River representing that things change and are never really the same over time.

The river is a lot of things, it represents danger (floods) rafts, and escape but a strange escape because they go deeper into slave territory. It's on the river that Huck (white boy) can get to know Jim, a black man. Its also a quest for Huck who grows in maturity and understanding.
