I'm asking for someone else. Below is their description. They don't remember anything else about it.

I read a fiction book years ago about aliens. They were either called Mec/Mecc or Olmec. They stopped aging at 12, & only started when they met their soulmate (A character was virtually immortal because his soulmate died before he met them)
