The author describes Nebraska to be more of a frontier outside of Omaha and its environs. What impressions did you have about attitudes regarding law enforcement and community? How close to the truth do you think this actually may be?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I can understand the frontier description. I've driven through Nebraska. Outside of Omaha and Lincoln, I just saw very very small towns linked together by the highway.

I have no idea what their attitudes are regarding law enforcement. There may be a general "we don't like outsiders" attitude, but its probably no different than other small towns.

I think she probably characterized it correctly. They're on the fringe of typical societies and rely on themselves to take care of community needs.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I was certainly dumbfounded about what little (NO) requirements had to be met to be the coroner!

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments It's like that where I live Charlene. The coroner is an elected official that doesn't have to have any medical background. They do have to take a training course. I don't know if it is pass/fail or if it is just hours of training. Of course, they're not doing any autopsies like a medical examiner.

Yeah, that surprised me, too.
