Remember KA's Knight? Didn't he want to be called daddy? I remember liking that book, but that bit was kinda weird.

Nay (4ukcats) Judy.Ca wrote: "Where Good Girls Go To Die (Good Girls, #1) by Holly Renee this popped up on my amazon home page...is it good? does anyone know?"

Judy--I thought it was too juvenile and didn't bring what the blurb promised. I expected it to be edgy and forbidden, but I didn't feel any of those things. And I think every. single. sex scene started the same way. It was very meh for me, and I was actually pissed that I spent my time on it after I finished it, which is why I didn't leave a review--because I was afraid I would be too mean.

Nay (4ukcats) The use of 'daddy' in Knight didn't bother me. The use of 'daddy' where I imagine a teenage girl with pigtails and huge lips sucking on a pink round lollipop bothers me!

So, those of you who Audible....is this $14.95 a month worth it? I see you get a free book each month. I know nothing about audio books - can you just use your Kindle app and buy audible books and listen that way, or do you have to have audible.com? HELP!!!

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I don't think I am going to like audio books as my mind wanders a lot when I am just listening. I have tried books on cd, and I often realize I just missed everything I heard and have to constantly go back

message 1124: by Nay (last edited May 08, 2018 05:05AM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Lisa--I'm not sure if I understand your question, but you can use Audible OR Amazon to purchase and/or download your audiobooks on your Kindle or another device, including your phone. However, I always go to my laptop first, and look at the desktop version of Audible to make sure I'm getting all the important purchase info and not just a modified 'mobile website' version. I found that sometimes I'd miss out on some of the pricing info. (you don't want to use your credit that cost you over $16, including tax, on a $9.95 audiobook).

And if you're asking, the membership is $14.95 (plus tax) per month, no matter what.

I'm going to message you some info in a sec... (it's long and I don't want to clutter the thread with my babbling! lol)

And they're right--Kooloo can give you a lot of info too. She uses Audible ALL the time.

message 1125: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Wasnt there some deal if you have KU that you get Audible romance package wicked cheap? Again ask kooloo, as she was one who told me about it. I did it free when it was a promotion but didn't stick with it. My library has a decent amount of romance audiobooks available for free (via Hoopla and I get 10 borrows a month) so I didn't want to have to pay for another service.

message 1126: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Sorry to change the topic. But I'm trying to organise my holiday among all the other things I have going on at the moment. But my question is. Is worth going to SeaWorld from Anaheim and what theme parks are the best to see in Anaheim?
Disneyland 2 days? Knotts Berry Farm? We are in Anaheim 4 days but jet lag is a killer so we may have 3 days of sight seeing? We do have SeaWorld in Australia that we have been to maybe 5 times. Is it 2 hours away from Anaheim? I'm not driving as we drive on the other side of the road and that just freaks me out, if I had to drive the other side.

message 1127: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments I don't mean to sound like a broken record here but when I tell you it took me a very long time to get used to audiobooks I am not exaggerating. I actually hated them first time I tried. I couldn't focus, I kept falling asleep etc. Then there were a couple of books that were really expensive and the only way I could get them was through the free audible trial. I still hated them but got through it. Finally I figured out that if I listened to them while doing something else (like chores) it wasnt so bad. I at least liked that I could sneak in extra reading time while cooking or cleaning. Then after like a bazillion tries, I started to actually enjoy it and became addicted to them. I think the trick is to be doing something while listening, use headphones via cell so its portable and outside noise doesnt distract you and adjust narration speed to your preference.

So.... the point of this whole long-winded thing is to keep trying the audio books until you fall in love with them. Because they are really awesome!!

message 1128: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Melinda, isnt Sea World in San Diego? That is quite a distance from Anaheim. I only say this because the one time I visited CA, I went to Anaheim for conference and then LA. We never made it to San Diego.

message 1129: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Yes, I googled it. And it says it's 2 hours. But if it's worth it, We would go. But otherwise just stay in Anaheim. I think there's plenty to do in Anaheim then we go to Hollywood.

message 1130: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments I tried once to listen to an audiobook and the persons voice was so annoying. I started reading.

message 1131: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments There def are a few narrators that make the audiobooks intolerable. There is one male narrator I can't tolerate, I forgot his name...but I need to look it up and remember to never do any of his books anymore. But for the most part, I love the narrator's voices and it works out great.

message 1132: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Melinda, big fat duh to me! I was thinking Anaheim was NORTH of LA and further from San Diego. Silly me, I need more coffee and geography lesson. Hee hee. Anyway, I hope you have a great trip.

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Paula, are you excited about the Royal Wedding? What is the feeling there? I wish I was there just to feel the atmosphere.

message 1134: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I will watch it on TV and I know some areas are having street parties. I work in the City and not much different here atmosphere wise - it may be different in Windsor as I have seen people are already camping out to catch a glimpse! I think we are all a bit jaded in the UK about Royal weddings - the most common question when the announcement was made was 'do we get an extra day's holiday!'.

message 1135: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments I was wondering the same thing. They are even televising it on 3 free to air channels. And the gossip is huge around poor Meaghan. We have even recorded it from 2 channels so we can see which is best to watch.

message 1136: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Speaking of the gossip, I am so over the paparazzi being up in people's business. I can understand reporting big events in famous people's lives, but it's gotten so out of hand.

The book I'm reading right now My Soul to Keep My Soul to Keep (Soul, #1) by Kennedy Ryan is reminding me about how they hound people and report whatever they feel like just from getting a glimpse of someone with a certain person or doing a certain thing. I was getting pissed off yesterday simply reading about this fictional heroine having her life ruined by the press.

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Nay, I don't know if you hear all the crap this poor girl is going through. She has a horrible step sister who is saying the worse things about her because she isn't invited to the wedding. I've been really busy and none of the books are really good and grabbing me. So I think it's taken me a whole week to read one book.

We're hearing it ALL here too--constantly! About her sister, about her dad. How much plastic surgery has she had? Who's in the wedding? Who's NOT in the wedding? I don't even seek it out, but there's no escaping it because they're picking every little aspect of her life apart.

Paula--I like it. It's well written and a solid 4-star read for me. If I had read it back in 2015, it probably would've been 4-1/2 or 5. I definitely like it well enough to move on to the next book.

The reason I'm reading the 3 books of this series is so that I can read the spinoffs, Grip and Flow, Grip (Grip, #1) by Kennedy Ryan Flow (Grip, #0.5) by Kennedy Ryan and be familiar with all the characters. (Grip is a rapper who's the best friend of the hero in My Soul to Keep. And I'm pretty sure that Grip's heroine is also a character in it, but I don't want to read ahead in the blurbs and ruin it for myself.)

My Soul to Keep is much more character driven than plot driven. Besides speaking of his coming singing engagements and his fame (that's where the annoying paps come in), it hasn't really delved into the 'rock star life'. It's actually more about his broken family life and also the changes in the heroine's life and how she'll deal with dating him while trying to break into dancing and possibly singing professionally herself without his influence.

I'm hoping book 2 and or 3 will deal with him being on the road and getting into the angsty rock star stuff because I'm at the end of book 1 and a tour is being spoken of.

message 1142: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments Sounds like my type of thing and I have Grip and Flow on my TBR. Just need to finish 2 betas, 2 ARCs, my challenge books then I think I may move on to these!

Nay (4ukcats) Paula wrote: "Sounds like my type of thing and I have Grip and Flow on my TBR. Just need to finish 2 betas, 2 ARCs, my challenge books then I think I may move on to these!"

Paula--this first book wasn't nearly as angsty, 'hard-core rock star life' as Of Love and Madness (I think those have spoiled me, and I wish I could find more like them). But it was just as well written, and lately, finding a well-written book is half the battle.

It actually has a similar feel to many of the other new adult rock star books out there with the alternating POV, but the plot was unique enough that it held my interest. I would have been happier to hear less of the hero's voice (certain things he thought got on my nerves)--a little mystery probably would have made it a 5-star read for me.

Now I'm starting #2, and I do think it's going to have more angst. I'll keep you posted!

message 1144: by Nay (last edited May 25, 2018 03:02PM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Help! I need a really good chew your guts and spit them out angsty book! Preferably one with either a love triangle or a busted up marriage. And just the heroine's pov would be a bonus, but I know those are harder to find these days.

I'm worried that I'm heading toward another slump, so I need to find something really great!

Thanks in advance!!! 😘

message 1147: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Judy—yes! Was wondering a couple of days ago what happened to you. Hope you had fun on your vacation!

Leslie—Cruel and Beautiful is a definite possibility, and I see that Paula gave it 5 stars, which I don’t see her do an awful lot. Will put that on my short list. Thx for the suggestions! I started on Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men, #1) by Giana Darling . I’ll see where that takes me. But I’d still like more suggestions if anyone has them.
