I recently read The Kite Runner after keeping it in my to-read list for a long time - and boy was it amazing! Looking forward to reading this one.
This is simply amazing... The way it begins, with story of Baba Ayub... The way it cuts across generations, and each character in the story has a story of his own... This is marvellous.... Its not just one or two protagonists evolving all over the length of the novel, but many characters find importance, even small appearing ones as the little girl who later writes a book, or Parwana, or Iqbal or Iqbal's son....Simply touched. no words. Hats off to Khaled Hosseini... He always connects.
Read ATME last year and loved it very much!
I still remember a quote from The story of Baba Ayub :
Something like - Good and bad are just different shades of the same colour....
But it was written in a eloquent manner.

I didn't like it as much as The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Maybe after reading the above two books I had set very high expectations.
The Kite Runner is my favourite book till date. I have bought both A Thousand Splendid Suns and And the Mountains echoed, but I am yet to read them.
I chose this book after reading Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns. I need to say "And the Mountains Echoed" is not what I expected to be when it comes to story and the characterization. There was too much of drama and unnecessary additions of characters which was dragging the essence of the story.
I can say "And the Mountains Echoed" is a good book. But not the best of Khaled Hosseini's books. Those who have not read his other two books may find this book impressive. And for those who have read Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns may get disappointed . Not a bad read for the month.
I have already read this book - I love all Khaled's books. He seems to always pull on your heartstrings with his bitter-sweet themes of separation or poverty or a loveless relationship. My favourite is the Kite Runner but each book has something that seems to resonate with me.
Good to know that you liked it,Frances.
Arpit, yes this turned out to be something akin to aan obituary to the book. :P

Excited.
After reading all the comments, I have realized that my expectations are also quite high as I have read Hosseni's other two. I liked both of them. I am in dilema whether to start it or not. Infact I am currently engaged with "The Book Thief".

Hopefully all would come to make some sense at the end. Fingers crossed :)
I like this book because it tells the tale of a family not just a member but a whole family , Afgan family structure is somewhat similar to Indian family structure , so Indian reader would relate to it more , same was my case .. I read it when i was in Delhi , away from my family so it was like a escape to another reality where i can make my self present by the help of Khalid's writing . 2 things happened after i read this novel.
Instant urge to contact not only my parents but my uncles , cousins etc :D.
Instant urge to relocate in 80s Afganistan .
I hope you all find this novel equally interesting .

This book is chosen as our October Book Of The Month,
I have already read it... and liked it too. though a tad less than A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner.
But Hosseini fans should definitely read it.
BLURB
An unforgettable novel about finding a lost piece of yourself in someone else.
Khaled Hosseini, the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations.
In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most.
Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe—from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos—the story expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.
404 pages, published in 2013.
