Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments I just have to tell you this funny story. My daughter was telling me they were in Hawaii with her boyfriend and they were at a restaurant and ordered steak. Dan asks the waiter if he has any dead horse. Well, I laughed so much as no one in USA I’m sure no has heard of that term and they probably think he wants something to do with a dead horse. When he just wanted ketchup. Which is tomato sauce in Australia rhyming with dead horse.
Jan... I’m sure, you can relate.

message 1258: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Oh yeah Melinda. My dad always called (tomato) sauce 'dead horse'. I think it's a leftover of Cockney rhyming slang brought to Australia with the convicts.

LOL. Oh, that's a funny story.

message 1259: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments That is hilarious! My son will love that story. Not only does he love geographical trivia, but he loves ketchup! That will become new term in my house. Perhaps I can get it to "go viral" here on east coast.

At work, when people come back from holidays they say it just like Aussie.

I’ve only been to Niagara Falls so I haven’t been to enough of Canada to compare.

message 1282: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) I've never been there either Melinda, so can't say. I've met a few Canadians though. Nice, friendly people.

Jan, from what I’ve heard the scenery and the Canadians are very similar and I am yet to meet someone that doesn’t rave about how good it is.
