I was warned by the friend who lent me this book that is was sad and that I was probably going to cry. And still, I wasn't quite prepared for it. Five pages from the end, I was like "okay, this is sad, but I'm not crying yet." One page later I was sobbing.
I can't really write a sensible review of it. The synopsis at the same time says everything - the story of a human family told by a dog - and nothing at all. Because just that would probably be more amusing than anything else, but the family's story in itself is so touching and heartwrenching, you almost forget the narrator is a dog sometimes. But you also never forget it.
Okay I'm probably not making any sense, but I loved this book!
One last thing: you probably don't need to be a fan of car-racing to enjoy this book, but I've been a fan of F1 for nearly two decades, and I have to say I think it helps a lot. I could understand everything, the outright references to drivers, but also the feelings that Enzo talked about. I was super interested when Denny talked about his experience as a driver, because I wondered if that was also what the F1 drivers I'm following also think. It made the book even more personal.
