Lynn L | 152 comments There are times when I felt like Huck viewed Jim as an equal. But I think Huck viewed Jim as a person not like himself on many occasions too.

John Seymour I think it is complex. If you asked Huck if Jim was his equal, he would probably scoff at you. But in his heart, driving the way he acts, he knows Jim is his equal, if not his better.

I think the relationship develops as they are on the river. It probably starts out with Huck thinking they are less than equals and coming closer and closer to equals.
