CITATIONS - HOW TO

This thread is designed to help group members participating in the Washington - A Life discussion (specifically with citations and when they are required within the discussion and when are they not)

Outside a formal book discussion like Washington - A Life, citations are required for all authors and all books mentioned on all threads.

However, within a discussion like Washington - A Life- this is the citation criteria for all of the Washington - A Life threads:

All, we do not have to do citations regarding the book or the author being discussed during the book discussion on the Spotlight discussion threads - nor do we have to cite any personage in the book being discussed while on the discussion threads related to this book (Washington - A Life).

However if we discuss folks outside the scope of the book (Washington - A Life) or another book is cited which is not the book and author discussed - then we do have to do that citation according to our citation rules. That makes it easier to not disrupt the discussion. Thank you.

We are talking about the Washington - A Life threads.

As an example a full citation looks like the one below:

"book cover first, author's photo second and author's link third"

Here is the example:

Note: In the above citation, if the author's photo is not available. We simply add (no photo) at the end.

For the Washington - A Life discussion threads only and/or formal group discussions (those discussions with weekly non spoiler threads) - this is the criteria:

Be mindful that the citation rule is in full force outside of the Washington - A Life threads.

If you cite an author or a book that is not found in the Washington - A Life book and you do this on a Washington - A Life thread - you must do a proper citation like the one below:

All personages mentioned in Washington - A Life specifically on its pages do not have to be cited even if these folks are authors. This rule is only in effect on the Washington - A Life threads during a formal discussion.

Outside of the formal Washington - A Life threads and outside of a formal scheduled group book discussion, these personages (if they are also authors) must be cited.

But not for the Washington - A Life discussion threads.
