In an effort to not fill up the levels challenge thread, I thought I would post here.I'm cracking myself up cause I'm doing children's book for some of my categories. There is no way I will read a time travel story. 😒 So I remembered the Magic Tree House series I adored reading with my son.🙂
Ok, so I need help. Anyone know a good CR that takes place in Massachusetts? Also, looking for good one with politician. I've already read and loved Off the Record
that I would recommend. Note for Robin: I think this was a 3rd person one but on audio it didn't bother me.
Leslie for your Mass one what about
! I know I read one that I loved that I know has ties to Mass but not sure if the challenge requirements make it so the whole book has to take place there anyway it was

"I "think" started this one and wasn't thrilled with it. Not sure why its not marked though. But, good idea!
Jenn, the Hyde & Seek
one takes place in Massachusetts?? It sounds like a good one. Yay! I'd like to stick as close to the guidelines of challenge as I can since some of the criteria I have to "stretch" a little. So, book should have setting in MA, not just ties to it.
Leslie, I'm not into time travel either but I LOVED The Time Traveler's Wife and the audio sounds so good I'm thinking of doing that again! The one I'm struggling with is the code/treasure hunt book. I'm reading The Man in Black right now on I think it might qualify, but it would be a stretch.
Surprisingly I am struggling with finding a Texas book. Riders takes place in Texas but only a couple of chapters does that count?
Robin, no way am I reading a treasure hunt book so I'm gonna do: Pirates Past Noon
. Hee hee 😅I will see if I can find you a good Texas book.
Thanks for tip on Time Travelers Wife. Its available on Hoopla so I might use it for the challenge.
Robin, what about a book set in state you lived in? Didn't you live in Hawaii? Or even state you were born? Maybe read a book that author is from Texas?

Yes- This one Hyde and Seekfor sure does
Leslie wrote: "Robin, what about a book set in state you lived in? Didn't you live in Hawaii? Or even state you were born? Maybe read a book that author is from Texas?"IDK. I thought it had to be where you were from. But if it can be a state you lived in maybe I can drop some subliminal hints to Ms. Scott since she just got back from there! I already gave her my other parameters and was assured one would take place in the summer. She nixed my time travel suggestion tho. 😂

Found these on Listopia:
Treasure hunt book lists:
https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...
Some more treasure hunt type books on this list:

Texas-set romances:

M/M romance set in TX:

For books set in your state, if you read M/M, it appears that there's a list on listopia for each state, so just search for "M/M set in _____", and if there are any books in your state, there will be a list. (So far, every state I've tried has had a list.)Even if you don't read M/M, if you search for books in your state, or a popular city in your state, there will probably be a list for it as well.
Robin, the "official" category says: "A book that takes place in your home state" So interpret (or creatively stretch it) however you want! 😉My thought is that this challenge isnt supposed to torture us, so I'm gonna do what I gotta do to keep it fun! 🤗
Well you know what is upsetting me why do some people write such hateful reviews-This is an authors work-if you don’t like it than it wasn’t for you-don’t understand why people have to be so mean about it! You can review a book you don’t like and be respectful about it. I just had to get that out. I’m snowed in and bored and was looking at books I may or may not read and it just upset me. I literally saw one where the reader told the author to go f*ck themselves I mean really wtf is wrong with people!
Donna wrote: "Jenn, that pisses me off so bad, too! People are such assholes !"I just don’t understand it-What makes it even worse is the comments thanking the person for their honest review and how they saved them and now they are not going to read it-they comment and call it an honest review-To me it’s a version of bullying
Leslie wrote: "Also, looking for good one with politician. "First Lady
is one I recently reread. One of SEP's better books. Enjoyable and entertaining read.
For something light and quick to read, what about Campaigning for Christopher?
There are also some older school Nora Roberts books about politicians too, but can't remember which ones. The MacGregors series maybe???
Robin wrote: "Surprisingly I am struggling with finding a Texas book."I really loved Lisa Kleypas' Travis series. They were written a few years ago, but she's a fabulous writer. And those Texas men *fans self*
First one is Sugar Daddy
Slow burn, fantastic story, fantastic characters..
OMG Jenn that drives me nuts too! Bad reviews are actually really good for authors because they help determine whether or not a book is a fit for a reader. But there is no need to be an asshole!
Robin wrote: "OMG Jenn that drives me nuts too! Bad reviews are actually really good for authors because they help determine whether or not a book is a fit for a reader. But there is no need to be an asshole!"I totally get that Robin but the hate that I have come across today is just well hate-It makes me crazy in the head and admittedly kind of hurts my heart. I know not everyone is going to love every book they read-I know I don’t but telling an author to go f themselves is just simply put somebody who lacks character
No that is unacceptable! Especially since readers can sample books and return books if they don't like them! No one is forcing them to read!

I agree! SMH
Sorry, I was wrong on my last post so I deleted.. anyways, check out The Landry's, Adriana Locke...one of the brothers is a politician and I'm pretty sure they're in MA...

Jan, I thought I already read First Lady
but maybe I'm mixing it up with The Great Escape
?? (which I am positive I read)Anyway, I might give it a try as my library has audio.

First Lady is the one where the president's widow escapes her secret service minders and goes on a road trip. At the end she (view spoiler). It's a nice read. Funny too.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Jenn--I SO agree! Robin is constantly having to listen to me bitch and complain about unfair and/or hateful reviews. What also drives me absolutely batty is when someone reads a book that is clearly out of their comfort zone, and even though there are trigger warnings and the author begs the potential readers NOT to read it if they can't handle a, b, c, etc. (especially something like cheating--that's a BIGGIE), the reader STILL gives them a 1-star rating and complains about all the things that they were warned about! I see this a lot with motorcycle club romances.

I absolutely hate that! You will notice on mine a few DNF, but if it's due to a trigger, I try hard not to give a rating, because it was a trigger, or a hell no hard line, not because of the book itself.
When someone rates and rants against something that was a trigger, that's dumb. Just say you can't read it because of whatever reason, or just say issues, and go onto the next book.

I’m just seeing this thread Jenn! I agree with you that it is abusive and a form of bullying. Why is that type of “attack” needed?

I am not about Texas men at all, but I started the sample anyway and I'm intrigued! The only thing that bugs me is that it looks like a love triangle and the series title appears to give away the "winner"? I guess you're supposed to go in knowing that if that's the case.

I actually read it originally on an author rec from Maryse's blog a couple of years ago. I can't remember which author, but they listed it as a fav, dark romance maybe? I tried it and loved it.
It's much more than just a love triangle book. The plot is unexpected, complex and ultimately very satisfying. There are a few surprises in store. You have to be patient. It's definitely a slow-build book. But so worth it.

Some of you expressed interest in C.J. Martín's The Work Wife and she's about to have some ARCs up for grabs. I know Amy, Leslie, Renee, and Melinda mentioned it at some point. Are you still interested? Anyone else? She's putting together her ARC list and asked me if I had any candidates.
Melinda wrote: "You are the best Robin"Aww thanks but I'm just the messenger! 😀
If you're interested, please post your kindle addresses here (or pm me) and make sure you have "gmail addresses" on your approved senders list. Let me know if you need help.
It will appear on your kindle cover-less (she hasn't finalized the cover yet). And please please please leave an honest review. A couple sentences is all it takes! Positive, negative, or in between--it all helps!
Thanks guys! I think you're going to love Oliver! 😍😍😍
