It's C J Martín but it doesn't have a release date yet. I'll post it as soon as it does.

Nay (4ukcats) Everyone--I need help!

Does anyone here (or anyone in your family) work in the health insurance field? If so, I'm in desperate need of some guidance.

Hubs' building was sold last month, and the new owners went with a different management company, so he lost his job on 10/31. We finally got our COBRA letter on Saturday, and if we continue with our current health insurance until he finds another job, it'll cost $2,500.00 per month (NO, that is not a typo).

Even if you don't work in the field, if you've been in the same situation and had to get temporary insurance, I'd welcome any advice. There are SO many companies out there, and I don't even know where to start. I don't care if the deductibles are high, but I want hubs to have more extensive coverage and I want my 3 boys to have basic coverage. I'm covered, thank goodness.

Thanks!!!

Michele (guilliem) | 2131 comments I’m messaging you Renee

message 1424: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Thanks, Michele!

message 1425: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments IDK if this is still true or if it's something that goes by State, but when hubs switched jobs 5 years ago we had issue of 3 months no coverage. Cobra was over $2000 per month. So the HR lady at job he was leaving told me that you can backdate the cobra should you have a catastrophic event. So we did nothing for those three months. We rescheduled all doc appts, filled as many rx's as we could and just paid out of pocket for rest. It worked out and we only spent minimal amount. We didn't even get penalized on tax returns. Perhaps this will work for your family?

Ooh! *runs to amazon to go CLICK!*

Thanks Paula! I'm not starting straight away either, but I JUST GOTTA HAVE IT!

message 1428: by Niki (new)

Niki | 45 comments I one clicked so hard!! But I am waiting for Luna and the Lie.... and since they re both so long I’m holding out for Luna first! I also snoozed Chloe’s Boys of Tommen FB group so I don’t see any spoilers!

message 1429: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Yeah I'm waiting for Luna and the Lie too! And I'm hiding from Keeping 13 spoilers. I don't even want to read any reviews till i read it myself.

message 1430: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I too am waiting for Luna but not sure which one I will read first! I did read some snippets of Keeping 13 in the FB group but stopped as the date was approaching

message 1431: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Ooooh Paula, I’m in the middle of a book. But I will buy and read next. I’ve been checking and checking when it would be live.

Nay, that is terrible. So expensive. I think you should move to Australia. The majority of people in Australia don’t even have health insurance. All covered under a Medicare levy from your tax. I do have health insurance. That’s the top of the range and for the whole family. It’s like $1200 for 3 months. I only have it as the other doesn’t cover private hospitals or specialists. So it just a back up. Good luck.

Holy crap, Nay... I have no idea about about Cobra insurance companies and the like, but I am sending all my good thoughts your way, my friend! 😘

message 1433: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments I admit it. I started Keeping 13 already. I loved the first book too much to ignore the book.

message 1434: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Thanks, Grey! Leslie and Michele have given me some good advice. At least I don't have to rush for the 12/15 deadline since we're switching under special circumstances. That's kinda what was freaking me out because I was so shocked by the cost that I wasn't thinking clearly.

I have time, and any appointments we absolutely HAVE to go to can be filed again with the new insurance once I pick one. Or I can just pay out of pocket for this in between time if I choose to.

I just want to make sure hubs doesn't lose coverage for something like his cluster headaches or his back (if these are considered preexisting conditions??) Since I still have my own secondary coverage, which is now my primary, at least *I* don't have to worry about that. And let's face it--right now I'm the big money drain on this family if we don't have insurance.

message 1435: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Oh, and thx, Leslie! Your advice helps!

Tessa | 1761 comments Jean wrote: "So.....Paula must be done Keeping 13 by now! LOL!"

lol You know, that's one of the things I LOVE about this book. It's so long that I won't be done by tonight. It's gonna take time, yet it doesn't feel like it's a long book; instead, I'm engrossed and time flies with each word.

message 1440: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Nay, it was scary and I freaked over cost too. I hope you can get it worked out with minimal stress and cost. Lucky for us the HR lady knew her stuff and was able to talk me off the ledge.

message 1441: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) I've started Keeping 13 too. Couldn't wait. Very dramatic start. Eek!!

The medical insurance system in Australia is pretty darned good, I have to admit. Yeah, we do pay a levy with our taxes, but then you get free or very cheap services, for everyone. I hate to imagine what it's like without that.

message 1442: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments Jean wrote: "So.....Paula must be done Keeping 13 by now! LOL!" Lol! It is too long for me to finish in a day, but I love the way this author writes, i will be immersed in the world for a few days and I know she will put us through the mill

Jan - the first chapter sure packed a punch

Nay - sorry to hear what you are going through and I can't offer any help as in the UK it works completely differently as we have the NHS.

message 1444: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Thx again, everyone for all your support! Y'all can't imagine how much I appreciate it ALWAYS! 😘❤️️

Now I have another need for info:

Our Jack Russell got treated for heartworms over the summer and for the past few weeks, she hasn't felt well. Then she started fainting and being extremely lethargic. So we took her to the vet on Monday and they did blood work/xrays and found that the heartworms are gone and everything else looks fine, but she's badly anemic, which is what's causing her symptoms.

They put her on a multi-vitamin w/ iron and steroids, and we were supposed to take her back again this afternoon to see if her red blood cell count has gone up any, but she fainted again this morning, so we're thinking we're going to have to go to the next step, which is a transfusion. I already called an made an appt. with the local vet hospital and we're taking her there this afternoon with the intention of getting one, unless they come up with a different treatment plan, so I'm just wondering if anyone's pet has ever gotten a transfusion?

message 1445: by Michele (new)

Michele (guilliem) | 2131 comments Oh shoot Nay! I have no experience with this ...but I'll be sending positive vibes for your pup...hugs!

message 1446: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Thx! We're hoping this doctor will just be more aggressive with the meds and we can avoid the transfusion.
