Bam cooks the books (bamcooks) Reading for week 49: a book with a great opening line. "So here I am, upside down in a woman." The narrator is a fetus and the story is a take off on Hamlet. The fetus is aware that his mother and uncle are planning to kill his father.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I just stumbled on this book while browsing the GR Awards nominee for my 2017 and I read your review. I don't know why, but I'm really hesitant to add it to my TBR, what do you think?

Well, I really enjoyed it but then I'm a fan of quirky books.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Ok, I love quirky books too, so in my TBR it goes ;)

Cheri (jovali2) | 542 comments I read this for topic 1 of 2017, a book from the Goodreads Choice Awards. I loved it! One review said the fetus, who narrates the book, is a cross between Hamlet and Stewie (of the TV show Family Guy). Very clever and funny and literate. I recommended it to my book club and we had so much fun discussing it.

Celia (cinbread19) | 354 comments I read this for 2019, Topic 5 Inspired by Shakespeare. Inspiration was Hamlet.
McEwen has really offered a unique story: a fetus listens and reflects as his mother and uncle plot to kill his father.

Glad you enjoyed it, Celia.
