This too shall pass, I am sure.

message 2290: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I can relate to all of you. Not much usually bothers me, but this time, I'm really, REALLY scared. I have 3 adult sons living in my house, who, of course, don't want to infect me and, of course, know this is serious, but they're not nearly diligent enough for my liking, so I'm staying far away from everyone and bathing in sanitizer. We also have sanitizer stations mounted in the kitchen and both bathrooms.

On top of that, it's major allergy time in Tennessee, so we all have the normal sinus stuff. And they vape, so anytime one of us coughs, we yell out, "Vape cough!" Or "sinus cough!" Or "random cough!"

I won't even hug hubs goodbye when he leaves for work. We had our first case in our county announced yesterday, and I just found out that it's in my small city, which only makes up about 1/20th of the county. Lovely!

I did order supplies back in mid-February though, so I'm good there. I'm not going anywhere!

Everyone stay disinfected!

message 2292: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I love the idea of calling out the name of your coughs, Nay. That's brilliant. And it keeps people from giving you death glares.

You stay safe!! There will be time for hugs and figuring out how to get all the hand sanitizer out of our systems later when this is all done with. I read a funny thing (or at least I found it funny because I'm twisted that way) that said: In the year 2030: Are you a victim of overuse of disinfectants? You may be entitled to a settlement. Call 1-800-COVIDUS to speak to our representatives.

We have quite a few cases in our county and several deaths. We just had our second case of community spread of unknown origin, so that means things go on even tighter lockdown. That was their threshold. Schools are out for a minimum of 8 weeks now, and that pretty much means the rest of the school year.

We finally got my mom out of the hospital and into an acute rehab facility. Going into the hospital to visit was a nightmare. I was terrified of bringing something in to her or taking something out with me. Of course, at the rehab facility they aren't allowing any visitors for the foreseeable future. That sucks for her, but it will allow her to focus on her rehab. It's also a really nice place with plenty of activities and good food if she's motivated to get up off her butt and get moving.

Somehow, I always seem to turn everyone's comments around to me me me. The whole point before my long-winded spiel was to say naming coughs is sheer brilliance and that you all need to take care and stay healthy!!! Wash your damn hands and do it again just to be sure!

message 2293: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Lisa--so glad you were able to get your mom settled into a nice place! Hopefully you'll be visiting her as much as you want very soon.

They just declared a "state of emergency" in our county yesterday, so the schools, which are now only closed until the end of March, will probably close for the remainder of the year. They're having a meeting right now about what's going to happen county-wide.

Our governor has only cancelled schools until April 1st so far...but with New York having the highest number of Covid cases in the United States, there is no way we'll actually go back to school on the first of April. It's heartbreaking. I already miss the students...and my own kids hate "home-school" and despise their new teacher... LOL!
