I don't know his reasoning for doing it, unless he thought Kiz would be blamed for the leak. I'm guessing he didn't want her as a partner. Maybe he didn't like working with a woman. He was fired as an RHD Detective. I thought that was appropriate.
I think he should have been busted of whatever rank he had and be put on suspension [without pay, if possible]. His being the source that led to tragedy was inexcusable.
Thornton's dismissal was the appropriate response by the department and I was glad that the Chief didn't try to cover it up like he has other things.As to Thornton's motivation, I didn't get see it as an attempt to undermine Kiz or a dislike of having her as a partner. To me, he wanted to impress the reporter (who just happened to be a woman...)
Boy, this was absolutely stupid and self serving. If Trent had a family to look out for him, Thornton would be looking at a manslaughter charge.
Why you'd do this to a partner, someone you have to entrust with your life, is beyond me.
