Grace (gracereadssmut) So I am re-reading the books again because I just can't help myself and ever time I do I have more questions.

Here's one: In the Summer Garden, Tatiana always mentions how Alexander never kisses her in public, but then they attend that wedding and its a huge deal that they did when they were dancing to their anniversary song.

Do you think that Alexander does not do public displays of affection because it's set in the 50s and society didn't do that a lot or because of his PTSD from the war or because of the way their relation started in the Bronze Horseman as a secret from Dasha and Dimitri, so they are so used to never showing affection in public?

PS: Hopefully this group can be revived again :D

Tennille - Aussie Chick Knows Books | 56 comments I think maybe a combination of all of those things

Nicole (nicole_the_bibliophile) | 32 comments I think it's just his personality. My husband is the same way.

Tennille - Aussie Chick Knows Books | 56 comments im not surw on the personality thing because he did PDA with other girls at clubs in the early days

message 5: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) I think it's his personality too. Maybe he just does not want to share her or likes things like that to be private.

This was just a thought\ question that popped into my head. I always have so many when I re-read.

Sometimes I do "what ifs" in my head..... like what if Dasha had lived or they just tell her the truth or if Dimitri died early on.

Tennille - Aussie Chick Knows Books | 56 comments yesh that sounds right. he cares this time and doesnt want to share her and her reactions. he didn't care about the other girls

message 7: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) It's crazy that he had like millions of girls and Dasha, her sister, and the only person Tatiana was with her whole life was him.

Nicole (nicole_the_bibliophile) | 32 comments He has communion with Tatiana. He wants everything in their relationship to be between the two of them and God...he doesn't want to share what they have with anyone. He doesn't want people to see the very close bond that they share because it is sacred to him. The girls he was with before didn't mean a thing to him. My husband is exactly like Shura in this.

Grace (gracereadssmut) Yea, really sweet actually. but then he goes and his the tiniest little blip of an affair lol!! I really wish we saw more of the times after that. The book fast forward a lot after that incident.

Nicole (nicole_the_bibliophile) | 32 comments UGH! I know. But one of my favorite things about this story is that the characters are flawed. They feel real...they are human and make mistakes just like the rest of us. I wish we got more after that too. That's my only complaint. I want all of those missing years! LOL!

message 11: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) I want all the missing years to the entire story haha!

It also bothers me that it look them over 10 years to other children..ugh!

Grace (gracereadssmut) PS: please don't mind my typos..I'm on mobile at the moment..sorry!

Nicole (nicole_the_bibliophile) | 32 comments LOL. no worries! I knew what you meant. ;)

message 14: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) I haven't! I have heard it has an alternative ending!!

message 15: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) These reasons all make sense, I guess i was just wondering if there was an explanation I missed in the. looks, but I guess there is not.

I know that people interpret things differently, that's why I love discussing the books... others may have different views.

Sara (skw99) | 42 comments I'm very late to this discussion but of course want to add my two cents. I agree with the idea of Shura wanting to keep those aspects of their relationship private because he does see it as a sacred thing. Then I'm intrigued (or confused) by the way he sometimes uses sex to "punish" Tania. I think it might have been the scene right before Tania was going to the bachlorette party. He purposely blocks her way to move off the bed and continues on with sex that was really rough. Or at least that is how I interpreted it. Didn't sound like that was good whimpering she was doing. I also have a delicate question about that scene and what was actually taking place. Anyone else have an idea what I mean?

message 17: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) I don't know if it's punishment, but I think that sex is dynamic in their relationship.
In the beginning of The Summer Garden, he did something to similar to what you are taking about when Tatiana was not "touching" him and hurt his feelings because she was sad about the way his body looked all war torn.

I'm not sure though, even when Alexander "cheats" on her they resolve their issues with sex. So, maybe it's not what we think it is... or maybe it is and Tatiana just doesn't care?

Maybe someone else has a better answer.

Grace (gracereadssmut) Finally finished this latest re-read!

Does anyone else wish that they would have returned to Russia for their 50th anniversary when their kids bought them tickets?

Why do you think Tatiana likes to hide in the shadows and watch her family go through old home movies, but Alexander does not?

Does the book Tatiana's Table have scenes from the missing years of the Summer Garden. It so annoys me that it skips decades... especially at the very end. She gives birth to Pasha, then Ant is Vietnam, and they it's 1985, and it's 1999. I wish we could've gotten to know their three younger children more.

Milena (love_tea78) | 158 comments I understood why they did not want to go back to Russia, there was too much heartbreak, ghosts and bad memories. They made new life in America and there was no point looking back

message 20: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) Yes I know, I just kind of wish they would have went anyways haha!

message 21: by Sara (new)

Sara (skw99) | 42 comments going back to Russia could be a whole new book! They could go back to visit and have memories come forth that we haven't heard yet! I would looovvee more T&A!!!

OMG yes!!!

message 23: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracereadssmut) Hi guys! I was wondering if there are still places where you can buy the first version of Tatiana and Alexander that has all those extra pages?

message 24: by Sara (new)

Sara (skw99) | 42 comments Grace, I got mine through ebay. Somewhere in TBH boards is a post telling what to look for so that you get the right one. I think mine came from the UK. It was used but I didn't care.

Yea, I found it and I ordered it off Amazon. Its used...should be coming soon. I got Tatiana's Table too! very excited :)

Sandy | 5 comments Jumping on board here! Even when Alexander and Tatiana got married he lied to the witnesses at their wedding and when Tatiana asked why he told her that he didn’t want to give a drop of them away to anyone. He was always very careful to kiss her or show any affection in front of anyone. Even the scene in the summer garden where she is working at the winery serving drinks and she leans up to give him a kiss but he refuses as there were men around watching her. I love that about him.

Further, in the summer garden when Anthony goes missing in Vietnam, it mentions how Tatiana and Alexander built a fortress around themselves where the moat was wide and gates were shut, and there was no entry for anyone but them. They had a sacred union and kept others out.
