Ok, I'm on chapter 3, and I already hate Jack, think his wife is an idiot, and am reminded why I don't read Stephen King novels. I promised myself I would give this one a chance, so I'm going to keep going...

How's everyone else doing?

Ok, I have finished chapter 15. I still hate Jack, and am not a fan of Wendy. I now understand what the book is called The Shining. The book is starting to pick up and get a bit creepy.

So here's a question, would you spend a winter in a hotel alone with your family knowing that most hotels do have a reputation?

I think I might have stayed alone in a hotel over winter before reading this book, but probably not now. I did have a thing about walking past red cars after I read Christine as a teenager. I am definitely starting to think it might not be the book to read at bedtime now that it's getting more sinister.

I just finished chapter 15 and I'm enjoying it so far. I don't find Jack or Wendy to be at all likable either. Regardless of reputation, I would never spend the winter trapped alone in a hotel with my small children, that would be enough to drive someone mad.

I just finished chapter 15 and I completely agree. I hate Jack and his wife is boring. The cook was actually interesting. We'll see how it keeps going.
