One thing that bothered me is we'd been given no clues that Sir Ian would be likely involved with a rent boy. Did I miss something?

I didn't see a hint of the rent boy, however I had the feeling that the disappearance was linked to Edith and her father's relationship. I had guessed that some incest/grooming/inappropriateness would be revealed and Edith had ran after that rather than deal with having to tell her mother.

Could not tell whether Sir Ian's criticisms of Manon & the investigation were sincere, but as it turned out, apparently they were. He really didn't know what had become of his daughter or that her disappearance was related to his actions. I believe that the plot of this book is excellent but that @ the level of characterisation & motivation it's not up to standard.

Clare (clarebears) | 61 comments I read a lot of police procedural books, I don't think anyone could of seen the Tyler Dent plot coming. However I don't understand why Edith travelled to France illegally when she had found £30,000 at her parents home. I think that was a bit improbable. The best part was Manon was reunited with her sister and fostering Fly.

Yes I liked the personal side plot in this book as well. I didn't quite get the subterfuge she engaged in to travel when she had the cash, but I guess she was quite young and immature.

I just found it a little hard at times like it was stuck for what to do so lets pad it with what Davy's thinking and Miriam's thinking etc.

I also like Bill was gobsmacked th..."

Agree that Davy seemed rather naive considering his time on the force & @ 39 Manon struck me as emotionally immature.

Emma | 112 comments I liked the police procedural side of this story and I liked the relationship Manon had with fly but didn't like the chapters about her relationships. I was surprised also surprised with Ian being involved with the rent boy, and like Bill said there were no hints or clues.

Kim | 42 comments I liked the same as most of you. Manon's relationships were ridiculous. For a police officer and knowing what's out there, to be sleeping with total strangers was improbable. The relationship went so fast with the dog walker that i felt I missed whole chapters. One minute she meets him and the next she's madly in love.
Some parts were funny - when she was in the hospital talking of a forehead tattoo and I liked the authors descriptions of grief.
