We’re welcoming Heartwarming author Sophia Sasson today. I had the privilege of reading her first book for Harlequin Heartwarming, First Comes Marriage, and enjoyed it immensely. So without further delay, let’s find out about her new release for Harlequin Heartwarming, The Senator’s Daughter.

Tell us a little about yourself and why you started writing for Heartwarming.

I am a health scientist by day and have a full time job that pays the bills. Writing is my escape and my passion. I’ve been writing stories for years but because I had a daytime job, I never considered publishing. It’s something I did just for myself. But as with every job, there comes a time when you realize you’re not doing what you love and when I considered what I love; it’s writing. So I entered the “write from the heart” contest that Harlequin Heartwarming did a few years ago and won. The book from that contest, First Comes Marriage, came out in February. Shortly after, Harlequin signed a three book contract with me.

What inspired the Senator’s Daughter.

I have lived in the Washington DC metro area for twenty years but I travel a lot for fun and for my day job. So, one thing that annoys me about our local news is how focused it is on national politics. I guess it goes with living in the nation’s capital. I love traveling and turning on the news to hear about things that happened at the county fair and what the boy scout troupe is up to. Around election time, while the rest of the country is inundated with yard signs and robo calls, DC is not really different from the day to day. I think Washingtonians grow weary of politics.

So I thought it would be fun to write an election themed book for the October release. Something heartwarming during this election season to give everyone a break from the media barrage that happens around this time.

The book centers around a media shy college professor who gets thrown in the limelight when CNN announces she is the secret daughter of the Virginia senator fighting for his Senate seat. Kat Driscoll is forced to contend with the suave and savvy Alex Santiago, the Senator’s chief of staff and her new handler.

Tell us about your favorite character?

It’s easy to tell you more about the hero or heroine who I love dearly but there is a character who I wish I could’ve shared more of with the readers. That’s Alex’s mother, Mrs. Santiago. She’s an immigrant from Central America who like many came to the U.S. in search of a better life but was confronted with an abusive husband. Making some tough choices, she did what she had to to protect her son and in doing so, shaped him to be a man who stands up for what’s right, even if that means giving up something he’s worked for his entire life.

What other books do you have?

I have a free ebook on my website called Then Comes Love which is actually a prequel to First Comes Marriage. I also have Mending the Doctor’s Heart coming out January 2017 from Heartwarming and a fabulous thanksgiving anthology with twelve other talented authors coming soon.
