I'm tired and grumpy...so can we talk worst books of the year?

Thoughtless. I still resent this.

Hookup. Boring and did not really have anything to do with the blurb.

Bad Romeo. That heroine....I just.....

Rush. So much hype, but all surface and no heart.

message 705: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Kooloo's ok--just really busy.

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Ooooo...a chance for me to get my snarkiness on!!!

Here's some of my craptastic choices:

Impossible Views of the World by Lucy Ives – A pretentious load of crap. Did I mention pretentious?

From Rags by Suzanne Wright – only made it to 28% and could not go on

How to Ride A Cowboy by Who Really Cares??? - Awful writing, just awful

Scandalous Beat by Michelle Mankin – Storyline had potential, and I held out to 43%, but never connected with the characters or the story

The Silver Swan by Amo Jones – Ughhh, ever hear of editing?

Buttons & Lace by Penelope Sky – Ohhh, how I wanted to love it. The blurb, gahhhh. It was soooo, Me! Sadly it was like the author was just checking boxes to make sure she got all the parts of this genre of book included.

And Thoughtless...I actually ended up rating the book well overall, but I have NEVER hated a heroine as much as I hated Keira. And Kellan....don't even!!!

message 707: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments My turn. Worst of the year:

The Outskirts and The Outliers.....so disappointing. The editing issues with Outliers was unbelievable and almost a DNF for me.

Archie of Outlandish.....ugh....dnf!

Sweet Venom by Kristy-Anne Still......Editing again. So bad!

*naughty cackle*

OMG... Thank Christ someone else mentioned the editing issues of The Silver Swan, I really REALLY wanted to love that one.

message 709: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments Worse:
Erected by Desiree Holt. This was just disturbing. A supposed romantic HEA erotica that the dude was CREEPY and literally, while she's asleep, molests her and brings her to orgasm to "relax her". 0.0 WTF And it's done with her saying, from the beginning, he should go home. Dude was a psycho.

Sinister Kisses by Adriana Noir - Second half of the book starts with him having killed his beloved kid nephew. Automatically irredeemable.

Silver Swan, the story was so much my catnip that I still liked it anyway, but the editing! GAH. The girl was bipolar as a result of it.

message 710: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments I am out doing errands right now. I will def list my 2017 disappointments when I get home later and have my peanut deflecting shield ready.

Who are you and what have you done with MY Lisa????

From Rags...Really?????

message 712: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Which Silver Swan are we talking about???

How to Ride a Cowboy.........cackles!!!!!!! That was pretty bad...

Tessa | 1761 comments Ela wrote: "Which Silver Swan are we talking about???

By Amo Jones. The editing was so bad that the character's personality kept changing. The story at its heart was pure catnip so the lack of editing really was a disappointment. I felt like we read the first draft.

message 714: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Oh! I haven't read that yet...hope the editing gets corrected!

I'm literally LOL right now. Oh girls, we're so bad. There was another one that just irritated the shit out of me. Roomie Wars. RME.... and High-five, Ela, Hausfrau was another one, that just didn't work for me.

message 718: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I really enjoyed Hausfrau! It was definitely disturbing, but it was so well written!

I'm sure I have a list of shitty ones though, based on editing alone. And I'm afraid y'all are going to kick me out for one of them...

message 719: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I will love you no matter what, Nay - heck, I still love bev and she didn't like Rush (giving a side-eye to bev again).

message 720: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Lisa! You better NOT not like KA....

message 721: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) If Lisa doesn't care for this KA, she needs to read either Sweet Dreams (that's the one I started with--skipped right over The Gamble to get straight to Tate Jackson!!) Or For You (and then she can get to Joe in At Peace!)

Ohhhh, I miss my first K.A. book experiences....

message 722: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments See, that's the thing Renee! Lisa already posted that the writing is different and she finds herself re-reading to understand.

message 723: by [deleted user] (new)

My first KA was At Peace. Joe and Vi aka Buddy, lol.
And now I have become bored when I read her books. It makes me sad.

Lisa, I really thought I had a gem tucked away for a rainy day with Rush based on all the opinions. So it was an extra let down.

Nay, Come on and spill.

Nay (4ukcats) Ela wrote: "See, that's the thing Renee! Lisa already posted that the writing is different and she finds herself re-reading to understand."

Noooooooo!!! You can't, Lisa! You MUST understand!!!

message 725: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Ela wrote: "Lisa! You better NOT not like KA...."

I can tell you I don't like the way she writes. It's all jumbly. Like I know all the words, but they shouldn't be put together THAT way.
But so far the story itself is good :) Only at 9% though. I sense a lot of angst coming my way!

Yes! I loved At peace as well, but now find myself bored with the latest KAs :( I've stalled part way through The Time In Between, Complicated and The Hookup. Bored. I'll try them all again but suspect they'll probably all be dnf's. And the honey series? I can't even. I'm so saaaaadd. I used to eagerly await each new KA, but now :(

message 727: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) I'm not a bad person, but

I dnf'ed Rush as well. And Dear Aaron. And Thoughtless. And Forget. Act Like It. Bombshell. The Hot Shot. Twist (Dive Bar). Silver Silence. I've gone right off the psy-changeling series I used to LOVE :(

Oops. I see I HAVE actually marked The Time In between as dnf.

Believe it or not, I did LOVE lots of books this year. (and they weren't all HRs LOL). Maybe I've just got a pretty low boredom threshold?

YOU MUST LEARN TO LIKE HER WRITING...PLEASE

message 729: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments Did you all consider that the reason you are growing bored of KA is you've read more books and many people imitate her formula? After all the same thing, it gets boring. KA was new and different when you read her in the beginning. Now, Amazon is flooded with the same thing by many different authors.

To come in now, it's under higher scrutiny and just doesn't stand up.

message 730: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) You might have something there Tessa. I also don't like the more explicit sex scenes in recent KAs. Not cos I'm a prude, but somehow they just seem a bit grubbier. Sometimes less is more and I liked her old style of writing sex scenes better than in her newer books. Did anyone else notice that?

message 731: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Sorry but nope Jan...I always liked her roughed up quick sex scenes...because they really are not that long.

message 732: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Yeah I mean I did like the sex scenes in her older books but not so much in the new ones. Yeah they're quick but somehow not as sexy to me in the newer books.

message 733: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments My biggest dissapointment for the year was CoHos Without Merit. Ugh! This was so awful I couldnt finish it. The teaser made it seem like a forbidden romance between the h and her identical twin boyfriend. It wasn't! It wasnt even a romance. It was over the top, insane, made no sense, family drama. Pleh!! 😝

I love the word grubbier!

message 735: by Nay (last edited Dec 28, 2017 05:34PM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) There will never, ever be another alpha male like Tate Jackson. And her 'Burg' series can't be topped.

Y'all! Don't you remember when they were 600 pages long and you WANTED them to be that way. When you used to wonder how many different people in one town could be stalked/kidnapped/in trouble with the law? And the way Cal and Vi burned up the pages? The Rock Chicks and their Hot Bunch?

I want those books back!

message 736: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Me too Renee.

message 737: by [deleted user] (new)

Way more sex scenes and start skimming those too.
For me her plotting needs to change. She needs to axd some tension back in and let us see the H and h not just tell us about them.
Did you all read Maryse's review of the Hookup? She hit on some reasons why it didnt work for her that i think are true.

Bwahahhaha, OMG, if anyone ever took THESE comments out of context, I'm dying! hahahah!

message 739: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I tried to listen to Complicated while I was going to cardiac rehab, and I couldn't even make it halfway in.

I can't wait until February when the new Chaos book comes out. Too bad it's a novella, although Amazon says the pb has 200 pages, which isn't terrible. Do you know it's been over 2 years since a Chaos book was released?

message 740: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) bev-- I saw her review. I wouldn't even fool with finishing The Hookup at this point, but I want to know the characters for the next book. Maybe something about it will grab hold of me and I'll enjoy it more than you and Maryse did (I hope). I have a feeling that Maryse was being generous with her review.

message 741: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 28, 2017 06:32PM) (new)

See Nay? Again i am tempted because it is Rosalie and i thought Shy and Tab treated her badly.

But.

message 742: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I see that Ella gave The Hookup 5 stars, so NOW I'm hopeful! I'm going to read this little Erica Lynn 'fairy tale' and then I'll pick The Hookup back up.
