i read this book around 98-03. its about a roman legion abducted by aliens to fight in low-tech wars around the galaxy. the soldiers are healed of their wounds after the battles,only brain and spinal injuries are fatal. they end up taking over the ship and return to earth,only to find out it is 2000 years later.

There is no way that isn't Ranks of Bronze part of the Earth Legions series. Be sure to read The Excalibur Alternative it's written by a different author but I liked it even more.
